US-Iran Conflict Intensifies: Fresh American Airstrikes, Iranian Retaliation Raise Fears of Wider West Asia War

Washington/ Tehran: Military tensions between the United States and Iran escalated sharply on Wednesday as American forces launched another wave of airstrikes across Iranian territory, prompting a stern warning from US President Donald Trump, who said Tehran “better behave.”

The renewed exchange of hostilities has further weakened efforts to stabilise the region and heightened fears of a broader conflict in West Asia.

American military officials said the latest operations were aimed at dismantling Iranian capabilities used to threaten commercial shipping passing through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

During the operation, US forces also intercepted and disabled a commercial vessel that allegedly attempted to breach the naval blockade imposed on Iranian ports.

The latest offensive followed Iran’s claim that it had carried out retaliatory strikes against American military installations in the Gulf region, including facilities located in Bahrain and Kuwait.

The renewed military confrontation entered its fifth consecutive day, placing additional strain on the fragile understanding that had been intended to end hostilities between the two countries.

According to the US military, multiple strategic targets across Iran came under attack, including locations in Bandar Abbas and Greater Tunb Island.

Iranian media also reported explosions in Qeshm Island, Bandar Abbas, and Chabahar.

Additional strikes reportedly targeted Khondab, while residents of Khorramabad said they heard two powerful explosions.

Earlier in the day, Washington announced that its forces had carried out a missile strike against an oil tanker allegedly attempting to violate the naval blockade while heading towards an Iranian port.

Two additional vessels were reportedly redirected after being intercepted during the operation.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that its forces observed the Curaçao-flagged tanker M/T Belma sailing through international waters toward Kharg Island.

According to the military, the vessel ignored repeated warnings, following which an American aircraft fired Hellfire missiles into the ship’s smokestack, rendering it inoperable and preventing it from continuing its voyage.

As the conflict widened, Iranian air defence systems were activated in Tehran and the nearby city of Pakdasht amid fears of further aerial attacks.

Responding to the American offensive, Iran’s armed forces and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed to have targeted US military positions in Kuwait and Jordan.

Iranian authorities also stated that an American MQ-9 Reaper drone had been shot down over Andimeshk. Air raid sirens were simultaneously activated in Bahrain as regional security concerns deepened.

Iranian health authorities said the latest US attacks had resulted in at least 35 deaths and left more than 300 people injured, reflecting the growing humanitarian cost of the escalating conflict.

The deteriorating security situation also sent shockwaves through global energy markets.

International crude oil prices climbed for the fourth consecutive day as investors feared prolonged disruption to oil supplies passing through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy corridors.

Brent crude rose to around US$85.28 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate advanced to approximately US$80.02 per barrel.

Meanwhile, reports from Washington suggested that President Trump is considering a significant expansion of American military operations against Iran.

Following high-level consultations with senior national security advisers in the White House Situation Room, military planners reportedly presented multiple options involving fresh strategic targets that have not previously been attacked.

Among the proposals under consideration were operations to seize strategically located Iranian islands near the Strait of Hormuz and possible strikes against the Pickaxe Mountain nuclear facility.

However, no final decision has been announced, with officials indicating that military action could intensify if diplomatic efforts with Tehran fail in the coming days.

In an earlier television interview, President Trump indicated that future military operations could extend to Iran’s bridges and power infrastructure if required, although he described such action as a last resort.

Asked whether Tehran had been given a deadline, he replied that while he preferred not to set timelines publicly, Iran was well aware of Washington’s expectations and “better behave.”

On the diplomatic front, Iran’s senior negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Tehran no longer saw any advantage in continuing with the existing agreement if it failed to deliver meaningful benefits.

He asserted that safeguarding Iran’s national security depended upon maintaining full control over its strategic interests in the Strait of Hormuz and described negotiations as only one element of the country’s broader resistance strategy.

Reinforcing that position, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei announced that Iran no longer considered itself bound by its commitments under the memorandum.

He stated that Tehran’s obligations would remain valid only if the opposing side honoured its own commitments, adding that Iran was not planning any further negotiations with Washington and was currently focused on defending its national interests.

इस बीच अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रंप ने तेहरान को कड़ी चेतावनी देते हुए कहा कि उसे “ठीक व्यवहार करना होगा।” दोनों देशों के बीच लगातार बढ़ते सैन्य हमलों ने पूरे पश्चिम एशिया में बड़े युद्ध की आशंकाओं को और गहरा कर दिया है।

अमेरिकी सेना के अनुसार ताजा अभियान का उद्देश्य उन ईरानी सैन्य क्षमताओं को कमजोर करना था, जिनका इस्तेमाल होरमुज़ जलडमरूमध्य से गुजरने वाले वाणिज्यिक जहाजों के लिए खतरा पैदा करने में किया जा रहा था।

इसी अभियान के दौरान अमेरिकी बलों ने एक ऐसे वाणिज्यिक जहाज को भी निष्क्रिय कर दिया, जिस पर ईरानी बंदरगाहों पर लागू नौसैनिक नाकेबंदी का उल्लंघन करने का आरोप लगाया गया।

यह कार्रवाई ऐसे समय हुई जब ईरान ने दावा किया कि उसने खाड़ी क्षेत्र में स्थित अमेरिकी सैन्य ठिकानों, जिनमें बहरीन और कुवैत के प्रतिष्ठान भी शामिल हैं, पर जवाबी हमले किए हैं।

दोनों देशों के बीच संघर्ष लगातार पांचवें दिन भी जारी रहा, जिससे युद्धविराम की दिशा में हुए शुरुआती प्रयास लगभग निष्प्रभावी होते दिखाई दिए।

अमेरिकी सैन्य अधिकारियों के मुताबिक, ताजा हवाई हमलों में बंदर अब्बास और ग्रेटर टुन्ब द्वीप सहित कई महत्वपूर्ण सैन्य ठिकानों को निशाना बनाया गया।

वहीं ईरानी मीडिया ने क़ेश्म द्वीप, बंदर अब्बास और चाबहार में विस्फोटों की सूचना दी। इसके अलावा खोंदाब क्षेत्र पर भी हमले किए गए, जबकि खुर्रमाबाद के निवासियों ने दो शक्तिशाली धमाकों की आवाज सुनने की बात कही।

दिन में इससे पहले अमेरिका ने घोषणा की थी कि उसकी सेना ने एक ऐसे तेल टैंकर पर मिसाइल हमला किया, जो कथित तौर पर नौसैनिक नाकेबंदी तोड़कर ईरानी बंदरगाह की ओर बढ़ रहा था।

अभियान के दौरान दो अन्य जहाजों को भी रोककर उनका मार्ग बदल दिया गया।

अमेरिकी सेंट्रल कमांड (सेंटकॉम) के अनुसार, कुरासाओ ध्वज वाले एम/टी बेल्मा नामक टैंकर को अंतरराष्ट्रीय समुद्री क्षेत्र से खार्ग द्वीप की ओर जाते हुए देखा गया।

सेना का दावा है कि बार-बार चेतावनी देने के बावजूद जहाज ने अपना मार्ग नहीं बदला, जिसके बाद अमेरिकी विमान ने हेलफायर मिसाइल दागकर उसके धुएं के चिमनी हिस्से को क्षतिग्रस्त कर दिया और उसे आगे बढ़ने से रोक दिया।

लगातार हो रहे हवाई हमलों के बीच राजधानी तेहरान और उसके निकटवर्ती पाकदश्त क्षेत्र में वायु रक्षा प्रणालियों को सक्रिय कर दिया गया, जिससे संभावित नए हमलों के प्रति सतर्कता और बढ़ गई।

अमेरिकी कार्रवाई के जवाब में ईरानी सेना और इस्लामिक रिवोल्यूशनरी गार्ड कॉर्प्स (आईआरजीसी) ने कुवैत और जॉर्डन में अमेरिकी सैन्य ठिकानों को निशाना बनाने का दावा किया।

ईरान ने यह भी कहा कि अंदीमेशक क्षेत्र के ऊपर एक अमेरिकी एमक्यू-9 रीपर ड्रोन को मार गिराया गया। इसी दौरान बहरीन में भी हवाई हमले की चेतावनी देने वाले सायरन बजाए गए।

ईरान के स्वास्थ्य अधिकारियों के अनुसार ताजा अमेरिकी हमलों में कम से कम 35 लोगों की मृत्यु हुई है, जबकि 300 से अधिक लोग घायल हुए हैं। बढ़ती सैन्य कार्रवाई के साथ मानवीय संकट भी गंभीर होता जा रहा है।

संघर्ष का असर वैश्विक ऊर्जा बाजारों पर भी दिखाई दिया। होरमुज़ जलडमरूमध्य से तेल आपूर्ति प्रभावित होने की आशंकाओं के बीच अंतरराष्ट्रीय कच्चे तेल की कीमतों में लगातार चौथे दिन तेजी दर्ज की गई।

ब्रेंट क्रूड लगभग 85.28 डॉलर प्रति बैरल और अमेरिकी वेस्ट टेक्सास इंटरमीडिएट लगभग 80.02 डॉलर प्रति बैरल तक पहुंच गया।

उधर वॉशिंगटन से सामने आई रिपोर्टों के अनुसार राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रंप ईरान के खिलाफ सैन्य अभियान का दायरा और बढ़ाने पर विचार कर रहे हैं।

व्हाइट हाउस के सिचुएशन रूम में वरिष्ठ राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा अधिकारियों के साथ हुई बैठक में ऐसे कई विकल्पों पर चर्चा की गई, जिनमें ईरान के नए सामरिक ठिकानों पर कार्रवाई शामिल है।

विचाराधीन विकल्पों में होरमुज़ जलडमरूमध्य के निकट स्थित ईरानी द्वीपों पर नियंत्रण स्थापित करने तथा पिकएक्स माउंटेन परमाणु परिसर पर हमला करने जैसी संभावित सैन्य योजनाएं भी शामिल बताई जा रही हैं।

हालांकि अंतिम निर्णय अभी नहीं लिया गया है और संकेत दिए गए हैं कि यदि कूटनीतिक प्रयास विफल रहे तो सैन्य कार्रवाई और तेज हो सकती है।

एक टेलीविजन साक्षात्कार में राष्ट्रपति ट्रंप ने संकेत दिया था कि आवश्यकता पड़ने पर भविष्य में ईरान के पुलों और बिजली संयंत्रों को भी निशाना बनाया जा सकता है, हालांकि उन्होंने इसे अंतिम विकल्प बताया।

जब उनसे पूछा गया कि क्या ईरान को कोई समयसीमा दी गई है, तो उन्होंने कहा कि वह सार्वजनिक रूप से समयसीमा तय करना पसंद नहीं करते, लेकिन तेहरान को पूरी स्थिति का अंदाजा है और उसे “ठीक व्यवहार करना चाहिए।”

कूटनीतिक मोर्चे पर ईरान के वरिष्ठ वार्ताकार मोहम्मद बाकर गालिबाफ ने कहा कि यदि मौजूदा समझौते से ईरान को कोई लाभ नहीं मिलता, तो उसके लिए उससे जुड़े रहने का कोई औचित्य नहीं है।

उन्होंने कहा कि देश की राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा होरमुज़ जलडमरूमध्य में अपने रणनीतिक हितों को सुरक्षित रखने पर निर्भर करती है और वार्ता भी ईरान की व्यापक प्रतिरोध रणनीति का एक हिस्सा भर है।

इसी रुख को आगे बढ़ाते हुए विदेश मंत्रालय के प्रवक्ता इस्माइल बघाई ने कहा कि ईरान अब उस समझौता ज्ञापन के तहत अपनी प्रतिबद्धताओं को लागू मानने के लिए बाध्य नहीं है।

उन्होंने स्पष्ट किया कि तेहरान तभी तक अपने दायित्व निभाएगा, जब तक दूसरा पक्ष भी अपने वादों का पालन करेगा।

उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि फिलहाल अमेरिका के साथ किसी नई वार्ता की योजना नहीं है और ईरान का पूरा ध्यान अपनी राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा और रक्षा पर केंद्रित है।
