CBI Intensifies Probe Into Twisha Sharma Death Case; Retired Judge Giribala Singh and Husband Remanded for Further Questioning

The investigation into the death of actress-model Twisha Sharma has gathered pace, with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) producing her husband, Samrat Singh, and mother-in-law, retired judge Giribala Singh, before a special court on Friday.

Seeking additional time to interrogate the duo, the agency requested a five-day custody remand. As the defence did not object to the plea, Special Court Judge Shobhana Bhalave approved the request.

Samrat Singh, who was already in CBI custody under a seven-day remand, will now remain with investigators for an additional five days.

During this period, officials plan to conduct joint questioning of both accused to compare statements and clarify inconsistencies.

Investigators are also expected to question Samrat about his whereabouts while he was absconding and whether anyone helped him evade authorities.

The CBI has accused Giribala Singh of attempting to tamper with evidence linked to the case. She was arrested on Thursday following nearly seven hours of intensive questioning at her residence.

The agency had officially registered an FIR in the matter on the night of May 25, marking a significant step in the investigation.

According to sources, the CBI is adopting an advanced “tunnel-view” investigative approach to reconstruct the final hours leading up to Twisha Sharma’s death.

Investigators are creating a detailed virtual timeline that will map events minute by minute, helping them analyse activities before and after the incident and identify any discrepancies in witness accounts.

Digital Evidence Under Scrutiny

The agency is placing strong emphasis on digital forensics as it attempts to uncover the truth behind the case.

On May 28, a CBI team arrived at Giribala Singh’s residence around 10:30 a.m. and questioned her extensively before making the arrest later that evening.

Since formally taking over the case, investigators have spent several days examining evidence and verifying the crime scene.

During these inspections, officials reportedly discovered indicators that reinforced suspicions of possible evidence manipulation after Twisha’s death.

The CBI is now examining a wide range of digital records, including call detail records (CDRs), mobile tower locations, internet activity, and communication logs. Investigators are trying to establish who was contacted on the night of the incident and whether any alterations were made at the scene afterwards.

To build a clearer picture, forensic experts are reconstructing Twisha’s movements inside the family’s three-storey residence.

CCTV footage, mobile phone data, Wi-Fi activity, call records, and room-by-room forensic mapping are being analysed together to determine her exact movements and interactions before the tragedy occurred.

As part of this process, investigators are reportedly creating a digital avatar of Twisha.

This virtual reconstruction is expected to help determine where she was at various points in the house, who entered or exited specific rooms, and what activities occurred during crucial moments leading up to the incident.

By synchronising CCTV timestamps with mobile phone activity and internet usage records, investigators aim to create a simulated walkthrough of the events. Officials believe this exercise could expose gaps in the timeline, suspicious activity, and contradictions in statements from witnesses.

Allegations Surrounding ₹20 Lakh Share Investments

The investigation has also uncovered financial aspects that may have played a role in the case. According to findings so far, Twisha Sharma owned shares in multiple companies valued at approximately ₹20 lakh.

Investigators are examining allegations that her husband, Samrat Singh, and mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, pressured her to transfer these investments into their names.

Twisha’s lawyer, Ankur Pandey, has stated that the shares were worth around ₹20 lakh at the time of her marriage.

The probe has revealed that Twisha travelled to Vietnam after getting married. Authorities suspect that upon her return, her husband and mother-in-law became aware of the investments held in her name.

Investigators are also looking into claims that Twisha had informed her mother over phone calls that she was subjected to physical abuse over dowry demands and mental harassment related to family planning and childbirth issues.

Court Proceedings and Key Developments

On May 29, both Giribala Singh and Samrat Singh were brought before the court by CBI officials. The agency argued that custodial interrogation was necessary to conduct face-to-face questioning and gather crucial information.

The accused arrived at the court in separate vehicles. Arguments regarding the remand request were heard before Judge Shobhana Bhalave, while several lawyers appeared on behalf of the defence.

Before being presented in court, Samrat Singh underwent a medical examination at JP Hospital. Giribala Singh’s medical assessment was reportedly conducted within the MANIT campus premises.

Observers present in court noted that both accused appeared calm and were seen speaking to each other while standing in the same dock. Neither appeared visibly distressed during the proceedings.

Investigation May Expand Further

Twisha Sharma died under suspicious circumstances at her in-laws’ home in Bhopal on the night of May 12. The case was initially investigated by the Bhopal Police, but concerns raised by her family regarding the fairness of the probe led to growing public scrutiny.

Following widespread attention and demands for an independent inquiry, the investigation was handed over to the CBI. Since then, the agency has intensified efforts to uncover the circumstances surrounding her death.

With the arrest of Giribala Singh, investigators are expected to widen the scope of the probe.

Family members, household staff, and others who were in contact with the family after the incident are likely to be questioned as officials continue to piece together the events leading up to Twisha Sharma’s death.
