Prayagraj Wedding Turns Tragic as Speeding Bolero Ploughs Into Baraatis, Two Dead Including 12-Year-Old Boy

What began as a night of celebration and joy turned into a scene of chaos and mourning after a speeding Bolero vehicle rammed into a crowd of wedding guests in Prayagraj late Tuesday night, killing two people, including a 12-year-old boy, and injuring over a dozen others.

The tragic accident took place in the Phulpur area when a wedding ceremony was underway at Boudai Katauta village.

According to police and eyewitnesses, the driver of the Bolero lost control of the vehicle and drove straight into a group of baraatis and family members standing near the roadside during the traditional “dwarachar” ritual.

The deceased were identified as Ramesh, 32, a resident of Boudai Katauta village, and 12-year-old Deepanshu, who succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

The wedding was being held at the residence of Shukru Chauhan, whose two daughters were getting married to Rahul and Deepak, sons of Pappu, residents of Usmanpur Jamrahi village in Kanpur Dehat.

The baraat had arrived around midnight, and the celebrations were continuing late into the night with music, dancing, and traditional rituals.

According to locals, around 2 am, several members of both the bride’s and groom’s families were standing along the roadside near a DJ vehicle, watching the wedding rituals and celebrations.

At that moment, a Bolero coming from the Pratappur side at high speed reportedly lost control on the Pratappur-Phulpur road.

Witnesses said the vehicle first collided with the DJ setup vehicle before crashing into the crowd gathered nearby.

The impact caused panic and confusion at the wedding venue. People screamed and ran in different directions to save themselves as several guests were thrown onto the road.

Eyewitnesses alleged that instead of stopping immediately, the driver attempted to escape by repeatedly moving the vehicle forward and backward, causing even more people to come under its wheels.

Villagers tried to catch the driver, but he managed to flee from the spot with the vehicle before police arrived.

The injured were rushed to the Community Health Centre Phulpur for emergency treatment.

Those with critical injuries were later referred to Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital in Prayagraj city.

Ramesh died on the way to the hospital, while Deepanshu later succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Among the injured are Ismail (21), Ratnesh (10), Arshad, Deepu (17), Ravi (18), Sajan (65), Kunwar Singh (18), Ramvee,r and Pappu from the groom’s side. Sixteen-year-old Badal from the bride’s family was also injured in the accident.

The tragedy cast a shadow over the wedding celebrations. Family members and relatives who had gathered for the joyous occasion were left in shock and grief.

Amid the mourning and chaos, the wedding rituals were completed quietly, and the brides were bade farewell within a few hours in an atmosphere filled with sorrow.

Following the incident, angry villagers staged protests and allegedly vandalised vehicles passing through the area, leading to a massive traffic jam on the route. Police teams later reached the spot, pacified the crowd, and restored traffic movement.

Vivek Yadav said a case has been registered based on a complaint filed by the victims’ family members. He stated that preliminary investigation suggests the accident occurred due to rash and negligent driving.

Police have launched a search operation to trace the absconding driver and seize the Bolero involved in the incident.
