Rahul Gandhi Tells Prayagraj Students to Challenge the System, Focuses on Jobs, Exams and Data
Rahul Gandhi’s Prayagraj Message to Students: Fight for Jobs, Fair Exams and Your Future
Rahul Gandhi addressed students and competitive exam aspirants in Prayagraj, focusing on unemployment, paper leaks, education costs, AI and the economic value of youth-generated data.
Prayagraj: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi used a large student gathering in Prayagraj on Saturday to make a broad political pitch around employment, examination integrity, education costs and the economic value of young Indians’ data.
Addressing students and competitive-examination aspirants at the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme, Gandhi portrayed India’s youth as the country’s most important resource and urged them to remain engaged in demanding accountability from institutions.
He said the country’s young people should not merely be viewed as beneficiaries of government policies but as a force capable of influencing the direction of the economy and society.
His remarks formed part of the Congress-led outreach aimed at students and job aspirants.
Youth, data and the economy
A central theme of Gandhi’s address was the relationship between India’s young population and the enormous volume of digital information generated through their online activities.
He argued that India’s demographic strength, combined with its vast data resources, could become a major economic advantage in the age of artificial intelligence.
But he questioned who ultimately captures the financial value created from that information.
Gandhi alleged that young Indians are encouraged to spend increasing amounts of time creating and consuming digital content while the commercial gains from the resulting data accrue disproportionately to large corporations.
His argument was framed around what he described as an imbalance between those who generate the data and those who monetise it.
Jobs and examination system take centre stage
The Congress leader also focused heavily on the difficulties confronting students who spend years preparing for competitive examinations.
He argued that obtaining an educational qualification does not necessarily translate into employment and said young people were being squeezed between the rising cost of education and a shortage of suitable jobs.
Gandhi also raised the issue of examination paper leaks, saying irregularities can destroy years of preparation and undermine confidence in merit-based recruitment.
He linked the problem to broader weaknesses in manufacturing, access to credit and employment opportunities.
He further warned that the growing use of artificial intelligence could reshape the labour market, making it essential for India to ensure that technological progress creates opportunities rather than adding to unemployment.
Appeal for continued student mobilisation
Without directly referring to the Jantar Mantar agitation or the resignation of former Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Gandhi praised young people for coming out on the streets over issues affecting their future.
He described such mobilisation as evidence that students were becoming more willing to question established systems.
Gandhi told the gathering that he would continue to support students in their demand for their rights, presenting the Congress as an ally in the wider debate over education, examinations and employment.
‘Politics of love’ message
Gandhi also brought his recurring message of opposing hatred into the student outreach.
He urged students to respond to disagreements without allowing hostility to dominate public life and repeated his call for a “shop of love” as an alternative to politics centred on division.
Two students were invited onto the stage to speak about their own experiences, giving the event a more direct student-oriented character.
Minimal party branding at the venue
The Congress kept its organisational presence relatively restrained at the programme, with the focus deliberately placed on students rather than party flags and conventional political symbolism.
The venue nevertheless carried posters featuring Gandhi as “Jan Nayak”, along with slogans centred on employment and youth grievances.
The programme was held despite difficult ground conditions following rain, with portions of the venue reportedly waterlogged and muddy. Preparations included efforts to make the ground usable for the gathering. =
Prayagraj follows Kota and Dehradun outreach
The Prayagraj meeting was part of Gandhi’s continuing ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ campaign, through which the Congress has sought to build a direct connection with students and competitive-examination aspirants.
The initiative has previously taken Gandhi to cities including Kota and Dehradun, with education expenses, examination irregularities, recruitment problems and unemployment forming recurring themes.
The Prayagraj address expanded that campaign beyond examination grievances, placing the debate in the context of India’s digital economy, artificial intelligence and the distribution of economic gains.
