Prayagraj District Sports Meet: DM Urges Schools to Encourage Children in Sports
Around 700 young athletes from 24 blocks participate in two-day event at Madan Mohan Malviya Stadium; cultural competitions to conclude the programme on September 24
PRAYAGRAJ: Around 700 young athletes representing 24 development blocks of Prayagraj took part in the district-level sports competition held at Madan Mohan Malviya Stadium on Wednesday, with District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma calling for greater opportunities for children to participate in sporting activities.
The two-day event, organised to promote sports among schoolchildren, also featured a human rangoli competition.
The programme will conclude on September 24 with cultural competitions.
Addressing the gathering, the District Magistrate said sporting activities should not remain limited to urban centres and stressed the need to encourage children in rural areas to take an active interest in sports.
He also urged schools to ensure that available sports equipment and facilities are accessible to students rather than remaining unused.
According to the District Magistrate, participation in sports can contribute to children’s overall development alongside formal education.
Team games, in particular, teach youngsters how to work collectively, share responsibility and pursue a common objective through coordinated effort.
He also emphasised that sports can influence children’s behaviour and help develop qualities such as cooperation, discipline and a sense of collective responsibility.
Sanjay Gupta, the city’s metropolitan president and a special guest at the event, also underlined the importance of combining academic education with physical activities.
Referring to the traditional emphasis on physical well-being, he said maintaining physical fitness is closely linked with the development of a healthy mind.
Special guest Dr Shailesh Kumar Pandey highlighted the wider possibilities that sporting opportunities can open up for young people.
He pointed to the achievements of athletes who have earned recognition at national and international levels and said children from the district should also be given opportunities to develop their talent and compete at higher levels.
The event brought together teams of talented students from all 24 blocks of Prayagraj, accompanied by sports instructors, trainers, block education officers and teachers.
Block Education Officers Lalji Sharma, Akhilesh Yadav, Pradeep Singh, Kshama Shankar Pandey and Shailpati Yadav, among others, were present along with Suman Mishra, representatives of teachers’ organisations and other education department personnel.
The programme was organised under the leadership of Basic Education Officer Anil Kumar Singh.

प्रयागराज: मदन मोहन मालवीय स्टेडियम में बुधवार को आयोजित जिला स्तरीय खेलकूद प्रतियोगिता में प्रयागराज के 24 विकासखंडों से पहुंचे करीब 700 खिलाड़ियों ने विभिन्न खेल गतिविधियों में हिस्सा लिया।
कार्यक्रम में जिलाधिकारी मनीष कुमार वर्मा ने बच्चों को पढ़ाई के साथ खेलों से जोड़ने और ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में खेल प्रतिभाओं को आगे बढ़ाने पर जोर दिया।
दो दिवसीय आयोजन के पहले दिन खेल प्रतियोगिताओं के साथ मानव रंगोली प्रतियोगिता भी आयोजित की गई। कार्यक्रम का समापन 24 सितंबर को सांस्कृतिक प्रतियोगिताओं के साथ होगा।
कार्यक्रम को संबोधित करते हुए जिलाधिकारी ने कहा कि खेलों को केवल शहरों तक सीमित रखने के बजाय गांवों और ग्रामीण विद्यालयों में भी बच्चों को खेल गतिविधियों के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया जाना चाहिए।
उन्होंने विद्यालयों में उपलब्ध खेल सामग्री और संसाधनों का विद्यार्थियों के उपयोग के लिए समुचित रूप से इस्तेमाल सुनिश्चित करने पर भी बल दिया।
उन्होंने कहा कि खेल बच्चों के समग्र विकास में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाते हैं।
पढ़ाई के अलावा खेलों के माध्यम से बच्चों में अनुशासन, सहयोग और सामूहिक जिम्मेदारी की भावना विकसित होती है। खासकर टीम आधारित खेल बच्चों को मिल-जुलकर काम करने और साझा लक्ष्य हासिल करने के लिए प्रयास करना सिखाते हैं।
जिलाधिकारी ने इस बात पर भी जोर दिया कि खेल गतिविधियां बच्चों के व्यक्तित्व और व्यवहार में सकारात्मक बदलाव लाने में मदद कर सकती हैं।
खेल के मैदान में बच्चे प्रतिस्पर्धा के साथ-साथ एक-दूसरे के साथ सहयोग करना और टीम के हित में निर्णय लेना भी सीखते हैं।
कार्यक्रम में विशेष अतिथि के रूप में मौजूद महानगर अध्यक्ष संजय गुप्ता ने भी बच्चों की शिक्षा के साथ खेलों को समान महत्व देने की आवश्यकता बताई। उन्होंने कहा कि शारीरिक स्वास्थ्य का बच्चों के मानसिक विकास से भी गहरा संबंध है और नियमित खेलकूद उन्हें स्वस्थ एवं सक्रिय बनाए रखने में सहायक है।
विशेष अतिथि डॉ. शैलेश कुमार पांडे ने खेलों की संभावनाओं का उल्लेख करते हुए कहा कि देश के अनेक खिलाड़ियों ने खेल के क्षेत्र में राष्ट्रीय और अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर पहचान बनाई है।
उन्होंने कहा कि यदि बच्चों को सही प्रशिक्षण और पर्याप्त अवसर मिलें तो प्रयागराज की प्रतिभाएं भी आगे चलकर बड़े मंचों पर अपनी पहचान बना सकती हैं।
प्रतियोगिता में जिले के सभी 24 ब्लॉकों से प्रतिभावान छात्र-छात्राओं की टीमें शामिल हुईं। उनके साथ खेल प्रशिक्षक, अनुदेशक, खंड शिक्षा अधिकारी और शिक्षक भी मौजूद रहे।
कार्यक्रम में खंड शिक्षा अधिकारियों लालजी शर्मा, अखिलेश यादव, प्रदीप सिंह, क्षमा शंकर पांडे और शैलपति यादव सहित सुमन मिश्रा, शिक्षक संगठनों के पदाधिकारी तथा शिक्षा विभाग के अन्य शिक्षक एवं कर्मचारी उपस्थित रहे।
यह जिला स्तरीय आयोजन जिला बेसिक शिक्षा अधिकारी अनिल कुमार सिंह के नेतृत्व में संपन्न कराया गया।
