Uttar Pradesh provides specialised protective jackets, reportedly costing over ₹10 lakh each, to MLA Pooja Pal, spiritual leader Vasudevanand Saraswati and former DGP Prashant Kumar amid heightened VIP security concerns.
Prayagraj: The Uttar Pradesh government has upgraded the personal security arrangements of three prominent personalities associated with Prayagraj by providing them with specialised bulletproof jackets designed to offer protection against high-intensity gunfire.
BJP MLA and party state executive vice-president Pooja Pal, spiritual leader Vasudevanand Saraswati Maharaj and former Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police Prashant Kumar have been supplied with the advanced protective gear, according to information available from security sources.
The jackets are reportedly high-value equipment, with the cost of each estimated at more than ₹10 lakh.
They are designed to protect against an attack involving assault-rifle fire and sustained bursts of bullets.
Among the three, the security arrangements for Pooja Pal have drawn particular attention because of her long history of concerns over threats to her life.
Her husband, then BSP MLA Raju Pal, was assassinated in 2005. Following his killing, Pooja Pal repeatedly raised concerns about her personal safety and sought enhanced protection, alleging a continuing threat from mafia elements and their associates.
She has been accorded Y-Plus security along with an escort.
In the past, she has also written to the government on several occasions expressing apprehension about threats to her life.
The purchase of the specialised jackets was made through the security headquarters.
Sources familiar with VIP protection arrangements said the equipment is intended to enhance survival chances during a firearm attack involving assault weapons.
However, the state government has not publicly disclosed whether the decision to provide the jackets to the three personalities was linked to any specific intelligence input or a fresh threat assessment.
The move comes at a time when Uttar Pradesh is entering a politically charged phase ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
Political parties across the spectrum are expanding organisational activity, while the coming months are expected to bring a sharp increase in rallies, public meetings and high-profile political tours.
As election activity gathers momentum, the movement and public exposure of political leaders are also likely to increase, placing greater demands on police and specialised security agencies.
The strengthening of VIP protection arrangements is therefore being viewed against a broader backdrop of heightened security preparedness in the state.

यह विशेष सुरक्षा उपकरण असॉल्ट राइफल से होने वाली गोलीबारी के दौरान सुरक्षा प्रदान करने के उद्देश्य से तैयार किए गए हैं।
जिन तीन लोगों को ये जैकेट दिए गए हैं, उनमें भाजपा विधायक एवं पार्टी की प्रदेश कार्यकारिणी की उपाध्यक्ष पूजा पाल, वासुदेवानंद सरस्वती महाराज और उत्तर प्रदेश के पूर्व पुलिस महानिदेशक प्रशांत कुमार शामिल हैं।
सुरक्षा सूत्रों के अनुसार, ये उच्च श्रेणी के सुरक्षात्मक जैकेट हैं और एक जैकेट की कीमत ₹10 लाख से अधिक बताई जा रही है।
इन्हें विशेष रूप से असॉल्ट राइफल से होने वाली फायरिंग और गोलियों के तेज बर्स्ट के दौरान सुरक्षा को ध्यान में रखकर तैयार किया गया है।
तीनों नामों में पूजा पाल की सुरक्षा सबसे अधिक चर्चा में है। उनके पति और तत्कालीन बसपा विधायक राजू पाल की वर्ष 2005 में हत्या कर दी गई थी।
इस घटना के बाद से पूजा पाल समय-समय पर अपनी सुरक्षा को लेकर चिंता जताती रही हैं और उन्होंने माफिया तत्वों तथा उनके सहयोगियों से संभावित खतरे का उल्लेख करते हुए सरकार से सुरक्षा बढ़ाने की मांग की थी।
पूजा पाल को पहले से एस्कॉर्ट के साथ वाई-प्लस श्रेणी की सुरक्षा मिली हुई है। उन्होंने विभिन्न अवसरों पर शासन को पत्र भेजकर अपनी जान को लेकर आशंका भी व्यक्त की थी।
इन विशेष जैकेटों की खरीद सुरक्षा मुख्यालय के माध्यम से की गई है। सुरक्षा से जुड़े सूत्रों का कहना है कि इनका उद्देश्य किसी संभावित गंभीर हथियारबंद हमले की स्थिति में संरक्षित व्यक्ति को अतिरिक्त सुरक्षा उपलब्ध कराना है।
हालांकि, सरकार ने आधिकारिक रूप से यह जानकारी नहीं दी है कि इन तीनों को विशेष जैकेट उपलब्ध कराने के पीछे कोई नया सुरक्षा इनपुट था या फिर किसी विशेष खतरे के आकलन के आधार पर यह निर्णय लिया गया।
यह कदम उत्तर प्रदेश में 2027 के विधानसभा चुनाव की तैयारियों के बीच भी महत्वपूर्ण माना जा रहा है।
जैसे-जैसे चुनावी गतिविधियां तेज होंगी, भाजपा, समाजवादी पार्टी, बसपा, कांग्रेस और अन्य दलों के बड़े नेताओं के दौरे, जनसभाएं और सार्वजनिक कार्यक्रम बढ़ने की संभावना है।
राजनीतिक गतिविधियों के विस्तार के साथ प्रमुख नेताओं और वीआईपी व्यक्तियों की सुरक्षा भी पुलिस तथा सुरक्षा एजेंसियों के लिए बड़ी चुनौती बन सकती है।
ऐसे में विशेष सुरक्षा उपकरणों की व्यवस्था को राज्य में बढ़ती सुरक्षा सतर्कता के व्यापक संदर्भ में देखा जा रहा है।
