Gurgaon Double Murder: Security Officer Arrested for Allegedly Killing Wife and Son After Heated Family Dispute
A shocking case of domestic violence turned fatal in Gurgaon when a 56-year-old security officer was arrested for allegedly shooting his wife and son to death with his licensed revolver following a heated argument at their home in Ashok Vihar Phase 3.
The incident has left the local community stunned and raised fresh concerns about escalating family disputes turning into violent crimes.
According to police officials, the tragedy unfolded late on Saturday night at around 11 pm.
The accused, identified as Anil Tanwar, was taken into custody on Sunday.
He was subsequently produced before a Gurgaon court, which remanded him to two days of police custody for further questioning as investigators work to establish the exact sequence of events leading up to the killings.
The victims were identified as 52-year-old Asha Rani and her 27-year-old son, Prashant. Asha Rani was a respected educator who owned and served as principal of a private school in Carterpuri.
Her son actively assisted her in the administration and day-to-day management of the institution.
Their sudden deaths have sent shockwaves through both the family and the educational community associated with the school.
Police said the criminal case was registered at Sector 5 police station based on a complaint lodged by Tanwar’s daughter, who had been visiting her parental home at the time of the incident.
In her statement, she recounted the disturbing events that unfolded inside the house on the night of the shooting.
According to the complaint, the couple had gone to the third floor of their residence to retire for the night, while the daughter, her brother Prashant, and her sister-in-law were staying on the first floor.
Shortly afterwards, family members reportedly heard a loud argument between the husband and wife.
Concerned by the escalating confrontation, the daughter went upstairs and allegedly witnessed her father physically assaulting her mother.
Hearing the commotion, Prashant rushed to the third floor in an attempt to calm the situation and protect his mother.
Police officials said that instead of defusing the conflict, his intervention allegedly enraged Tanwar further.
Investigators claim that in a fit of anger, he retrieved his licensed revolver and opened fire on both his wife and son.
Gurgaon Police spokesperson ASI Sandeep Kumar stated that the daughter and her sister-in-law tried to step in and stop the violence.
However, they were forced to run downstairs in fear after the accused allegedly continued firing multiple rounds.
Once the gunfire stopped and Tanwar left the floor, the women returned and found Asha Rani and Prashant lying critically injured with multiple bullet wounds.
The victims were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital in a desperate effort to save their lives.
However, doctors declared both of them dead upon arrival. The devastating loss has left the family shattered and prompted an extensive police investigation.
Investigators revealed that the family had reportedly been dealing with long-standing domestic tensions and recurring disputes.
To gather evidence and reconstruct the crime scene, forensic experts and fingerprint specialists were deployed to the residence shortly after the incident was reported.
Police have recovered the licensed revolver allegedly used in the shooting, along with 14 spent cartridges from the scene.
Preliminary findings suggest that Prashant sustained five to six gunshot wounds across different parts of his body, while Asha Rani was struck by three to four bullets.
Authorities are awaiting the post-mortem examination report, which is expected to provide further details regarding the nature and extent of the injuries.
Inspector Satyawan, Station House Officer of Sector 5 police station, said investigators are examining all aspects of the case, including the family’s history of disputes and the events that immediately preceded the shooting.
Police officials have confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing, and additional evidence is being collected to strengthen the case against the accused.
