One of the four militants was shot dead by the security forces.

The captain was rushed to a hospital with gunshot injuries but he could not survive.

A cordon and search operation had been launched in the Shivgarh Assar belt when the gun battle took place.

The terrorists were hiding and as such the captain and his men were exposed, said sources. Yet, the group of men the captain was leading retaliated swiftly gunning down one of the militants. The other three escaped after realizing that they too would be killed.

The brave captain had fired at the terrorists last night. In the morning the captain again fired at the terrorists. After this he and his men launched a search for the militants hiding in the dense forested area.

The army has offered its deepest condolence to the family of the martyred Captain Deepak Singh.

The nation will always remember this brave Indian Army officer who gave his life to defend the country and its people. It is because of such brave men that the nation and countrymen remain safe.

According to sources, the security forces managed to recover a United States-made M4 assault rifle, and three blood-soaked rucksacks, containing equipment and logistics, from the encounter site.

The incident took place while the Defence minister was chairing a high-profile meeting with the army chief and the National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval.
