Udhampur Encounter: Two Militants Killed in Overnight Operation, Security Forces Intensify Search
Army, J&K Police and CRPF launch joint operation in Brattal-Majalta area after intelligence inputs; identities of slain militants yet to be established
Udhampur: Security forces killed two militants during an overnight counter-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, following intelligence inputs about their presence in the Brattal area.
The operation was carried out jointly by the Army’s White Knight Corps, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) during the intervening night of September 16 and 17.
Officials said the operation was conducted under difficult weather and terrain conditions, with poor visibility adding to the challenges faced by the troops.
Security personnel had detected suspicious movement in the Majalta area late Wednesday, prompting a coordinated search and surveillance operation. As the teams moved through the area, they came under fire from the suspected militants.
The security forces returned fire, triggering an exchange of gunfire in which two militants were killed, officials said.
The Army’s Jammu-based White Knight Corps said the operation was launched after receiving confirmed intelligence indicating the presence of terrorists in the general Brattal area. It described the action as a targeted counter-terrorism operation.
Arms and ammunition were recovered from the site following the encounter, officials said.
The identities of the two deceased militants and their organisational affiliations were still being ascertained.
The security operation has not yet been called off.
Troops have maintained the cordon around the area and are carrying out extensive searches and surveillance to determine whether any other militants could be hiding in the surrounding terrain.
Officials said additional forces were moved into the area after the encounter to strengthen the security cordon and assist with the combing operation.
The continuing search is aimed at eliminating any remaining threat and ensuring that no other militant is able to escape from the area, security officials said.

उधमपुर: जम्मू-कश्मीर के उधमपुर जिले में सुरक्षा बलों ने रातभर चले आतंकवाद रोधी अभियान के दौरान दो आतंकियों को मार गिराया।
यह कार्रवाई ब्रट्टल इलाके में आतंकियों की मौजूदगी के संबंध में मिली खुफिया जानकारी के आधार पर की गई।
अभियान में सेना की व्हाइट नाइट कोर के जवानों के साथ जम्मू-कश्मीर पुलिस और केंद्रीय रिजर्व पुलिस बल (CRPF) की टुकड़ियां शामिल थीं।
कार्रवाई 16 और 17 सितंबर की दरम्यानी रात की गई। अधिकारियों के मुताबिक, खराब मौसम, दुर्गम इलाका और कम दृश्यता अभियान के दौरान बड़ी चुनौतियां बनी रहीं।
अधिकारियों ने बताया कि बुधवार देर शाम मजालता क्षेत्र में संदिग्ध गतिविधियां दिखाई देने के बाद सुरक्षा बलों ने इलाके में तलाशी और निगरानी अभियान शुरू किया। तलाशी दल आगे बढ़ रहे थे, तभी उन्हें संदिग्ध आतंकियों की ओर से गोलीबारी का सामना करना पड़ा।
जवाबी कार्रवाई के बाद दोनों पक्षों के बीच मुठभेड़ शुरू हो गई। गोलीबारी के दौरान सुरक्षा बलों ने दो आतंकियों को मार गिराया।
जम्मू स्थित व्हाइट नाइट कोर ने बताया कि ब्रट्टल क्षेत्र में आतंकियों की मौजूदगी के बारे में पुख्ता खुफिया जानकारी मिलने के बाद संयुक्त अभियान शुरू किया गया था। सेना ने इसे लक्षित आतंकवाद रोधी कार्रवाई बताया।
मुठभेड़ के बाद घटनास्थल से हथियार और गोला-बारूद बरामद किया गया। अधिकारियों के अनुसार, मारे गए दोनों आतंकियों की पहचान और उनके संगठन से जुड़े होने की जानकारी अभी निर्धारित की जा रही है।
सुरक्षा बलों ने अभियान समाप्त नहीं किया है। इलाके में घेरा मजबूत कर दिया गया है और आसपास के क्षेत्रों में व्यापक तलाशी तथा निगरानी अभियान चलाया जा रहा है, ताकि यह पता लगाया जा सके कि कहीं कोई अन्य आतंकी छिपा तो नहीं है।
अधिकारियों ने बताया कि मुठभेड़ के बाद इलाके में अतिरिक्त सुरक्षा बल भी भेजे गए हैं। इन जवानों को घेराबंदी मजबूत करने और व्यापक तलाशी अभियान में सहायता के लिए तैनात किया गया है।
सुरक्षा बलों का ध्यान अब संभावित रूप से छिपे किसी अन्य खतरे का पता लगाने और यह सुनिश्चित करने पर है कि कोई संदिग्ध आतंकी इलाके से निकल न सके।
