With this narrative, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who launched a sharp political attack on the Samajwadi Party and Congress while addressing a programme held to mark the 135th birth anniversary of Dr B.R. Ambedkar.
Speaking at the Dr Ambedkar Mahasabha office complex on Tuesday, the Chief Minister accused both parties of historically disrespecting and sidelining the architect of the Indian Constitution.
Referring to past incidents, the Chief Minister alleged that the Samajwadi Party had once exposed its “true character” through the mistreatment of women at the State Guest House.
He also claimed that the Congress had attempted to prevent Dr Ambedkar from succeeding electorally and had even conspired to deny him the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour.
During the event, the Chief Minister released a commemorative publication and virtually inaugurated the beautification and conservation work of 75 statues of Dr Ambedkar installed across all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh.
Earlier in the day, he paid floral tribute at Dr Ambedkar’s statue located at Hazratganj intersection, offering his respects to the social reformer and visionary leader.
Addressing the gathering, Yogi Adityanath questioned political opponents whom he accused of “shedding crocodile tears” in the name of Dalit welfare.
He challenged them to clarify what concrete contributions they had made in Dr Ambedkar’s name or what inspiration they had truly drawn from his ideals.
He also criticised those leaders who, according to him, had once threatened to demolish memorials dedicated to Dalit icons after coming to power.
The Chief Minister highlighted several initiatives taken by the state government to honour social reformers and promote inclusive development.
These included projects linked to Sant Ravidas, as well as the ongoing development of the Dr B.R. Ambedkar International Cultural and Research Centre.
He also mentioned that 4,356 landless individuals in Lakhimpur, who had been awaiting ownership rights for over 55 years, were finally granted land titles under the current government.
Emphasising Dr Ambedkar’s enduring legacy, the Chief Minister said that Babasaheb’s life was devoted to building an “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” (One India, Great India), ensuring justice and dignity for Dalits, the underprivileged, and the poor.
He stated that whenever the marginalised sections of society seek justice, the guiding light they see is the vision and principles laid down by Dr Ambedkar.
He also remarked that certain groups, driven by political interests, are now attempting to appropriate Dr Ambedkar’s legacy without genuinely following his ideals.
According to the Chief Minister, the true tribute to Babasaheb lies not in symbolic gestures but in sincere efforts to uphold equality, justice, and social empowerment.
