Bangkok: A school shooting in Thailand’s Nonthaburi province on Friday left multiple people dead after a teenage student allegedly killed his grandparents at their home before opening fire at his own school, according to Thai police.
Investigators are treating the two incidents as part of the same sequence of events while working to establish the motive behind the attacks.
Authorities said the suspect, who was enrolled at Debsirin Nonthaburi School, later died from what investigators believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officials identified the teenager as the lone gunman involved in the incident.
The violence claimed the lives of the suspect’s grandparents, three students and three teachers, making it one of the deadliest school attacks reported in Thailand in recent years.
Police said the firearm used in the shooting is believed to have belonged to a member of the suspect’s family, though forensic examinations and further inquiries are continuing.
The attack unfolded at the school in Nonthaburi, located northwest of Bangkok, sending students and staff scrambling for safety.
Witnesses described scenes of panic as classrooms were locked down and emergency sirens echoed across the campus. Ambulances transported the injured to nearby medical facilities while security personnel secured the area.
Several students took shelter inside classrooms after hearing repeated gunshots.
They remained hidden until police officers declared parts of the campus safe and escorted them out.
Emotional scenes were witnessed outside the school as teachers and parents reunited following the evacuation.
One student told reporters that the first sounds were mistaken for firecrackers before it became evident that gunfire had erupted inside the campus.
The witness recalled hearing several rounds fired in quick succession, followed by brief periods of silence before the shooting resumed.
Emergency response teams arrived while the attack was still in progress. Rescue personnel said they found victims in different parts of the school building and immediately began providing medical assistance.
One injured teacher received prolonged cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before being shifted to the hospital, but medical efforts were unsuccessful.
Police said at least 15 people sustained injuries during the incident, with some victims reported to be in critical condition.
Hospitals in the region continued treating those wounded as authorities monitored their condition.
According to district education officials, Debsirin Nonthaburi School has an enrolment of around 3,100 students and employs 147 teachers, making it one of the larger educational institutions in the area.
Thailand’s senior government leaders expressed condolences to the families of those killed and assured that assistance would be provided to survivors and relatives.
Education authorities also announced support measures for affected students, teachers and school staff as the community copes with the tragedy.
Investigators are examining the suspect’s background, family circumstances and possible reasons that may have led to the shootings.
Officials have not yet announced any confirmed motive and said the investigation remains ongoing.
The latest incident has once again drawn attention to school security and firearm access in Thailand.
It follows another school shooting reported earlier this year and comes after several high-profile mass shooting incidents that have occurred across the country over the past few years, prompting renewed debate over public safety and gun control.

पुलिस के अनुसार, एक किशोर छात्र ने पहले अपने घर पर कथित रूप से अपने दादा-दादी की गोली मारकर हत्या कर दी और इसके बाद अपने ही स्कूल पहुंचकर अंधाधुंध फायरिंग कर दी।
जांच एजेंसियां दोनों घटनाओं को एक ही घटनाक्रम का हिस्सा मानते हुए हमले के पीछे की वजह का पता लगाने में जुटी हैं।
पुलिस ने बताया कि संदिग्ध छात्र, जो डेबसिरिन नॉनथाबुरी स्कूल का विद्यार्थी था, हमले के बाद स्वयं को भी गोली मार बैठा और उसकी मृत्यु हो गई।
प्रारंभिक जांच में उसे इस वारदात का एकमात्र हमलावर माना जा रहा है।
इस हिंसक घटना में आरोपी के दादा-दादी के अलावा तीन छात्रों और तीन शिक्षकों की भी जान चली गई। इस प्रकार कुल आठ लोगों की मौत हुई।

एक छात्र ने स्थानीय मीडिया को बताया कि शुरुआत में उसे गोलियों की आवाज पटाखों जैसी लगी। कुछ ही क्षण बाद लगातार फायरिंग की आवाज सुनाई देने पर उसे एहसास हुआ कि स्कूल परिसर में गंभीर घटना घट रही है।
आपातकालीन बचाव दल के सदस्य उस समय स्कूल पहुंचे जब फायरिंग जारी थी। बचावकर्मियों ने विभिन्न स्थानों से घायल और मृत लोगों को बाहर निकाला।
एक महिला शिक्षिका को लंबे समय तक सीपीआर (कार्डियोपल्मोनरी रिससिटेशन) दिया गया और अस्पताल ले जाया गया, लेकिन चिकित्सकों के प्रयासों के बावजूद उन्हें बचाया नहीं जा सका।
पुलिस के अनुसार, इस हमले में कम से कम 15 लोग घायल हुए हैं। स्थानीय मीडिया रिपोर्टों के मुताबिक इनमें से दो की हालत गंभीर बनी हुई है और उनका अस्पताल में इलाज जारी है।
जिला शिक्षा अधिकारियों के अनुसार, वर्ष 2025 के शैक्षणिक सत्र में डेबसिरिन नॉनथाबुरी स्कूल में लगभग 3,100 छात्र और 147 शिक्षक कार्यरत थे।

थाईलैंड के प्रधानमंत्री अनुतिन चार्नवीराकुल ने मृतकों के परिजनों के प्रति गहरी संवेदना व्यक्त करते हुए प्रभावित परिवारों को हरसंभव सहायता उपलब्ध कराने के निर्देश दिए हैं।
उप शिक्षा मंत्री अक्करानन कन्नाकित्तिनन ने भी कहा कि सरकार पीड़ितों, छात्रों, शिक्षकों और उनके परिवारों को आवश्यक सहयोग उपलब्ध कराने के लिए विभिन्न विभागों के साथ समन्वय कर रही है।
जांच अधिकारी आरोपी की पृष्ठभूमि, पारिवारिक परिस्थितियों और हमले के संभावित कारणों की गहन जांच कर रहे हैं।
फिलहाल घटना के पीछे की मंशा स्पष्ट नहीं हो सकी है और पुलिस ने कहा है कि जांच पूरी होने के बाद ही विस्तृत जानकारी साझा की जाएगी।
इस घटना ने एक बार फिर थाईलैंड में स्कूलों की सुरक्षा व्यवस्था और हथियारों तक आसान पहुंच को लेकर गंभीर सवाल खड़े कर दिए हैं।
