Indian Army Reports Heavy Casualties on Pakistan Side Following Strikes on Terror Targets; Border Areas Witness Return to Normalcy
A day after the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan took effect, the Indian Army provided a detailed briefing to the media, revealing significant operational achievements during the recent escalation at the Line of Control (LoC).
According to the Army, between May 7 and May 10, approximately 35 to 40 Pakistani Army personnel were killed in retaliatory and preemptive strikes along the LoC.
Additionally, the Indian armed forces confirmed that over 100 terrorists were neutralized during coordinated operations targeting nine specific terror hubs across Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
The high-value terrorist casualties include Yusuf Azhar, Abdul Malik Rauf, and Mudasir Ahmed — individuals with long-standing roles in orchestrating attacks against India. Notably, some of these targets were directly linked to the Pulwama terror attack and the 1999 hijacking of Indian Airlines flight IC-814, events that left deep scars on the Indian national consciousness.
To corroborate the effectiveness of the strikes, Air Marshal A.K. Bharti presented the media with satellite imagery showcasing “before and after” visuals of the destroyed terror hideouts.
The images offered compelling visual confirmation of the precision and impact of the Indian Air Force’s operations, which were carried out under high secrecy.
Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Lt. Gen. Rajiv Ghai further elaborated on the military’s strategy and execution.
He stated that the operations had achieved “total tactical surprise,” catching both Pakistani forces and terrorist networks off guard. He explained that the nine terror hubs targeted had been carefully selected based on intelligence inputs, ensuring maximum strategic impact.
“These were not random strikes,” Lt. Gen. Ghai asserted. “Each target had been under observation and was chosen for its critical role in cross-border terrorism.”
Meanwhile, on the civilian front, a gradual return to normalcy was reported across the border villages that had borne the brunt of the recent hostilities.
Areas ranging from Uri in Baramulla district to Gurez in Bandipora district in North Kashmir, long vulnerable to cross-border shelling and sniper attacks, witnessed a visible decline in tensions.
According to locals, no exchange of fire was reported overnight, bringing a much-needed sense of relief to residents who had spent the previous nights in fear and uncertainty.
In Tangdhar, located in the Kupwara district, a resident shared that families who had sought shelter in safer zones or indoors during the crossfire were now cautiously returning to their homes.
“It was a sleepless and terrifying three days,” he said. “But for the first time in a while, we had a peaceful night.”
The ripple effects of the ceasefire are also being felt beyond Jammu and Kashmir. Border regions in Punjab and Rajasthan, which had recently experienced cross-border shelling and drone incursions, reported a calm atmosphere on Sunday.
Local authorities in these regions confirmed that there had been no further provocations or violations since the ceasefire was announced and implemented.
Furthermore, Jammu’s Udhampur district, which witnessed firing incidents even as late as Saturday evening, has remained peaceful since then, with no new incidents reported by security officials.
The Indian military leadership emphasized that while the ceasefire offers a temporary de-escalation, security forces remain on high alert to respond swiftly to any breach or act of aggression.
“This is a tactical pause, not a surrender of vigilance,” one senior officer noted.
The overall atmosphere along the border, for now, seems to be stabilizing, bringing cautious hope to thousands of residents who have lived under the constant threat of violence.
However, military officials and defense analysts agree that the long-term impact of this ceasefire will depend on Pakistan’s willingness to rein in its support for terror networks operating from its soil.
As things stand, the Indian Armed Forces have sent a strong message—both through precision military action and through the presentation of credible evidence—that India remains committed to protecting its sovereignty and national security, while also seeking peace along its borders.
