Triple Murder in Prayagraj Solved: Five Arrested for Killing Three Elderly Family Members Over Alleged Love Affair Dispute
Prayagraj: Police have cracked the sensational triple murder case that shocked residents of Neebi Khurdkalan village under the Karchhana police station limits in Prayagraj.
Within four days of the brutal crime, investigators arrested five people allegedly involved in the killings of three elderly members of the same family.
According to police officials, the accused were apprehended on Tuesday morning during an operation conducted on the outskirts of the village.
The murders had sent shockwaves through the area because the victims were attacked in broad daylight inside their home.
Three Elderly Family Members Hacked to Death
The victims were identified as 65-year-old Shyamlal Gupta, his younger brother Vindhyachal’s wife, 60-year-old Indravati Devi, and his nephew Rajkumar’s wife, 55-year-old Amaravati Devi.
All three were allegedly killed with a sharp-edged weapon on Saturday.
Shyamlal Gupta was the youngest among five brothers.
Most of his brothers had already passed away, while two other brothers and their families lived outside the village.
At the family residence, Shyamlal lived with his wife Phoolkali Devi, his sister-in-law Indravati Devi, and Amaravati Devi, the wife of his nephew.
The horrific killings left the family devastated. Police said Shyamlal’s wife, Phoolkali Devi, suffered severe emotional trauma after witnessing the tragedy, and her mental condition deteriorated significantly. She has since been admitted to SRN Hospital for treatment and medical care.
Investigation Reveals Motive Linked to Relationship Dispute
Police teams gathered evidence and questioned several people during the investigation. Their inquiry allegedly revealed that the crime was rooted in an ongoing dispute over a romantic relationship.
The main accused has been identified as Mukesh Yadav, who is related to the deceased family and belongs to the same village. Investigators said Mukesh was reportedly in a relationship with Shyamlal Gupta’s daughter, and the couple wanted to marry each other.
However, the girl’s family allegedly opposed the relationship and was unwilling to approve the marriage. Police believe this disagreement eventually escalated and led to the gruesome murders.
Five Accused Taken Into Custody
Along with Mukesh Yadav, police arrested his brother Vikas, his sister-in-law Nisha, and his friend Ram Yadav. The young woman involved in the relationship was also taken into custody for questioning in connection with the case.
Investigators further claimed that the couple had reportedly eloped around two months ago, creating tensions between the two families and intensifying the dispute.
Police Action Continues
The police have described the case as a breakthrough, saying that scientific evidence and sustained investigation helped them identify and arrest the accused in a short period.
Authorities are continuing their inquiry to establish the precise sequence of events and determine the individual roles played by each accused in the conspiracy.
Separately, Hulki In-charge Rameshwar has been suspended, and police had earlier announced a reward of ₹25,000 for the arrest of the main accused, Mukesh Yadav. The investigation remains ongoing.
