Yogi Adityanath Implements New Safety Measures Following Maha Kumbh Stampede That Killed 30

In the aftermath of a tragic stampede at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj that claimed 30 lives and injured 60 others, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a series of measures to enhance crowd and traffic management at the world’s largest spiritual gathering.

The stampede occurred early Wednesday morning during Mauni Amavasya, when millions of devotees gathered at the Sangam area to take a holy dip.

Key Measures to Ensure Safety

To prevent further incidents, the Maha Kumbh area has been declared a no-vehicle zone. VVIP passes have been revoked, and all roads leading to the event have been made one-way to facilitate smoother movement of devotees.

Adityanath convened an emergency late-night video conference with senior police officers and district officials from several regions, including Prayagraj, Varanasi, Ayodhya, Mirzapur, Kaushambi, and Rae Bareli.

Among the measures announced were:

Holding Areas at Borders: Establishment of holding zones at border points to regulate the flow of crowds into Prayagraj.

Unobstructed Return Routes: Ensuring all exit routes from Prayagraj remain open and free of congestion.

Relocation of Street Vendors:

Vendors operating on roads will be moved to designated empty areas to prevent traffic disruptions.

Increased Patrolling: Police presence in the Mela area will be bolstered, and key routes like Ayodhya-Prayagraj, Kanpur-Prayagraj, and Lucknow-Pratapgarh-Prayagraj will be closely monitoredFood and Water Arrangements: Proper provisions will be made at holding areas for devotees who may need to pause during their visit.

Focus on Crowd Control and Transportation

Chief Minister Adityanath emphasized the importance of crowd management, instructing officials to ensure that no jams occur on roads and that devotees are allowed to move forward based on real-time conditions. Barricades will be strategically placed to manage the flow of people, and parking facilities will be improved in the Mela area.

Acknowledging the heavy footfall at Prayagraj’s railway stations, Adityanath directed officials to ensure the smooth departure of devotees returning home. The administration has been instructed to deploy additional buses and special trains to accommodate the rush.

Preparations for Upcoming Events

Adityanath also highlighted the significance of the upcoming Amrit Snan on Basant Panchami, scheduled for February 3. With lakhs of devotees expected to visit cities like Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Chitrakoot in the coming days, he called for heightened vigilance in these areas.

The Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police have been tasked with reviewing the arrangements at the Mela area and ensuring that all safety protocols are in place before the next major event.

Judicial Probe Ordered

In response to the tragedy, Adityanath has ordered a judicial probe into the circumstances surrounding the stampede. He reiterated the need for officials to work diligently to prevent any further mishaps and ensure the safety of all devotees attending the Maha Kumbh.

With these measures in place, the government hopes to restore order and ensure the well-being of millions of pilgrims participating in this spiritual gathering.
