BRICS Summit 2026: Delhi Prepares for Expanded Bloc as Modi Set to Host Global Leaders
Bharat Mandapam to welcome leaders of 11-member BRICS grouping; business forum, China delegation and heightened security add to the diplomatic significance
NEW DELHI: New Delhi is preparing for a major diplomatic gathering as Prime Minister Narendra Modi gets ready to host the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit at Bharat Mandapam on September 12 and 13.
The meeting comes as India holds the BRICS chair and brings together the grouping’s expanded membership along with partner nations and outreach invitees.
The leaders of the 11 full BRICS members will take part in the principal programme on Saturday, September 12.
Representatives of partner countries and other invited nations are scheduled to join the summit proceedings the following day.
The expanded BRICS table now includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has confirmed his participation.
Among the leaders expected at the summit are Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.
The UAE will be represented by Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, while Brazil’s Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira is also expected to attend.
The summit agenda is set to stretch beyond traditional diplomatic concerns, with discussions expected to encompass multilateralism, commerce and investment, energy and food security, resilient supply chains and reform of global governance institutions.
The deliberations will seek to give direction to the expanded grouping as it adjusts to a broader membership.
Business diplomacy takes centre stage before leaders meet
The diplomatic calendar will begin even before the leaders assemble. Modi is scheduled to address the BRICS Business Forum in New Delhi on Friday, September 11, bringing senior corporate figures from across the grouping into the summit’s opening phase.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar are expected to speak during the forum’s opening session.
Discussions will range from agriculture and international trade to investment, supply-chain cooperation and the rapidly expanding digital economy.
The business gathering is expected to culminate in a leaders’ session that will be addressed by Modi, creating a bridge between private-sector priorities and the broader agenda of the BRICS summit.
Major Chinese corporate delegation heads to India
China is expected to have a particularly strong corporate presence at the business forum, with a sizeable delegation travelling to India ahead of the summit.
The Chinese contingent is expected to include prominent executives such as CNPC Chairman Houliang Dai, ICBC Chairman Lin Liao and China COSCO Shipping Corporation Chairman Min Wan.
Senior representatives of Huawei Technologies and Alibaba Group are also expected to participate.
Trade and investment are likely to feature prominently in the discussions, alongside technology and supply-chain cooperation.
The presence of leading Chinese companies adds an important commercial dimension to a summit taking place against the backdrop of broader efforts to deepen economic engagement among BRICS economies.
Companies from other member countries will also bring heavyweight representation.
Among those expected are Embraer President and CEO Francisco Gomes Neto, Vale CEO Gustavo Pimenta, Naspers CEO Phuthi Mahanyele-Dabengwa, Russian Railways CEO and Chairman Oleg Belozerov, and Sberbank First Deputy Chairman Alexander Vedyakhin.
Their presence reflects the breadth of sectors represented at the forum, spanning energy, financial services, technology, shipping, aviation and mining.
Partner nations and UN chief among key invitees
The summit’s wider outreach programme is expected to feature leaders from a range of BRICS partner and invited countries.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul are among those listed for participation.
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Ugandan Vice-President Jessica Alupo are also expected to attend.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres is another prominent participant on the summit’s invitee list.
The broader attendance underlines the effort to use the BRICS platform as a forum extending beyond its 11 full members and engaging a wider circle of emerging and developing economies.
Delhi steps up security ahead of high-profile gathering
With several heads of government, senior officials and prominent business leaders converging on the capital, security arrangements have been substantially strengthened.
Thousands of personnel are being deployed across key locations, including airports, hotels and the Bharat Mandapam complex.
The extensive security apparatus is intended to manage the movement of high-profile delegations while ensuring that the two-day summit and associated events proceed smoothly.
From four founding economies to an expanded global grouping
BRICS began in 2006 with Brazil, Russia, India and China forming the original grouping. South Africa joined four years later, broadening the bloc’s representation.
The organisation underwent another major expansion in 2024, when Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the UAE became members.
Indonesia subsequently joined as a full member, taking the grouping to its present 11-member configuration.
The New Delhi summit will therefore be among the first major occasions for the enlarged BRICS framework to demonstrate how its expanded membership can translate into deeper cooperation on trade, investment, energy, food security and global economic governance.

नई दिल्ली: राजधानी दिल्ली 12 और 13 सितंबर को एक बड़े अंतरराष्ट्रीय कूटनीतिक आयोजन की मेजबानी के लिए तैयार है।
प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी भारत मंडपम में 18वें ब्रिक्स शिखर सम्मेलन की अगवानी करेंगे।
इस वर्ष ब्रिक्स की अध्यक्षता भारत के पास है और सम्मेलन में विस्तारित समूह के सदस्य देशों के साथ साझेदार तथा आमंत्रित देशों के प्रतिनिधि भी हिस्सा लेंगे।
शिखर सम्मेलन का मुख्य कार्यक्रम शनिवार, 12 सितंबर को ब्रिक्स के 11 पूर्ण सदस्य देशों के नेताओं की मौजूदगी में शुरू होगा।
इसके बाद रविवार, 13 सितंबर को साझेदार देशों तथा आउटरीच के तहत आमंत्रित प्रतिनिधियों की भागीदारी के साथ कार्यक्रम आगे बढ़ेगा।
वर्तमान में ब्रिक्स के 11 पूर्ण सदस्य ब्राजील, रूस, भारत, चीन, दक्षिण अफ्रीका, मिस्र, इथियोपिया, इंडोनेशिया, ईरान, सऊदी अरब और संयुक्त अरब अमीरात हैं। दक्षिण अफ्रीका के राष्ट्रपति सिरिल रामाफोसा ने सम्मेलन में शामिल होने की पुष्टि कर दी है।
सम्मेलन में चीन के राष्ट्रपति शी जिनपिंग, रूस के राष्ट्रपति व्लादिमीर पुतिन, ईरान के राष्ट्रपति मसूद पेजेशकियन, मिस्र के राष्ट्रपति अब्देल फतह अल-सीसी, इथियोपिया के प्रधानमंत्री अबिय अहमद और इंडोनेशिया के राष्ट्रपति प्रबोवो सुबियांतो सहित कई प्रमुख नेता शामिल होने वाले हैं।
संयुक्त अरब अमीरात की ओर से अबू धाबी के क्राउन प्रिंस शेख खालिद बिन मोहम्मद बिन जायद अल नाहयान और ब्राजील की ओर से विदेश मंत्री माउरो विएरा के शामिल होने की उम्मीद है।
वैश्विक अर्थव्यवस्था से जुड़े मुद्दों पर होगी व्यापक चर्चा
नई दिल्ली में होने वाली उच्चस्तरीय बैठक का एजेंडा कई महत्वपूर्ण वैश्विक विषयों को समेटेगा। बहुपक्षवाद, व्यापार और निवेश, ऊर्जा एवं खाद्य सुरक्षा, आपूर्ति श्रृंखलाओं को मजबूत करना तथा वैश्विक शासन व्यवस्था जैसे मुद्दे चर्चा के केंद्र में रहेंगे।
ब्रिक्स के विस्तार के बाद समूह का दायरा पहले की तुलना में काफी व्यापक हो गया है। ऐसे में भारत की अध्यक्षता में होने वाली बैठक से सदस्य देशों के बीच आर्थिक सहयोग और साझा प्राथमिकताओं को आगे बढ़ाने पर विशेष ध्यान रहने की उम्मीद है।
शिखर सम्मेलन से पहले कारोबारियों का बड़ा जमावड़ा
नेताओं की बैठक से पहले ही राजधानी में आर्थिक कूटनीति का सिलसिला शुरू हो जाएगा। प्रधानमंत्री मोदी शुक्रवार, 11 सितंबर को नई दिल्ली में आयोजित ब्रिक्स बिजनेस फोरम को संबोधित करेंगे। इसमें ब्रिक्स देशों के प्रमुख उद्योगपति और कारोबारी प्रतिनिधि हिस्सा लेने वाले हैं।
वाणिज्य एवं उद्योग मंत्री पीयूष गोयल और विदेश मंत्री एस जयशंकर से भी फोरम के उद्घाटन सत्र को संबोधित करने की उम्मीद है। बैठक में कृषि, व्यापार, निवेश, आपूर्ति श्रृंखला और डिजिटल अर्थव्यवस्था जैसे क्षेत्रों पर विचार-विमर्श किया जाएगा।
इसके बाद कारोबारियों की चर्चाएं एक ऐसे सत्र की ओर बढ़ेंगी, जिसे प्रधानमंत्री मोदी संबोधित करेंगे। इससे सरकारी नीतियों और कारोबारी जगत की प्राथमिकताओं के बीच सहयोग की संभावनाओं को आगे बढ़ाने का अवसर मिलेगा।
चीन से बड़ा कारोबारी प्रतिनिधिमंडल भारत पहुंचा
ब्रिक्स बिजनेस फोरम में चीन की ओर से भी मजबूत कारोबारी भागीदारी देखने को मिल सकती है। शिखर सम्मेलन से पहले चीन का एक बड़ा व्यावसायिक प्रतिनिधिमंडल भारत का दौरा कर रहा है।
इस प्रतिनिधिमंडल में CNPC के चेयरमैन होउलियांग दाई, ICBC के चेयरमैन लिन लियाओ और चीन COSCO शिपिंग कॉरपोरेशन के चेयरमैन मिन वान जैसे प्रमुख कारोबारी शामिल होने की उम्मीद है। Huawei Technologies और Alibaba Group के वरिष्ठ अधिकारी भी फोरम में भाग ले सकते हैं।
भारतीय और अन्य ब्रिक्स देशों के कारोबारियों के साथ चीन का प्रतिनिधिमंडल व्यापार, निवेश, तकनीक और आपूर्ति श्रृंखला से जुड़े अवसरों पर चर्चा कर सकता है। इससे शिखर सम्मेलन के राजनीतिक एजेंडे के साथ आर्थिक सहयोग का पक्ष भी प्रमुखता से उभर सकता है।
अन्य ब्रिक्स देशों की कंपनियों की भी बड़ी भागीदारी
फोरम में केवल चीन ही नहीं, बल्कि दूसरे सदस्य देशों की प्रमुख कंपनियों के शीर्ष अधिकारी भी पहुंचेंगे। Embraer के अध्यक्ष एवं CEO फ्रांसिस्को गोम्स नेटो, Vale के CEO गुस्तावो पिमेंटा, Naspers की CEO फूथी महन्येले-दबेंगवा, Russian Railways के CEO एवं चेयरमैन ओलेग बेलोजेरोव और Sberbank के प्रथम उपाध्यक्ष अलेक्जेंडर वेद्याखिन के शामिल होने की उम्मीद है।
प्रतिनिधित्व करने वाली कंपनियां ऊर्जा, बैंकिंग, प्रौद्योगिकी, समुद्री परिवहन, विमानन और खनन जैसे अलग-अलग क्षेत्रों से जुड़ी हैं। इससे बिजनेस फोरम को ब्रिक्स देशों के बीच बहु-क्षेत्रीय आर्थिक सहयोग के लिए महत्वपूर्ण मंच के रूप में देखा जा रहा है।
साझेदार देशों और संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासचिव की भी मौजूदगी
ब्रिक्स के पूर्ण सदस्यों के अतिरिक्त साझेदार और आमंत्रित देशों के कई शीर्ष नेता भी दिल्ली पहुंचेंगे। बेलारूस के राष्ट्रपति अलेक्जेंडर लुकाशेंको, कजाखस्तान के राष्ट्रपति कासिम-जोमार्ट तोकायेव, मलेशिया के प्रधानमंत्री अनवर इब्राहिम और थाईलैंड के प्रधानमंत्री अनुतिन चार्नविराकुल इनमें शामिल हैं।
क्यूबा के राष्ट्रपति मिगेल डियाज-कानेल, नाइजीरिया के राष्ट्रपति बोला अहमद टिनुबू, उज्बेकिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति शवकत मिर्जियोयेव और युगांडा की उपराष्ट्रपति जेसिका अलुपो के भी सम्मेलन में पहुंचने की उम्मीद है। संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासचिव एंतोनियो गुतारेस भी प्रमुख आमंत्रितों में शामिल हैं।
विस्तारित भागीदारी यह संकेत देती है कि ब्रिक्स अब केवल अपने पूर्ण सदस्य देशों के बीच संवाद तक सीमित मंच नहीं रह गया है, बल्कि विकासशील और उभरती अर्थव्यवस्थाओं के साथ व्यापक सहयोग का माध्यम भी बन रहा है।
दिल्ली में सुरक्षा व्यवस्था कड़ी
उच्चस्तरीय विदेशी प्रतिनिधिमंडलों और प्रमुख कारोबारी हस्तियों के आगमन को देखते हुए राजधानी में व्यापक सुरक्षा प्रबंध किए गए हैं।
हवाई अड्डों, प्रमुख होटलों और भारत मंडपम सहित महत्वपूर्ण स्थानों पर हजारों सुरक्षाकर्मियों की तैनाती की जा रही है।
सुरक्षा व्यवस्था का उद्देश्य विदेशी नेताओं और प्रतिनिधिमंडलों की आवाजाही को सुचारु बनाए रखना तथा दो दिवसीय शिखर सम्मेलन और उससे जुड़े कार्यक्रमों को सुरक्षित वातावरण में संपन्न कराना है।
चार देशों से शुरू हुआ ब्रिक्स अब 11 सदस्यीय समूह
ब्रिक्स की शुरुआत वर्ष 2006 में ब्राजील, रूस, भारत और चीन के साथ हुई थी। वर्ष 2010 में दक्षिण अफ्रीका के शामिल होने से समूह का विस्तार हुआ।
इसके बाद वर्ष 2024 में मिस्र, इथियोपिया, ईरान और संयुक्त अरब अमीरात इसके सदस्य बने। बाद में इंडोनेशिया के पूर्ण सदस्य बनने के साथ ब्रिक्स की सदस्य संख्या 11 हो गई।
नई दिल्ली में होने वाला यह सम्मेलन विस्तारित ब्रिक्स के लिए महत्वपूर्ण अवसर होगा।
भारत की अध्यक्षता में आयोजित बैठक में समूह के बढ़े हुए दायरे को व्यापार, निवेश, ऊर्जा, खाद्य सुरक्षा और वैश्विक आर्थिक व्यवस्था जैसे क्षेत्रों में ठोस सहयोग में बदलने की दिशा पर विशेष नजर रहेगी।
