Ambedkar Jayanti 2026: Grand Processions Held Across Uttar Pradesh, Tensions Reported at Some Locations

Large-scale celebrations were held across several districts of Uttar Pradesh to mark the birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution.

In Prayagraj’s Koraon area, an 8-kilometre-long ‘Jai Bhim’ procession was organised a day ahead of Ambedkar Jayanti, drawing participation from hundreds of people.

However, incidents of vandalism, disputes over garlanding ceremonies, and clashes between groups were reported from some districts, prompting police intervention.


8-Kilometre ‘Jai Bhim’ Procession Organised in Koraon, Prayagraj

A grand ‘Jai Bhim’ procession was taken out in Koraon of Prayagraj district on Monday to commemorate Ambedkar Jayanti.

The 8-km-long procession witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large number of people, who marched with blue flags bearing the image of Dr. Ambedkar while dancing to the beats of DJ music and traditional bands.

The procession featured tableaux highlighting the contributions of prominent social reformers, freedom fighters, and leaders who promoted education, equality, and social harmony.

Tableaux depicting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Jyotiba Rao Phule, Birsa Munda, and Gautam Buddha attracted significant public attention. Children portraying historical personalities in the tableaux were also felicitated by the organisers.

Prominent attendees included procession founder Dinesh Chaudhary, organising committee president Pawan Singhal Patel, advocate Lavkush Kol, organiser Amit Jaisal, and vice-president Satyendra Pal.

Police personnel led by Koraon Station House Officer Rakesh Kumar Verma remained deployed throughout the event to ensure law and order.


Poster Vandalism and Assault Trigger Tension in Koraon

Tension was reported in the Bari Bojh area of Koraon after unidentified miscreants allegedly tore a poster of Dr. Ambedkar installed at the Ambedkar Park during preparatory activities for the celebration. According to allegations,

Dayashankar Gautam, a resident of Judapur Jhinghar who was involved in the preparations, was assaulted when he objected to the act. He sustained injuries in the incident.

Following the incident, a large number of people reached the Nawabganj police station demanding strict action against the accused. The situation remained tense for nearly two hours before police officials pacified the crowd and restored order.


Protest After Ambedkar Statue Allegedly Damaged in Motipur Village

In Motipur village under Gram Panchayat Grant No. 10, villagers organised a procession after offering floral tributes to Dr. Ambedkar.

During the event, the statue of Dr. Ambedkar was allegedly vandalised by anti-social elements, triggering protests among residents.

Villagers accused the police of negligence and staged demonstrations at the site.

A clash reportedly broke out between protesters and police, following which a mild lathi-charge was used to disperse the crowd.

Protesters alleged that women were also manhandled during the incident. Angry villagers damaged some government vehicles and staged a sit-in protest on the canal bridge, demanding the reinstallation of the statue at the same location.

 

Additional Superintendent of Police Amit Rai, Circle Officer Ramesh Tiwari, and Naib Tehsildar Bhanu Pratap Singh, along with police teams from multiple stations, reached the spot and attempted to defuse the tension.


Disputes Reported in Dadri, Meerut, Lucknow,w and Lakhimpur Kheri

Incidents related to Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations were also reported from other districts in Uttar Pradesh.

In Dadri, a grand procession passed through Railway Road and GT Road featuring decorated tableaux, camels, horses, elephants, es and DJ performances.

Floral tributes were offered at the statue of Dr. Ambedkar near Kotwali Gate in the presence of political leaders and local representatives.

In Meerut’s Jagriti Vihar area, controversy erupted after members of the Dalit community were allegedly prevented from organising Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations in a public park.

In protest, women celebrated at the residence of a BJP leader.

In Lucknow’s Banthra area, a dispute over the sequence of garlanding the statue escalated into violence involving physical assaults, ultimately, and alleged aerial firing.

Three individuals sustained injuries in the clash. Police later recovered two .32 bore cartridges from the spot. The disagreement reportedly began over whether garlanding should take place before or after the Buddhist prayer ceremony.

Similarly, in the Mailani police station area of Lakhimpur Kheri, villagers staged a road blockade after an Ambedkar statue was allegedly damaged. The protest disrupted traffic for several hours.


Police on Alert, Security Tightened in Sensitive Areas

Following the incidents, police forces have been deployed in sensitive locations across districts to prevent further escalation.

Authorities stated that surveillance has been intensified, and strict action will be taken against those found responsible for disturbing public order.

Officials have appealed to citizens to maintain peace and harmony during Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations so that the events can be conducted in a dignified and peaceful manner.
