Five Years After Wife’s Murder, Bhojpuri Filmmaker and Actress Convicted Alongside Him Get Life Imprisonment
FATEHPUR: The future of a six-year-old boy figured prominently in a Fatehpur court’s sentencing decision on Friday, when two people convicted in the killing of his mother were ordered to spend the rest of their lives in prison.
The convicts are 30-year-old Bhojpuri filmmaker Indra Mohan Lodhi and 24-year-old Neha Verma, an actress and singer who was allegedly involved in a relationship with him.
They were held responsible for the December 2021 killing of Indra Mohan’s wife, Yogmaya Lodhi.
Beyond awarding life sentences, the court directed that the financial penalties recovered from the two convicts be used for the benefit of the child, who lost his mother when he was barely two years old.
Additional District Government Counsel Ravi Datt Dwivedi said each convict had been ordered to pay Rs 50,000. The combined amount of Rs 1 lakh is to be transferred to the boy’s bank account.
The court also recognised that this amount would do little to address the long-term consequences of losing a parent during childhood.
It therefore recommended that the state government provide further financial assistance.
The Fatehpur District Legal Services Authority has been asked to take the necessary steps to secure adequate compensation for the child.
The sentencing follows the court’s October 30 decision finding both accused guilty. They had been taken into custody after the conviction and returned to court on Friday for the final order on punishment.
Family disputes preceded the killing
The prosecution case emerged from a complaint filed by Yogmaya’s brother, Satya Prakash, who approached Khaga police station after his sister was found murdered.
According to his complaint, the marriage between Yogmaya and Indra Mohan took place on February 10, 2015.
Her family had spent considerably on the wedding, but the complainant alleged that financial demands from her husband’s side did not end after the marriage.
He accused Indra Mohan of repeatedly pressuring Yogmaya to bring additional money and other benefits from her parental family.
Satya Prakash told investigators that his sister often returned to her parents’ home in distress. She allegedly described the difficulties she faced in her matrimonial home and broke down while speaking about the continuing demands.
Her relatives tried to intervene, hoping that discussions with Indra Mohan would improve the situation. According to the complaint, those efforts failed to bring an end to the alleged harassment.
The family subsequently learnt about Indra Mohan’s association with Neha Verma, a woman from Maharajganj district.
The complainant alleged that what began as a professional connection through the Bhojpuri film industry developed into a personal relationship.
A relationship formed through filmmaking
Neha’s association with Indra Mohan was also discussed during the proceedings.
Defence lawyer Arjun Singh said his client had first noticed her acting in a short film and later offered her a part in one of his productions.
He described Neha as someone involved in both acting and singing. According to the defence, she was staying at Indra Mohan’s residence because she had been selected for a film that was being shot in his village.
The defence has maintained that it intends to contest the trial court’s decision. Arjun Singh said an appeal would be filed before a higher court.
December 2021 killing led to criminal proceedings
The murder took place at the family’s residence in Gulariyapur village. Yogmaya, aged 25, was found with a fatal cut to her throat in December 2021.
In his police complaint, her brother alleged that Indra Mohan attacked her with a sharp weapon on the night of December 25, 2021. He named both Indra Mohan and Neha as responsible for the crime.
Police arrested the two suspects within days of the incident and sent them to jail as the investigation and subsequent legal proceedings moved forward.
The case eventually reached its conclusion at the trial court, which found both accused guilty on October 30 and imposed life imprisonment on Friday.
The decision to recommend additional state assistance for the boy gives the verdict a significant welfare dimension.
The court’s concern extends beyond the punishment of those convicted to the circumstances of a child who must now grow up without his mother.

फतेहपुर: मां की हत्या के बाद छह वर्षीय बच्चे के भविष्य को ध्यान में रखते हुए फतेहपुर की अदालत ने एक महत्वपूर्ण निर्देश दिया है।
अदालत ने उसकी मां योगमाया लोधी की हत्या के मामले में दोषी ठहराए गए दो लोगों को उम्रकैद की सजा सुनाने के साथ यह भी कहा कि जुर्माने की रकम बच्चे के खाते में जमा कराई जाए।
उसके पालन-पोषण और भविष्य की जरूरतों के लिए राज्य सरकार से अतिरिक्त आर्थिक मदद देने की सिफारिश भी की गई है।
सजा पाने वालों में भोजपुरी शॉर्ट फिल्म निर्माता इंद्र मोहन लोधी (30) और अभिनेत्री एवं गायिका नेहा वर्मा (24) शामिल हैं। नेहा को इंद्र मोहन की कथित प्रेमिका बताया गया है। दोनों को दिसंबर 2021 में इंद्र मोहन की पत्नी योगमाया की हत्या के मामले में दोषी पाया गया था।
अपर जिला शासकीय अधिवक्ता रवि दत्त द्विवेदी के अनुसार, अदालत ने दोनों पर 50-50 हजार रुपये का जुर्माना लगाया है। इस प्रकार वसूली जाने वाली एक लाख रुपये की कुल राशि योगमाया के छह वर्षीय बेटे के बैंक खाते में जमा कराई जाएगी।
अदालत ने माना कि मां को खोने से बच्चे को हुई क्षति की भरपाई किसी आर्थिक सहायता से नहीं हो सकती। फिर भी उसके भविष्य को देखते हुए केवल जुर्माने की रकम पर्याप्त नहीं होगी।
इसी आधार पर उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार से अतिरिक्त मुआवजा देने की सिफारिश की गई है। जिला विधिक सेवा प्राधिकरण, फतेहपुर के सचिव को इस संबंध में आवश्यक कार्रवाई करने को कहा गया है।
अदालत ने 30 अक्टूबर को दोनों आरोपियों को दोषी ठहराया था। दोषसिद्धि के बाद उन्हें हिरासत में ले लिया गया था। शुक्रवार को सजा निर्धारित करने के लिए उन्हें फिर अदालत में पेश किया गया, जहां आजीवन कारावास का आदेश सुनाया गया।
पारिवारिक तनाव से शुरू हुई थी शिकायत
इस मामले में पुलिस तक शिकायत योगमाया के भाई सत्य प्रकाश के माध्यम से पहुंची थी। उन्होंने खागा थाने में अपनी बहन की हत्या का आरोप लगाते हुए इंद्र मोहन और नेहा के खिलाफ कार्रवाई की मांग की थी।
शिकायत के मुताबिक, योगमाया और इंद्र मोहन का विवाह 10 फरवरी 2015 को हुआ था। शादी में मायके वालों ने काफी खर्च किया था। सत्य प्रकाश का आरोप था कि विवाह के बाद भी इंद्र मोहन की ओर से अतिरिक्त धन और सामान की मांग की जाती रही।
उन्होंने पुलिस को बताया था कि उनकी बहन जब भी मायके आती थी, तो ससुराल में होने वाली परेशानियों का जिक्र करके भावुक हो जाती थी। परिवार के सामने वह कथित आर्थिक दबाव और प्रताड़ना की बातें बताती थी।
परिजनों ने कई बार बातचीत के जरिए स्थिति सुधारने का प्रयास किया। उन्हें उम्मीद थी कि इंद्र मोहन को समझाने के बाद योगमाया की परेशानी कम हो जाएगी। लेकिन शिकायतकर्ता के अनुसार, इन प्रयासों का कोई स्थायी परिणाम नहीं निकला।
इसी दौरान परिवार को इंद्र मोहन और महाराजगंज की रहने वाली नेहा वर्मा के बीच नजदीकी संबंधों की जानकारी मिली। सत्य प्रकाश ने आरोप लगाया था कि भोजपुरी फिल्म उद्योग में काम के दौरान दोनों की पहचान हुई और बाद में यह परिचय निजी संबंधों में बदल गया।
फिल्मी दुनिया के जरिए हुई थी पहचान
अदालत में बचाव पक्ष ने नेहा और इंद्र मोहन के परिचय का अलग विवरण दिया। उनके वकील अर्जुन सिंह के अनुसार, इंद्र मोहन ने नेहा को एक शॉर्ट फिल्म में अभिनय करते देखा था। इसके बाद उसने अपनी अगली फिल्म में उसे भूमिका देने की पेशकश की थी।
बचाव पक्ष ने बताया कि नेहा अभिनय के अलावा गायन से भी जुड़ी हुई थी। जिस समय घटना हुई, इंद्र मोहन अपने गांव में एक फिल्म की शूटिंग कर रहा था और नेहा को उसमें काम करने के लिए चुना गया था। इसी वजह से वह उसके घर पर ठहरी हुई थी।
बचाव पक्ष ने अदालत के फैसले को चुनौती देने का निर्णय लिया है। अधिवक्ता अर्जुन सिंह ने कहा कि दोषसिद्धि के खिलाफ उच्च न्यायालय में अपील दाखिल की जाएगी।
दिसंबर 2021 की वारदात के बाद शुरू हुई थी कानूनी कार्रवाई
फतेहपुर के गुलरियापुर गांव स्थित ससुराल में योगमाया की हत्या हुई थी। दिसंबर 2021 में 25 वर्षीय महिला का शव गले पर धारदार हथियार के घाव के साथ मिला था।
उसके भाई सत्य प्रकाश ने पुलिस को दी गई शिकायत में आरोप लगाया था कि 25 दिसंबर की रात इंद्र मोहन ने धारदार हथियार से हमला कर उसकी बहन की जान ले ली। शिकायत में नेहा को भी इस अपराध में शामिल बताया गया था।
पुलिस ने घटना के कुछ दिनों बाद दोनों को गिरफ्तार कर लिया था। इसके बाद मामला जांच और न्यायिक सुनवाई के दौर से गुजरा।
अंततः 30 अक्टूबर को अदालत ने दोनों को हत्या का दोषी घोषित किया और शुक्रवार को उन्हें उम्रकैद की सजा सुनाई।
इस फैसले का एक महत्वपूर्ण पहलू उस बच्चे के भविष्य को लेकर अदालत की चिंता है, जिसने बेहद कम उम्र में अपनी मां को खो दिया। दोषियों को दंडित करने के साथ अदालत ने यह भी सुनिश्चित करने की कोशिश की है कि बच्चे के पालन-पोषण और शिक्षा के लिए आर्थिक सहायता का इंतजाम हो सके।
