Air Force Civil Engineer shot dead inside his house in official residence in Bamrauli in Prayagraj
In a shocking and tragic incident, an Indian Air Force (IAF) civil engineer, S.N. Mishra, was brutally shot dead by an unidentified assailant at his residence in the Air Force Colony, Bamrauli, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Pura Mufti police station in Prayagraj. The fatal attack took place late on Friday night, sending shockwaves throughout the area.
According to preliminary investigations, law enforcement officials suspect that the attacker may be a resident of the same colony. Initial findings suggest that the murder could be a result of personal enmity, though other possibilities have not been ruled out by the authorities.
CCTV footage from the vicinity has provided a chilling glimpse into the moments leading up to the crime. In the video, a masked individual can be seen approaching Mishra’s house with his face covered by a piece of cloth and a pistol in his hand. The attack appears to have been well-planned and executed with precision.
S.N. Mishra, aged 51, originally hailed from Rohtas in Bihar. He had been serving as a civil engineer with the Indian Air Force and was transferred to Prayagraj two years ago. During his tenure in Prayagraj, he had been residing in a house provided by the IAF within the Air Force Colony.
According to reports, the suspect arrived at Mishra’s house in the early hours of the morning and knocked on the door, presumably trying to lure him outside. Instead of opening the door, Mishra decided to check who was at the door by opening a window. It was at this moment that the attacker seized the opportunity and fired at him without hesitation. The bullet struck Mishra directly in the chest, causing him to collapse on the ground in a pool of blood.
The commotion startled Mishra’s wife, who had been asleep in an adjacent room. She woke up to find her husband gravely injured and began screaming for help. Her distress alerted neighbors and nearby Air Force personnel, who immediately rushed to the scene. An Air Force officer promptly notified the police, ensuring that authorities arrived at the location without delay.
Upon receiving the alert, a police team reached the spot and secured the crime scene. Mishra’s lifeless body was sent for a post-mortem examination to ascertain further details regarding the cause of death and the trajectory of the bullet. Law enforcement officials also sealed all CCTV footage and confiscated the hard disk from the surveillance system installed within the colony for detailed examination.
Although the suspect’s actions were captured on CCTV, the police have refrained from disclosing their identity or making any premature assumptions about the motive behind the killing. Investigators are carefully analyzing the footage to gather crucial leads that may help in identifying and apprehending the perpetrator.
Mishra, who had relocated from Sasaram, Bihar, to Prayagraj following his transfer, was shot at point-blank range through the window of his front room. The method of attack suggests that the killer had prior knowledge of the house’s layout and was aware of Mishra’s possible movements at that hour.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (City) Abhishek Bharti provided additional insights into the ongoing investigation. He revealed that a suspect was observed on CCTV scaling the boundary wall of the deceased’s residence at approximately 3 a.m. This critical detail has led the police to believe that the attack was premeditated and executed with careful planning.
“All available CCTV footage from both inside the Air Force Colony and its surrounding areas has been collected and is currently under thorough scrutiny. While personal enmity is being considered a primary motive, we are also investigating other possible angles, including any professional or personal disputes that Mishra may have been involved in,” stated DCP Bharti.
Pura Mufti police station’s Station House Officer (SHO), Manoj Kumar Singh, provided further details about the incident. He confirmed that at the time of the attack, Mishra’s wife, Vatsala Mishra, and their 16-year-old son were asleep in a room adjacent to where the shooting occurred. Mishra’s daughter, meanwhile, was not present at home, as she is currently pursuing her studies in Lucknow.
SHO Singh also emphasized that while CCTV footage had captured the suspect’s movements near Mishra’s residence, law enforcement officials are actively working to identify the individual and uncover the true motive behind this brutal crime. The police are leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of justice, and further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
