Prayagraj Family Murder Case: Accused Granted Bail but Remains in Jail as Sureties Remain Unavailable
In a significant development in the sensational Prayagraj family murder case, accused Ashwini Vaishya has been granted bail by the court.
However, despite securing legal relief, he continues to remain lodged in Kaushambi Jail because the required sureties have not yet been arranged.
Sources indicate that while the court approved his bail plea, the formal release process is still pending.
Ashwini is accused of the brutal murder of four members of his family—his father Virendra Vaishya, mother Anita, sister Meenakshi, and brother Abhishek even though he was lodged in Jail in a case of fraud at the time of the brutal killings in which his brother who is also dead is said to be allegedly involved wuth the help of his friend Sunny Gupta, who has been arrested.
The shocking killings sent shockwaves through the city and attracted widespread public attention.
Following his arrest, Ashwini has remained in judicial custody while the investigation and legal proceedings continue.
According to officials familiar with the case, once Ashwini is released, police are expected to conduct a detailed interrogation to uncover the motive behind the murders.
Investigators believe that many unanswered questions remain, and his release could provide an opportunity to gather further information about the circumstances leading up to the crime.
Sources involved in the probe claim that financial disputes and family tensions may have contributed to the tragic events.
Investigators are examining allegations that disagreements over property ownership and inheritance had created friction within the family.
Police are also looking into claims that Ashwini had harboured resentment toward certain family members for an extended period.
Authorities have reportedly found indications that strained personal relationships and ongoing domestic disagreements may have played a role in the deterioration of family ties.
Some investigators believe these conflicts could have escalated over time, eventually culminating in the horrific incident.
A key aspect of the investigation revolves around the family’s substantial wealth. Officials estimate that assets worth several crores of rupees are involved.
According to legal experts, if all immediate family members are deceased, questions regarding succession and ownership naturally arise.
However, they emphasise that inheritance laws operate independently of criminal allegations, and any transfer of property would be determined through the legal process.
Government counsel Gulab Chandra Agrahari stated that, under normal legal principles, Ashwini could be considered a potential heir to the family’s assets if he is legally recognised as a surviving successor.
However, he noted that the final determination would depend on the outcome of court proceedings and applicable succession laws.
He further explained that the presence of a criminal case does not automatically settle inheritance-related questions.
Court records show that a chargesheet was filed against Ashwini at the Kareli Police Station under various provisions, including Section 25 of the Arms Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), in connection with the murders that took place on May 25, 2024.
While the court subsequently granted him bail, the absence of eligible sureties has delayed his release from prison.
As the legal process moves forward, investigators continue to focus on the financial, personal, and familial dimensions of the case, hoping to establish a clearer picture of what led to one of Prayagraj’s most disturbing family tragedies.
