IAF Wing Commander Arrested Over Alleged Pakistan-Linked Espionage, Charge Sheet Filed
Serving officer allegedly honey-trapped through social media and accused of sharing sensitive defence information; Delhi Police files charge sheet
A serving Indian Air Force Wing Commander was arrested on May 30 for allegedly sharing sensitive defence-related information and classified documents with a woman suspected of working for Pakistani intelligence, Delhi Police said on Saturday.
The 44-year-old officer allegedly came in contact with the woman through social media earlier this year.
Investigators suspect that she gained his confidence and subsequently persuaded him to transmit confidential material relating to India’s defence system through photographs and videos.
The officer’s identity has not been disclosed. Police said the case came to light following a complaint from the Indian Air Force and that a charge sheet was filed before the competent court on July 30.
The matter is currently sub judice.
“Based upon a complaint by Indian Airforce authorities, a serving Airforce officer was arrested on May 30 for allegations of being honey-trapped by a Pakistani Intelligence Operative,” Delhi Police said in a statement.
According to officials familiar with the investigation, the officer was under surveillance before being handed over to law-enforcement authorities.
A case was subsequently registered at the Delhi Police Special Cell under applicable provisions of the Official Secrets Act.
The officer was questioned jointly by the Special Cell and central intelligence agencies before being produced before a city court.
He was remanded in judicial custody in June and is currently lodged in Tihar Jail, officials said.
Woman allegedly gained officer’s trust
Investigators suspect the officer, who was reportedly experiencing difficulties in his personal life, was approached by the woman on a social-media platform.
The two allegedly exchanged messages and spoke over the phone using a secure communications application.
After establishing contact, the woman allegedly induced the officer to share restricted defence information.
Investigators have alleged that photographs and videos containing sensitive material were among the information transmitted.
Police are also examining an alleged instruction given to the officer to install an application on a colleague’s mobile phone.
Investigators suspect the application may have functioned as spyware or remote-access malware capable of extracting data from the device and monitoring its location.
IAF intelligence alerted police
The alleged espionage activity was reportedly detected by the Indian Air Force’s intelligence wing through electronic surveillance.
The intelligence unit subsequently passed information and supporting evidence to the Delhi Police Special Cell, following which the officer was taken into custody for further investigation.
The Special Cell’s investigation allegedly found indications that the woman who established contact with the Wing Commander may have been operating on behalf of handlers based in Pakistan.
Investigators are also examining whether she was part of a wider espionage network collecting information concerning India’s defence establishment.
The IAF said the officer had remained under active surveillance before being transferred to the appropriate law-enforcement authorities.
The police have not publicly identified the suspected Pakistani operative or disclosed the precise nature of the classified material allegedly shared by the officer.
With the charge sheet now before the court, the allegations will be subject to judicial scrutiny.

भारतीय वायुसेना के एक सेवारत 44 वर्षीय विंग कमांडर को कथित तौर पर पाकिस्तानी खुफिया तंत्र से जुड़ी महिला के हनी-ट्रैप में फंसकर संवेदनशील रक्षा सूचनाएं और गोपनीय दस्तावेज साझा करने के आरोप में गिरफ्तार किया गया है।
दिल्ली पुलिस ने शनिवार को यह जानकारी दी।
अधिकारी की गिरफ्तारी 30 मई को हुई थी, लेकिन पुलिस ने करीब 50 दिन बाद मामले की विस्तृत जानकारी सार्वजनिक की।
पुलिस के मुताबिक, भारतीय वायुसेना की शिकायत के आधार पर कार्रवाई की गई थी। मामले में जांच पूरी होने के बाद 30 जुलाई को संबंधित अदालत के समक्ष आरोपपत्र दाखिल किया गया।
दिल्ली पुलिस ने अपने बयान में कहा कि वायुसेना के एक सेवारत अधिकारी को पाकिस्तानी खुफिया ऑपरेटिव द्वारा कथित तौर पर हनी-ट्रैप किए जाने के आरोप में 30 मई को गिरफ्तार किया गया था।
पुलिस ने कहा कि चार्जशीट दाखिल की जा चुकी है और मामला न्यायिक विचाराधीन है।
अधिकारियों के अनुसार, अधिकारी पर आधिकारिक गोपनीयता कानून (Official Secrets Act) की संबंधित धाराओं के तहत मामला दर्ज किया गया।
दिल्ली पुलिस की स्पेशल सेल और केंद्रीय खुफिया एजेंसियों ने उससे संयुक्त रूप से पूछताछ की। इसके बाद उसे अदालत में पेश किया गया, जहां जून में न्यायिक हिरासत में भेज दिया गया।
फिलहाल वह तिहाड़ जेल में बंद है।
सोशल मीडिया के जरिए बढ़ाई नजदीकी
जांच से जुड़े अधिकारियों के अनुसार, अधिकारी अपने निजी जीवन में कुछ परेशानियों का सामना कर रहा था।
इसी दौरान इस वर्ष की शुरुआत में सोशल मीडिया प्लेटफॉर्म के जरिए उसकी एक महिला से कथित तौर पर दोस्ती हुई।
दोनों के बीच संदेशों का आदान-प्रदान हुआ और एक सुरक्षित संचार ऐप के जरिए फोन पर बातचीत भी होने लगी।
जांचकर्ताओं का आरोप है कि महिला ने धीरे-धीरे अधिकारी का विश्वास हासिल किया और बाद में उससे भारतीय रक्षा व्यवस्था से जुड़ी गोपनीय जानकारी साझा करने को कहा।
पुलिस के अनुसार, अधिकारी ने कथित तौर पर संवेदनशील सामग्री की तस्वीरें और वीडियो साझा किए।
जांच में यह भी आरोप सामने आया कि महिला ने अधिकारी से उसके एक सहकर्मी के मोबाइल फोन में एक एप इंस्टॉल करने को कहा था।
जांच अधिकारियों को संदेह है कि यह एप स्पाइवेयर या रिमोट-एक्सेस मालवेयर की तरह काम कर सकता था, जिसका इस्तेमाल मोबाइल में मौजूद डेटा हासिल करने और उसके स्थान की निगरानी के लिए किया जा सकता था।
वायुसेना की खुफिया शाखा ने पकड़ा मामला
अधिकारियों के मुताबिक, कथित जासूसी गतिविधियों का पता भारतीय वायुसेना की खुफिया शाखा को इलेक्ट्रॉनिक निगरानी के दौरान चला।
इसके बाद संबंधित जानकारी और साक्ष्य दिल्ली पुलिस की स्पेशल सेल के साथ साझा किए गए और अधिकारी को कानूनी कार्रवाई के लिए पुलिस के हवाले किया गया।
स्पेशल सेल की जांच में कथित तौर पर ऐसे संकेत मिले कि विंग कमांडर से संपर्क करने वाली महिला पाकिस्तान में बैठे हैंडलरों के लिए काम कर सकती है।
जांच एजेंसियां इस संभावना की भी पड़ताल कर रही हैं कि महिला किसी बड़े जासूसी नेटवर्क का हिस्सा थी, जो भारतीय रक्षा प्रतिष्ठान से संबंधित महत्वपूर्ण सूचनाएं जुटाने में सक्रिय हो सकता है।
भारतीय वायुसेना के प्रवक्ता ने कहा कि अधिकारी पर पहले से सक्रिय निगरानी रखी जा रही थी और बाद में उसे उपयुक्त कानून प्रवर्तन एजेंसियों को सौंप दिया गया।
पुलिस ने संदिग्ध महिला की पहचान या कथित तौर पर साझा की गई गोपनीय सामग्री की सटीक प्रकृति सार्वजनिक नहीं की है।
चार्जशीट अदालत में दाखिल होने के बाद अब मामले में लगाए गए आरोप न्यायिक जांच के दायरे में हैं।
