Instagram Video Triggers Political Storm in Rajasthan

A social media post uploaded by a young Instagram content creator from Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district has sparked a political controversy, with the Congress party coming out in support of the 25-year-old after he was detained by police.

The party accused the police of acting in an excessive and high-handed manner and questioned the basis of the action taken against him.

The Instagrammer, Naveen Choudhary, operates the social media page “Jhunjhunu Express”, which has more than 11,000 followers.

Speaking to The Media Naveen said he uploaded the video on Saturday evening, unaware that it would soon trigger a major political and legal debate.

What the Video Showed

The video reportedly featured two groups of children in a playground. One group was seen skating on a basketball court, while another, larger gathering of children and elders, was dressed in attire resembling that of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) volunteers.

In the voice-over accompanying the video, Naveen contrasted the two groups.

He said one group was learning discipline, engaging in physical activity and preparing to earn honours for the country and make the nation proud. Referring to the second group, he alleged that “seeds of hatred” were being planted among them.

The remarks quickly attracted attention on social media and subsequently led to police intervention.

‘Police Arrived Like I Was a Terrorist’

Naveen claimed that by Sunday morning, only hours after posting the video, he began receiving phone calls from cyber police officials who allegedly instructed him to remove the post.

He further alleged that threatening messages started appearing on his Instagram account and WhatsApp.

According to him, the situation escalated dramatically a few hours later.

“At around nine or ten in the morning, five to ten police vehicles arrived outside my house. It appeared as if they had come to arrest a dangerous criminal.

They took away my phone and pulled me out of my home as though I were a terrorist,” he alleged.

Allegations of Assault and Mental Harassment

Naveen further claimed that he was subjected to physical assault inside the police vehicle for nearly half an hour.

He alleged that police personnel repeatedly questioned him, asking what he knew about the RSS and the Sangh.

According to him, he was later taken to the local Kotwali police station, where he was again threatened. Police authorities, however, have strongly denied these allegations.

The 25-year-old also claimed that officers examined the contents of his mobile phone and browsed through his photo gallery. He alleged that he was kept in an isolated room from around 10.30 am until 8 pm on Sunday.

“There was no food, no drinking water, no proper toilet facility and not even adequate ventilation.

I was mentally harassed. They kept saying that multiple cases would be registered against me,” he claimed.

Naveen said he was eventually released around 11.30 am on Monday. He also alleged that some of his social media posts had been deleted, although he later succeeded in recovering some of them.

Police Say Action Was Taken to Prevent Disturbance of Peace

Kotwali Station House Officer (SHO) Shrawan Kumar Meel said the video had gone viral and had come to the attention of the police monitoring social media platforms.

According to the SHO, police also received complaints alleging that Naveen’s post was creating social discord and disturbing public peace.

“Based on these complaints, he was detained under preventive provisions related to breach of peace and was produced before a magistrate,” Meel said.

The officer categorically rejected the allegations of assault and described them as entirely baseless.

“Police do not function on political considerations. Nobody laid a hand on him,” the SHO said.

He further stated that it is the responsibility of law enforcement agencies to maintain law and order and take preventive action when such videos become widely circulated and have the potential to disturb communal harmony.

He also clarified that no formal First Information Report (FIR) had been registered in the matter.

Jhunjhunu Superintendent of Police Kavendra Singh Sagar did not respond to phone calls and messages seeking his comments.

Additional Superintendent of Police Devendra Singh Rajawat also declined to comment on the controversy.

Congress Questions Police Action

The incident soon acquired political dimensions, with former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and several Congress leaders sharing the controversial video on social media and extending support to Naveen.

Questioning the police action, Gehlot asked whether criticising the RSS had now become a criminal offence in the country.

“Has some new secret law been enacted? The detention of Naveen from Mandawa and the seizure of his mobile phone amount to nothing less than authoritarianism.

The government must explain under which legal provision this action was taken,” Gehlot said.

The former Chief Minister also alleged that similar incidents had been reported from different parts of Rajasthan.

“In a democracy, the voice of truth cannot be silenced through police power. Under whose instructions is the Jhunjhunu Superintendent of Police functioning in this manner? The Director General of Police should take cognisance of the matter,” he said.

Congress Leaders Adopt Aggressive Stand

Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra adopted an even sharper tone while defending the Instagrammer.

He said that if posting such a video, which according to him exposed the “true face” of the RSS, constituted an offence, then every Congress worker would repeat the same act without hesitation.

“If speaking about sports, nation-building and opposing hatred and division is considered a crime, then we are prepared to commit that crime again and again,” Dotasra said.

Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully also criticised the police action and accused the RSS ideology of promoting hatred, division and ideological intolerance in society.

He said intimidating individuals who speak their minds, ask questions and hold those in power accountable was not a new phenomenon.

“If criticism of an organisation, ideology or government is treated as a criminal act, then it ceases to be democracy and becomes a symbol of authoritarian rule.

Suppressing the voices of young people, criminalising dissent and attacking freedom of expression is an insult to the fundamental spirit of the Constitution,” Jully said.

एक इंस्टाग्राम वीडियो से खड़ा हुआ राजनीतिक विवाद

राजस्थान के झुंझुनूं जिले के एक युवा सोशल मीडिया कंटेंट निर्माता द्वारा पोस्ट किए गए एक वीडियो ने राज्य की राजनीति में नया विवाद खड़ा कर दिया है। पुलिस द्वारा 25 वर्षीय युवक को हिरासत में लिए जाने के बाद कांग्रेस पार्टी खुलकर उसके समर्थन में सामने आई और पुलिस पर कथित तौर पर अत्यधिक और मनमाने तरीके से कार्रवाई करने का आरोप लगाया।

युवक की पहचान नवीन चौधरी के रूप में हुई है, जो “झुंझुनूं एक्सप्रेस” नाम से एक इंस्टाग्राम पेज चलाते हैं। इस पेज को 11 हजार से अधिक लोग फॉलो करते हैं। द इंडियन एक्सप्रेस से बातचीत में नवीन ने बताया कि उन्होंने शनिवार शाम यह वीडियो पोस्ट किया था और उन्हें अंदाजा नहीं था कि यह पोस्ट कुछ ही घंटों में इतना बड़ा राजनीतिक और कानूनी विवाद पैदा कर देगी।

वीडियो में क्या दिखाया गया था

नवीन द्वारा पोस्ट किए गए वीडियो में एक खेल मैदान में बच्चों के दो अलग-अलग समूह दिखाई दे रहे थे। एक समूह बास्केटबॉल कोर्ट पर स्केटिंग करता नजर आ रहा था, जबकि दूसरे बड़े समूह में बच्चे और कुछ बुजुर्ग ऐसे परिधानों में दिखाई दे रहे थे, जो राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ (आरएसएस) के स्वयंसेवकों की वेशभूषा से मिलते-जुलते बताए जा रहे हैं।

वीडियो के वॉयस-ओवर में नवीन ने दोनों समूहों के बीच तुलना की। उन्होंने कहा कि एक समूह मैदान में पसीना बहाना, अनुशासन सीखना और देश के लिए पदक जीतकर उसका गौरव बढ़ाना सीख रहा है। वहीं, दूसरे समूह के संदर्भ में उन्होंने आरोप लगाया कि वहां “नफरत के बीज बोए जा रहे हैं।”

सोशल मीडिया पर वीडियो के तेजी से प्रसारित होने के बाद यह मामला पुलिस और राजनीतिक हलकों तक पहुंच गया।

‘ऐसा लगा जैसे किसी आतंकवादी को पकड़ने आए हों’

नवीन का दावा है कि रविवार सुबह से ही उन्हें साइबर पुलिस की ओर से फोन आने लगे और उनसे वीडियो हटाने के लिए कहा गया। उन्होंने यह भी आरोप लगाया कि उनके इंस्टाग्राम और व्हाट्सएप पर धमकी भरे संदेश आने शुरू हो गए थे।

नवीन के अनुसार, कुछ घंटों बाद स्थिति और गंभीर हो गई।

उन्होंने आरोप लगाया, “सुबह करीब नौ या दस बजे पांच से दस पुलिस वाहन मेरे घर के बाहर पहुंच गए। ऐसा लग रहा था मानो वे किसी खतरनाक अपराधी को पकड़ने आए हों। उन्होंने मेरा मोबाइल फोन छीन लिया और मुझे घर से इस तरह बाहर ले गए जैसे मैं कोई आतंकवादी हूं।”

मारपीट और मानसिक प्रताड़ना के आरोप

नवीन ने यह भी आरोप लगाया कि पुलिस वाहन के भीतर करीब आधे घंटे तक उनके साथ मारपीट की गई।

उनका दावा है कि पुलिसकर्मी लगातार उनसे पूछते रहे कि उन्हें आरएसएस और संघ के बारे में क्या जानकारी है। उन्होंने कहा कि बाद में उन्हें स्थानीय कोतवाली थाने ले जाया गया, जहां उन्हें फिर से धमकाया गया। हालांकि, पुलिस ने इन सभी आरोपों को पूरी तरह खारिज किया है।

नवीन ने आरोप लगाया कि पुलिस ने उनके मोबाइल फोन की फोटो गैलरी तक देखी और उन्हें रविवार सुबह लगभग साढ़े दस बजे से रात आठ बजे तक एक अलग कमरे में रखा गया।

उन्होंने कहा, “न वहां खाने की व्यवस्था थी, न पीने के पानी की, न ठीक शौचालय और न ही पर्याप्त हवा आने-जाने की सुविधा। मुझे मानसिक रूप से प्रताड़ित किया गया। लगातार कहा जा रहा था कि मेरे खिलाफ कई मामले दर्ज कर दिए जाएंगे।”

नवीन के अनुसार, उन्हें सोमवार सुबह लगभग साढ़े ग्यारह बजे छोड़ा गया। उन्होंने यह भी आरोप लगाया कि उनके कुछ सोशल मीडिया पोस्ट हटा दिए गए थे, हालांकि बाद में वह उनमें से कुछ को वापस प्राप्त करने में सफल रहे।

पुलिस का पक्ष: शांति भंग होने की आशंका थी

कोतवाली थाना प्रभारी श्रवण कुमार मील ने कहा कि संबंधित वीडियो तेजी से वायरल हो गया था और सोशल मीडिया पर निगरानी कर रही पुलिस टीमों के संज्ञान में आया।

उन्होंने बताया कि पुलिस को शिकायतें मिली थीं कि यह वीडियो समाज में वैमनस्य फैलाने और शांति व्यवस्था को प्रभावित करने का कारण बन सकता है।

उन्होंने कहा, “इन शिकायतों के आधार पर शांति भंग होने की आशंका के तहत उन्हें हिरासत में लिया गया और मजिस्ट्रेट के समक्ष पेश किया गया।”

थाना प्रभारी ने मारपीट के आरोपों को पूरी तरह निराधार बताते हुए कहा कि पुलिस किसी राजनीतिक दृष्टिकोण से काम नहीं करती।

उन्होंने कहा, “पुलिस ने उनके साथ किसी प्रकार की मारपीट नहीं की। किसी ने उन्हें हाथ तक नहीं लगाया।”

उन्होंने आगे कहा कि कानून-व्यवस्था बनाए रखना पुलिस की जिम्मेदारी है और यदि कोई सामग्री व्यापक रूप से प्रसारित होकर सामाजिक तनाव उत्पन्न करने की आशंका पैदा करती है, तो पुलिस को आवश्यक निवारक कदम उठाने पड़ते हैं। उन्होंने यह भी स्पष्ट किया कि इस मामले में कोई प्राथमिकी दर्ज नहीं की गई है।

झुंझुनूं के पुलिस अधीक्षक कावेंद्र सिंह सागर ने इस विषय पर प्रतिक्रिया देने के लिए किए गए फोन कॉल और संदेशों का जवाब नहीं दिया। अतिरिक्त पुलिस अधीक्षक देवेंद्र सिंह राजावत ने भी इस मामले पर टिप्पणी करने से इनकार कर दिया।

कांग्रेस ने उठाए पुलिस कार्रवाई पर सवाल

यह मामला जल्द ही राजनीतिक रूप ले गया। पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री अशोक गहलोत और कांग्रेस के कई अन्य नेताओं ने विवादित वीडियो को सोशल मीडिया पर साझा करते हुए नवीन के प्रति समर्थन व्यक्त किया।

गहलोत ने सवाल उठाते हुए कहा, “क्या अब इस देश में आरएसएस की आलोचना करना अपराध हो गया है? क्या कोई नया गुप्त कानून लागू कर दिया गया है? मंडावा के नवीन को हिरासत में लेना और उनका मोबाइल फोन जब्त करना सीधे-सीधे तानाशाही का उदाहरण है। सरकार को स्पष्ट करना चाहिए कि यह कार्रवाई किस कानून के तहत की गई।”

पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री ने यह भी दावा किया कि राजस्थान के विभिन्न हिस्सों से इसी प्रकार की घटनाओं की खबरें सामने आ रही हैं।

उन्होंने कहा, “लोकतंत्र में सत्य की आवाज को पुलिस शक्ति के बल पर दबाया नहीं जा सकता। झुंझुनूं के पुलिस अधीक्षक आखिर किसके निर्देश पर इस प्रकार काम कर रहे हैं? पुलिस महानिदेशक को इस मामले का संज्ञान लेना चाहिए।”

कांग्रेस नेताओं का तीखा रुख

राजस्थान कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष गोविंद सिंह डोटासरा ने इस मुद्दे पर और अधिक आक्रामक रुख अपनाते हुए कहा कि यदि इस तरह का वीडियो पोस्ट करना, जो उनके अनुसार आरएसएस का ‘वास्तविक चेहरा’ दिखाता है, अपराध है, तो कांग्रेस का हर कार्यकर्ता यह ‘अपराध’ बार-बार करेगा।

उन्होंने कहा, “यदि खेल, राष्ट्र निर्माण और नफरत तथा विभाजन के खिलाफ बोलना अपराध माना जाता है, तो हम यह अपराध बार-बार करने के लिए तैयार हैं।”

विधानसभा में नेता प्रतिपक्ष टीकाराम जूली ने भी पुलिस कार्रवाई की आलोचना करते हुए आरोप लगाया कि आरएसएस की विचारधारा समाज में नफरत, विभाजन और वैचारिक असहिष्णुता को बढ़ावा देती रही है।

उन्होंने कहा कि सच बोलने वाले, सवाल पूछने वाले और सत्ता के सामने आईना दिखाने वालों को डराने और चुप कराने की कोशिश कोई नई बात नहीं है।

जूली ने कहा, “यदि किसी संगठन, विचारधारा या सरकार की आलोचना को अपराध माना जाने लगे, तो वह लोकतंत्र नहीं बल्कि दमनकारी शासन का प्रतीक बन जाता है। युवाओं की आवाज दबाना, असहमति को अपराध की श्रेणी में रखना और अभिव्यक्ति की स्वतंत्रता पर प्रहार करना संविधान की मूल भावना का अपमान है।”
