UP Government Announces 50% Bus Fare Concession for NEET Candidates; Summer Vacation Extended Until June 24

Lucknow: In a major relief for students appearing in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) on June 21, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a 50 per cent concession in bus fares operated by the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC).

The decision was taken to ease the travel burden on thousands of students who will be travelling to examination centres across the state.

The Chief Minister announced during a high-level review meeting conducted through video conferencing, where he assessed the state’s preparations for the monsoon season, flood management, arrangements for NEET, and celebrations related to the upcoming International Yoga Day.

Officials informed the Chief Minister that NEET examinations will be conducted in 59 districts of Uttar Pradesh, with a large number of candidates expected to appear.

Considering the extensive travel involved, the government decided to provide subsidised transportation to ensure that students can reach their examination centres conveniently and without financial strain.

In addition to offering a discounted fare, the Chief Minister instructed district administrations to make adequate arrangements for students coming from other districts.

He emphasised that candidates should not face any inconvenience while travelling or staying near their examination centres.

Directions Issued for Smooth and Fair Conduct of Examination

Chief Minister Adityanath also directed officials to examine in a transparent, secure and sensitive manner.

He instructed authorities to remain vigilant against rumours, misleading information and any attempts to disrupt the examination process through misinformation.

The Chief Minister said that if candidates encounter difficulties in obtaining accommodation, district administrations should arrange temporary lodging facilities and provide all necessary assistance.

He stressed that the well-being and convenience of students must remain the government’s priority throughout the examination process.

Summer Vacation in Schools Extended Until June 24 Due to Heatwave

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government has also extended the summer vacation in council-run primary and upper primary schools until June 24 in view of the continuing heatwave conditions across the state.

Under the revised schedule, schools will remain closed until June 24 and will reopen on June 25. The extension applies to both students and teaching staff.

According to the Secretary of the Basic Education Council, the academic calendar has been amended because of the persistent rise in temperatures and concerns over student safety.

Several schools had reopened on June 16, but intense heat conditions prompted the authorities to reconsider the decision.

Education officials stated that the extension was necessary to safeguard children and school staff from extreme weather conditions.

The government has advised educational institutions to remain alert and prioritise health and safety measures before classes resume.
