Suicide Blast at Peace March in Pakistan’s Swat Kills 14, Dozens Injured Amid Rising Security Concerns
Islamabad: A devastating suicide explosion struck a peace procession in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Sunday, leaving at least 14 people dead and several dozen others injured.
The attack took place during a public demonstration calling for peace, further highlighting the worsening security situation in the region.
The deadly incident unfolded in Kabal town of Swat district while the Swat Peace Rally was underway.
Large numbers of residents had gathered under the banner of the Swat Aman Jirga, a local tribal organisation, to voice their demand for lasting peace and improved security in the valley.
According to senior police officials, the assailant was wearing an explosive vest and attempted to force his way into a nearby police station situated at a busy intersection.
Security personnel intercepted him at the main entrance, following which he detonated the explosives strapped to his body, triggering a powerful blast that caused heavy casualties among people gathered in the area.
Emergency response teams rushed to the site soon after the explosion and transported the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Police, along with other security agencies, immediately sealed off the locality and launched an investigation while forensic teams began collecting evidence from the blast site.
No militant organisation had claimed responsibility for the attack till the filing of this report. Investigators are examining all possible angles to determine the group behind the suicide bombing.
Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly denounced the attack and conveyed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.
He also expressed hope for the speedy recovery of those undergoing treatment in hospitals.
The rally had been organised by members of the Swat Aman Jirga, whose participants marched with banners and placards urging authorities to restore normalcy in the region.
Swat has witnessed a noticeable rise in militant violence over the past several months, causing growing concern among residents.
Official figures released by Pakistan’s military on Friday indicated that militant attacks and subsequent security operations have claimed the lives of 819 security personnel and civilians so far this year, underscoring the scale of the country’s security challenge.
Authorities in Islamabad have repeatedly maintained that several militant attacks in border regions are linked to armed groups operating from Afghan territory.
The Taliban administration in Kabul has consistently rejected those allegations, denying any involvement in cross-border violence.
The continuing exchange of accusations has further strained relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, at times leading to armed confrontations along the border.
Pakistan has also conducted air strikes which it says targeted militant hideouts inside Afghanistan.
The Taliban government and the United Nations have, however, stated that the latest Pakistani air strikes carried out in eastern Afghanistan during June resulted in the deaths of dozens of civilians, adding another layer of tension to already fragile bilateral ties.

इस्लामाबाद: पाकिस्तान के उत्तर-पश्चिमी प्रांत खैबर पख्तूनख्वा में रविवार को शांति मार्च के दौरान हुए आत्मघाती विस्फोट ने पूरे क्षेत्र को दहला दिया।
इस हमले में कम से कम 14 लोगों की मौत हो गई, जबकि कई दर्जन अन्य घायल हो गए। घटना ने एक बार फिर इलाके में लगातार बिगड़ती सुरक्षा व्यवस्था पर गंभीर सवाल खड़े कर दिए हैं।
यह विस्फोट स्वात जिले के कबल कस्बे में उस समय हुआ जब स्वात पीस रैली जारी थी।
स्थानीय आदिवासी संगठन ‘स्वात अमन जिरगा’ के आह्वान पर बड़ी संख्या में लोग क्षेत्र में शांति और सुरक्षित माहौल की मांग को लेकर एकत्र हुए थे।
पुलिस अधिकारियों के अनुसार हमलावर ने विस्फोटकों से भरी जैकेट पहन रखी थी और उसने चौराहे पर स्थित पुलिस थाने में प्रवेश करने की कोशिश की।
मुख्य द्वार पर तैनात पुलिसकर्मियों ने उसे रोक लिया, जिसके बाद उसने वहीं अपने शरीर से बंधे विस्फोटकों में धमाका कर दिया।
विस्फोट की तीव्रता इतनी अधिक थी कि आसपास मौजूद लोगों में भारी जनहानि हुई।
घटना के तुरंत बाद राहत एवं बचाव दल मौके पर पहुंचे और घायलों को विभिन्न अस्पतालों में भर्ती कराया गया।
पुलिस तथा अन्य सुरक्षा एजेंसियों ने पूरे इलाके को घेरकर जांच शुरू कर दी, जबकि फोरेंसिक विशेषज्ञों ने घटनास्थल से साक्ष्य जुटाने की कार्रवाई आरंभ की।
समाचार लिखे जाने तक किसी भी उग्रवादी संगठन ने इस आत्मघाती हमले की जिम्मेदारी नहीं ली थी।
जांच एजेंसियां सभी संभावित पहलुओं की पड़ताल कर रही हैं ताकि हमले के पीछे सक्रिय संगठन की पहचान की जा सके।
पाकिस्तान के गृह मंत्री मोहसिन नकवी ने इस हमले की कड़ी निंदा की और मृतकों के परिजनों के प्रति गहरी संवेदना व्यक्त की। उन्होंने अस्पतालों में भर्ती घायलों के शीघ्र स्वस्थ होने की भी कामना की।
स्वात अमन जिरगा द्वारा आयोजित इस रैली में शामिल लोग बैनर और तख्तियां लेकर क्षेत्र में शांति बहाल करने तथा आतंकवाद पर प्रभावी नियंत्रण की मांग कर रहे थे।
पिछले कुछ महीनों में स्वात घाटी में उग्रवादी गतिविधियों में लगातार वृद्धि दर्ज की गई है, जिससे स्थानीय लोगों में चिंता बढ़ी है।
पाकिस्तानी सेना द्वारा शुक्रवार को जारी आंकड़ों के अनुसार इस वर्ष अब तक आतंकवादी हमलों और उनके जवाब में चलाए गए सुरक्षा अभियानों में 819 सुरक्षाकर्मियों और नागरिकों की जान जा चुकी है।
यह आंकड़ा देश के सामने मौजूद सुरक्षा चुनौती की गंभीरता को दर्शाता है।
इस्लामाबाद लगातार यह आरोप लगाता रहा है कि सीमावर्ती इलाकों में होने वाले अनेक आतंकी हमलों के पीछे अफगानिस्तान की धरती से सक्रिय उग्रवादी समूहों का हाथ है।
दूसरी ओर काबुल में तालिबान सरकार इन आरोपों को लगातार खारिज करती रही है और किसी भी प्रकार की संलिप्तता से इनकार करती है।
दोनों देशों के बीच इन आरोप-प्रत्यारोपों ने संबंधों में गहरी कटुता पैदा कर दी है और कई अवसरों पर सीमा पर सशस्त्र झड़पें भी हुई हैं।
पाकिस्तान का कहना है कि उसने अफगानिस्तान के भीतर केवल आतंकवादी ठिकानों को निशाना बनाकर हवाई हमले किए हैं।
हालांकि, तालिबान प्रशासन और संयुक्त राष्ट्र का कहना है कि जून में पूर्वी अफगानिस्तान में पाकिस्तान द्वारा किए गए ताजा हवाई हमलों में दर्जनों नागरिकों की मौत हुई थी।
इस दावे ने पहले से तनावपूर्ण पाकिस्तान-अफगानिस्तान संबंधों को और अधिक जटिल बना दिया है।
