Yogi Adityanath Sets June-End Deadline for Road Project Approvals, Pushes Mission-Mode Infrastructure Drive in Eastern Uttar Pradesh
Lucknow: With the monsoon season approaching and several key infrastructure projects entering a critical phase, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday directed officials to accelerate the pace of road and bridge construction across eastern Uttar Pradesh.
He also set a June-end deadline for securing approvals for development works proposed by public representatives, stressing the need for swift execution to ensure timely public benefit.
The Chief Minister issued these instructions while reviewing projects being undertaken by the Public Works Department (PWD) in the Gorakhpur and Azamgarh divisions.
During the meeting, he called for a comprehensive “mission-mode” approach to infrastructure development, emphasising that all ongoing projects must be completed within the stipulated timelines and adhere to the highest quality standards.
Adityanath underlined the importance of expediting projects that are awaiting administrative clearances.
He instructed officials to ensure that all pending approvals are processed without delay and that foundation-laying ceremonies are organised promptly once clearances are granted.
According to him, unnecessary procedural delays often affect project timelines, and therefore departments must work in a coordinated manner to speed up implementation.
The Chief Minister also stressed the need for meticulous planning before the commencement of any project.
He directed officials to ensure that all required resources, including manpower, materials, machinery, and financial arrangements, are in place before construction begins.
This, he said, would help avoid disruptions and prevent delays during the execution phase.
Highlighting the importance of development proposals submitted by elected representatives, Adityanath said such projects should be initiated immediately after approval so that citizens can experience the benefits of these works at the earliest.
He noted that public representatives are closely connected with local communities and are often best placed to identify infrastructure needs in their constituencies.
The review meeting comes as the Uttar Pradesh government prepares its infrastructure roadmap for the 2026–27 financial year.
In this context, the Chief Minister instructed the Public Works Department to prioritise road construction and upgradation projects across all Assembly constituencies falling within the Gorakhpur and Azamgarh divisions.
He directed officials to submit a detailed action plan at the earliest so that budgetary allocations and fund releases can be made on time.
To improve efficiency and accountability, Adityanath instructed officials to complete the tendering process within the prescribed timeframe.
He also emphasised the need for stronger field-level monitoring to ensure that projects progress according to schedule.
Divisional commissioners and district magistrates were directed to conduct regular review meetings and closely supervise ongoing works.
The Chief Minister further encouraged the use of technology-driven monitoring systems to track project progress in real time.
He said modern monitoring mechanisms would help identify bottlenecks quickly, improve transparency, and ensure greater accountability among implementing agencies.
Given the imminent arrival of the monsoon, Adityanath instructed departments to prioritise projects that require completion before the onset of heavy rainfall.
He noted that unfinished road and bridge works often face significant disruptions during the rainy season, making timely execution particularly important.
During the review, the Chief Minister also assessed the progress of the under-construction Mohan Setu bridge in Deoria district.
Expressing concern over the pace of work, he directed officials to visit the project site, conduct inspections, and take all necessary measures to accelerate construction so that the bridge can be completed without further delay.
Adityanath also raised concerns regarding contractors who secure government projects through bids that are significantly lower than the estimated project cost. He instructed officials to maintain strict oversight of such contractors and carefully evaluate their performance.
According to him, unusually low bids can sometimes lead to compromised construction quality, cost overruns, or delays in project completion, making continuous monitoring essential.
Worker safety emerged as another major focus of the review meeting. The Chief Minister directed the Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation (Uttar Pradesh Setu Nigam) to strictly enforce all prescribed safety protocols at construction sites.
He instructed authorities to ensure that workers are provided with appropriate safety equipment, protective gear, and adequate workplace safeguards to minimise risks during construction activities.
The emphasis on safety comes in the backdrop of a recent tragedy in Hamirpur district, where an under-construction bridge collapsed on May 28, resulting in the deaths of six workers and injuries to at least three others.
The bridge, being built across the Betwa River, suffered a catastrophic structural failure when sections of the bridge deck gave way, followed by the collapse of supporting pillars.
The incident has intensified concerns over construction safety standards across the state and has prompted the government to place greater emphasis on quality control, site supervision, and worker protection measures.
Adityanath reiterated that while infrastructure development remains a top priority for the government, it must never come at the cost of safety, quality, or accountability.
With a major infrastructure push underway in eastern Uttar Pradesh, the Chief Minister’s directives signal a renewed focus on timely project delivery, efficient monitoring, and enhanced safety measures as the state prepares for the challenges posed by the upcoming monsoon season.
