Jharkhand Recruitment Row: Governor Meets Hemant Soren as Student Protests Intensify, Government Promises Action
Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar met Chief Minister Hemant Soren amid growing protests over alleged JPSC and JSSC recruitment irregularities. Student leaders are set to hold talks with the government.
Amid intensifying demonstrations over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC), Governor Santosh Gangwar met Chief Minister Hemant Soren as demands for sweeping reforms in the state’s recruitment system gathered momentum.
Organisers of the agitation also announced that a five-member delegation representing protesting students would hold discussions with the Chief Minister on Thursday.
According to an official statement issued from Lok Bhawan, Chief Minister Hemant Soren was briefed on issues relating to recruitment processes carried out by the JPSC and JSSC, along with concerns raised during the ongoing student movement.
The statement said the Chief Minister assured that the state government remained committed to protecting the interests of students and would ensure that no injustice was done to young aspirants.
He also promised appropriate action wherever required.
Subsequently, the Jharkhand government announced the formation of a three-member political delegation to engage with the protesters.
The panel will include one representative each from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), the Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
The controversy emerged after the Jharkhand Public Service Commission declared the preliminary examination results of the 14th Combined Civil Services Examination earlier this month.
Although the Commission shortlisted 2,204 candidates for the Main examination against 103 advertised vacancies, questions were raised soon after the results were announced over the fairness of the selection process.
Approximately 3.5 lakh candidates had appeared for the examination.
A key issue driving the protests is the allegation that the examination paper was leaked before the test.
The developments have unfolded against the backdrop of similar student protests witnessed recently at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
In response, the Hemant Soren government has initiated action, with 16 individuals arrested so far in connection with the alleged leak.
The Chief Minister has reiterated that the government stands with students seeking a transparent recruitment process.
Protest organisers confirmed that a five-member student delegation is scheduled to meet the Chief Minister to present its concerns and demands regarding the recruitment examinations.
The issue also dominated the opening day of the Monsoon Session of the Jharkhand Assembly.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators staged a symbolic demonstration inside the House by wearing masks to protest the alleged irregularities in the recruitment process.
The masks displayed by BJP MLAs, including Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi, carried messages demanding the government’s response to the controversy.
Opposition members also called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the allegations surrounding the recruitment examinations.
Responding to the growing public outrage, Chief Minister Hemant Soren said on Wednesday that allegations relating to examination paper leaks had become a nationwide concern.
He assured that the state government would conduct a comprehensive investigation and take appropriate action based on the findings.

झारखंड लोक सेवा आयोग (JPSC) और झारखंड कर्मचारी चयन आयोग (JSSC) की भर्ती प्रक्रियाओं में कथित अनियमितताओं को लेकर राज्यभर में जारी छात्र आंदोलन के बीच राज्यपाल संतोष गंगवार ने मुख्यमंत्री हेमंत सोरेन से मुलाकात की।
भर्ती व्यवस्था में व्यापक सुधार की मांग को लेकर आंदोलन तेज होने के बीच प्रदर्शनकारियों के प्रतिनिधियों ने भी घोषणा की कि पांच सदस्यीय छात्र प्रतिनिधिमंडल गुरुवार को मुख्यमंत्री से मुलाकात करेगा।
लोक भवन की ओर से जारी आधिकारिक बयान के अनुसार मुख्यमंत्री हेमंत सोरेन को JPSC और JSSC की नियुक्ति प्रक्रियाओं से जुड़े मुद्दों तथा छात्रों के आंदोलन के संबंध में विस्तार से अवगत कराया गया।
मुख्यमंत्री ने भरोसा दिलाया कि राज्य सरकार छात्रों के साथ न्याय सुनिश्चित करने के लिए प्रतिबद्ध है और युवाओं के हितों के साथ किसी भी प्रकार का अन्याय नहीं होने दिया जाएगा।
उन्होंने आवश्यक मामलों में उचित कार्रवाई का भी आश्वासन दिया।
इसके बाद राज्य सरकार ने प्रदर्शनकारियों से संवाद के लिए तीन सदस्यीय राजनीतिक प्रतिनिधिमंडल गठित करने की घोषणा की।
इस प्रतिनिधिमंडल में झारखंड मुक्ति मोर्चा (JMM), कांग्रेस और राष्ट्रीय जनता दल (RJD) के एक-एक प्रतिनिधि शामिल होंगे।
विवाद की शुरुआत इसी महीने झारखंड लोक सेवा आयोग द्वारा 14वीं संयुक्त सिविल सेवा प्रारंभिक परीक्षा का परिणाम घोषित किए जाने के बाद हुई।
आयोग ने 103 रिक्तियों के लिए 2,204 अभ्यर्थियों को मुख्य परीक्षा हेतु चयनित किया, लेकिन परिणाम जारी होने के तुरंत बाद चयन प्रक्रिया में कथित गड़बड़ियों के आरोप सामने आने लगे।
इस परीक्षा में लगभग 3.5 लाख अभ्यर्थियों ने भाग लिया था।
आंदोलन का प्रमुख मुद्दा परीक्षा प्रश्नपत्र के कथित लीक होने का आरोप है। यह विरोध प्रदर्शन राष्ट्रीय राजधानी दिल्ली के जंतर-मंतर पर हाल में हुए छात्र आंदोलनों की पृष्ठभूमि में और अधिक चर्चा का विषय बना।
राज्य सरकार ने मामले में त्वरित कार्रवाई करते हुए अब तक 16 लोगों को गिरफ्तार किया है। मुख्यमंत्री हेमंत सोरेन ने दोहराया है कि सरकार निष्पक्ष भर्ती प्रक्रिया की मांग कर रहे युवाओं के साथ खड़ी है।
प्रदर्शनकारियों के आयोजकों ने बताया कि पांच सदस्यीय छात्र प्रतिनिधिमंडल मुख्यमंत्री से मुलाकात कर भर्ती प्रक्रिया से जुड़े अपने सुझाव और मांगें सीधे उनके समक्ष रखेगा।
इस मुद्दे की गूंज झारखंड विधानसभा के मानसून सत्र के पहले दिन भी सुनाई दी।
भारतीय जनता पार्टी (भाजपा) के विधायकों ने कथित भर्ती अनियमितताओं के विरोध में सदन के भीतर प्रतीकात्मक प्रदर्शन किया और मास्क पहनकर सरकार के खिलाफ विरोध दर्ज कराया।
विपक्ष के नेता बाबूलाल मरांडी सहित भाजपा विधायकों द्वारा पहने गए मास्क पर सरकार से जवाब मांगने वाले संदेश लिखे थे। विपक्ष ने पूरे मामले की केंद्रीय अन्वेषण ब्यूरो (CBI) से जांच कराने की भी मांग उठाई।
बढ़ते जनदबाव के बीच मुख्यमंत्री हेमंत सोरेन ने बुधवार को कहा कि प्रश्नपत्र लीक की घटनाएं केवल झारखंड तक सीमित नहीं हैं, बल्कि यह पूरे देश के सामने चुनौती बन चुकी हैं।
उन्होंने भरोसा दिलाया कि राज्य सरकार पूरे मामले की निष्पक्ष और व्यापक जांच कराएगी तथा जांच के निष्कर्षों के आधार पर आवश्यक कदम उठाए जाएंगे।
