Illegal Madrasa in Sant Kabir Nagar Demolished After Appeals Rejected; Heavy Security Deployed
Sant Kabir Nagar: A large-scale demolition drive began on Sunday in Khalilabad, where authorities moved to bring down a madrasa building found to be constructed in violation of regulations.
The structure, located in the Motinagar area, was associated with a trust run by Maulana Shamsul Huda Khan, who reportedly holds British citizenship.
The action followed the rejection of multiple appeals filed by the managing society, Kulliyatul Banatir Rajbia Educational and Welfare Society.
After the Commissioner upheld earlier orders passed by district authorities, a joint administrative and police team reached the site under the supervision of senior officials and began demolition using heavy machinery, including several excavators.
Officials stated that the madrasa project initially received approval in 2018 for construction on a limited plot of about 250 square feet.
However, subsequent inspections revealed that the building had been expanded well beyond the sanctioned area.
Despite repeated notices asking the society to submit a revised building plan, no compliance was made.
Further investigation by local authorities confirmed irregularities in the construction.
The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) later declared the structure illegal, noting that the land had already been vested with the state under revenue laws.
Even a fresh application submitted in November 2025 seeking approval for the building plan was rejected for not meeting regulatory norms.
With all legal avenues exhausted—including appeals before the District Magistrate and later the Commissioner—the demolition order was finally enforced.
On the ground, the operation has been carried out under tight security. Around 140 police personnel, along with units of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), have been deployed to maintain law and order.
Senior officials, including Additional District Magistrate Jay Prakash and Additional Superintendent of Police Sushil Kumar Singh, are overseeing the process.
Given the size of the structure, authorities estimate that the demolition could take up to two to three days to complete.
Six JCB machines and two large excavators have been pressed into service, and officials have made it clear that the operation will continue until the building is fully removed.
According to SDM Hriday Ram Tiwari, the construction violated provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Urban Planning and Development Act, as it was carried out without proper approval.
He reiterated that the administration is committed to enforcing regulations uniformly.
The incident highlights the administration’s firm stance on unauthorized constructions, while also reflecting the importance of adherence to legal and planning norms in development projects.
Sources said there exist several illegal Madrasas in the state, where, in the garb of education, young minds were being radicalised in the name of Islam to the extent of developing hatred towards the very land where they were born and where their forefathers converted to Islam from Hinduism.
