Sachin Tendulkar Applauds Son Arjun After Impressive IPL 2026 Debut for LSG Against Punjab Kings
Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar expressed pride and admiration for his son Arjun Tendulkar after the young pacer finally made his debut for Lucknow Super Giants in their IPL clash against Punjab Kings on Saturday.
Arjun, who had spent almost the entire season waiting for an opportunity, made an immediate impact by dismissing the dangerous and in-form Prabhsimran Singh with a beautifully executed yorker.
The delivery, bowled in the 15th over, crashed into the opener’s pads and trapped him plumb in front of the stumps, giving the young left-arm pacer his maiden wicket for LSG.
Despite the pressure of making his debut late in the tournament, Arjun showed composure and discipline with the ball. He finished with figures of 1/36 from his four overs, delivering a steady spell against a powerful Punjab batting lineup.
Following the match, Sachin Tendulkar shared an emotional message for his son on the social media platform X.
The former India captain praised Arjun not only for his performance but also for the patience, discipline, and maturity he displayed throughout the season while waiting for his chance in the playing XI.
“Well done, Arjun. Proud of the way you’ve carried yourself through this season, always believing in your ability, staying patient, working hard quietly, and remaining positive despite having to wait for your opportunity till the very last match,” Sachin wrote.
He further added that cricket tests a player’s patience just as much as skill and said Arjun handled both challenges “beautifully”.
Sachin also advised his son to remain grounded and continue enjoying the game with the same passion and love that have guided him so far.
Ahead of the IPL 2026 mini-auction, Arjun had moved away from the Mumbai Indians for the first time in his IPL career.
After spending several seasons with the five-time champions, he was picked up by Lucknow Super Giants for his base price of ₹30 lakh, giving him a fresh opportunity to establish himself at a new franchise.
Arjun first entered the IPL setup with the Mumbai Indians in 2021 and made his T20 debut the same year. Over time, he has continued developing as a bowling all-rounder.
In 29 T20 matches overall, he has claimed 35 wickets at an impressive strike rate while also contributing useful runs lower down the order.
However, opportunities at the IPL level have remained limited, with Saturday’s match marking only his fifth appearance in the tournament.
While Arjun’s debut became one of the talking points of the evening, Punjab Kings ultimately dominated the contest with a commanding seven-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants.
Punjab skipper Shreyas Iyer produced a sensational unbeaten century, leading his side brilliantly during the chase. Iyer smashed 101 runs off just 51 deliveries, anchoring the innings with authority and confidence as PBKS kept their playoff hopes alive.
At the top of the order, Prabhsimran Singh continued his excellent form with a fluent 69 off 39 balls. His aggressive approach in the powerplay laid the perfect foundation for Punjab’s successful chase and ensured the required run rate never became a concern.
Chasing a target of 197, Punjab Kings completed the task comfortably in just 18 overs, finishing at 200 for 3 and underlining their batting strength in a high-pressure encounter.
Earlier in the match, Lucknow Super Giants posted a competitive total of 196 for 6 after useful contributions from several batters.
England wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis played a stylish knock of 72 from 44 balls, striking boundaries regularly and keeping the scoreboard moving.
Middle-order batter Ayush Badoni added momentum during the middle overs with a quickfire 43 off just 18 deliveries, while Abdul Samad provided a strong finish with an unbeaten 37 from 20 balls.
For the Punjab Kings, veteran spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and South African pacer Marco Jansen were the standout bowlers.
Chahal picked up two wickets while maintaining control in the middle overs, whereas Jansen’s disciplined spell helped restrict LSG from crossing the 200-run mark.
