Satya Niketan Building Collapse: 3 Dead, 9 Critically Injured as Rescue Teams Search Debris in Delhi
Five-storey hostel building caves in near Nanakpura Gurudwara, killing at least three and leaving nine critically injured; students feared trapped, adjacent structure evacuated as multi-agency rescue operation continues
New Delhi: A five-storey building being used as a hostel collapsed in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area on Sunday afternoon, leaving three people dead and at least nine others critically injured, according to officials at AIIMS.
The number of people who may still be beneath the rubble remained uncertain as rescue teams continued searching the site.
The injured were brought to the Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre at AIIMS for treatment.
Among those taken to the hospital was a member of the rescue effort, who received medical attention and was later discharged.
The collapse occurred near Nanakpura Gurudwara, where a large quantity of rubble fell onto the surrounding area.
Several vehicles parked close to the structure were damaged.
Residents from the neighbourhood joined emergency personnel in helping clear debris and assist those pulled out of the wreckage.
Police received the emergency call at approximately 1:34 pm, following which Delhi Fire Services personnel and other agencies moved into action.
At least eight fire tenders were deployed, while teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) also reached the location to strengthen the search-and-rescue operation.
The immediate priority remained locating anyone trapped inside. Police officials said some people had been brought out alive and taken for medical care, but they were unable to provide a confirmed figure for those still missing.
DCP South West Amit Goel said the number of people inside the collapsed structure could not initially be established.
The uncertainty was heightened by reports that students staying in the hostel might still be inside the debris.
The property, according to sources, was owned by Azad Bansal and operated as a hostel known as ‘Hostel Daze’, where students lived as tenants.
Investigators are examining whether construction-related activity had a role in the structural failure.
Sources said renovation work and excavation in the basement are among the factors being examined, with investigators suspecting that such activity may have compromised supports in the lower portion of the building.
The cause, however, remains subject to investigation.
The scale of the response grew rapidly, bringing together personnel from the Delhi Fire Services, NDRF, Delhi Police, Delhi Disaster Management Authority, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Centralised Accident and Trauma Services and Civil Defence.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the agencies were working together to locate and rescue those who could be trapped.
As a precaution, authorities cleared the adjoining building to protect residents from any further structural risk.
Gupta said the administration was monitoring developments at the site and that every available effort was being directed towards the rescue operation and assistance to families affected by the collapse.
The incident has also drawn concern from the Centre. The Prime Minister’s Office expressed condolences to the families of those who died and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
The PMO said authorities were engaged in rescue work and providing assistance to people affected by the collapse.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke to senior officials, including the Delhi Chief Minister, Delhi Police Commissioner and NDRF Director General, to take stock of the emergency response.
He said rescue agencies and the local administration were working together and that medical assistance was being provided to the injured.
BJP MLA Anil Sharma said there were indications that people might still be inside the collapsed building.
According to him, some students were making phone calls from within the structure, raising fears that additional occupants could be trapped beneath the debris.
The latest incident has revived memories of another building accident in Satya Niketan in 2022. In that case, the terrace of a three-storey house undergoing renovation gave way during the afternoon, trapping six workers.
For now, officials are concentrating on the search operation and on determining the number of occupants who were inside when the building came down.
The investigation will also examine the structural condition of the property and whether renovation or excavation activity contributed to the collapse.

नई दिल्ली: दिल्ली के सत्या निकेतन इलाके में रविवार दोपहर एक पांच मंजिला इमारत अचानक भरभराकर गिर गई। इमारत में छात्रावास संचालित हो रहा था।
हादसे में तीन लोगों की मौत हो गई, जबकि कम से कम नौ घायलों की हालत गंभीर बताई जा रही है। एम्स के अधिकारियों के अनुसार घायलों को उपचार के लिए जय प्रकाश नारायण एपेक्स ट्रॉमा सेंटर लाया गया।
इमारत गिरने के बाद मलबे में कई लोगों के फंसे होने की आशंका पैदा हो गई। हालांकि, हादसे के शुरुआती घंटों में यह स्पष्ट नहीं हो सका कि उस समय इमारत के भीतर कुल कितने लोग मौजूद थे। बचाव दल लगातार मलबा हटाकर संभावित रूप से फंसे लोगों की तलाश कर रहे थे।
नानकपुरा गुरुद्वारे के समीप हुए इस हादसे ने आसपास के इलाके में अफरा-तफरी मचा दी। मलबे की चपेट में आकर आसपास खड़े कई वाहन भी क्षतिग्रस्त हो गए।
स्थानीय लोग भी राहत एवं बचाव कर्मियों के साथ मलबा हटाने और लोगों को बाहर निकालने में जुटे दिखाई दिए।
पुलिस को दोपहर करीब 1:34 बजे इमारत गिरने की सूचना मिली। इसके बाद दिल्ली फायर सर्विस की गाड़ियां मौके पर भेजी गईं।
कम से कम आठ दमकल वाहनों को अभियान में लगाया गया, जबकि राष्ट्रीय आपदा मोचन बल (एनडीआरएफ) की टीम ने भी घटनास्थल पर पहुंचकर बचाव कार्य संभाला।
बचाव अभियान का सबसे चुनौतीपूर्ण हिस्सा मलबे के नीचे संभावित रूप से फंसे लोगों तक पहुंचना रहा।
पुलिस के मुताबिक कुछ लोगों को सुरक्षित बाहर निकालकर अस्पताल पहुंचाया गया, लेकिन तत्काल यह पता नहीं चल पाया कि अभी कितने लोग अंदर फंसे हो सकते हैं।
दक्षिण-पश्चिमी दिल्ली के डीसीपी अमित गोयल ने कहा कि घटनास्थल पर मौजूद लोगों की सही संख्या फिलहाल सामने नहीं आई है।
इसी वजह से मलबे में फंसे लोगों की संख्या को लेकर भी तत्काल कोई निश्चित आंकड़ा नहीं दिया जा सका।
इमारत के मालिक के तौर पर सूत्रों ने आजाद बंसल का नाम बताया है। ‘हॉस्टल डेज’ नाम से संचालित इस परिसर में छात्र किराये पर रह रहे थे।
पुलिस और अन्य जांच एजेंसियां अब यह पता लगाने में जुटी हैं कि इमारत अचानक क्यों ढही।
जांच में इमारत में चल रहे मरम्मत कार्य और बेसमेंट में की जा रही खुदाई को भी एक संभावित कारण के तौर पर देखा जा रहा है।
सूत्रों के अनुसार आशंका है कि निचले हिस्से में किए गए काम से इमारत के आधारभूत सहारों पर असर पड़ा हो सकता है। हालांकि, हादसे की वास्तविक वजह जांच पूरी होने के बाद ही स्पष्ट होगी।
घटना के बाद राहत अभियान में कई सरकारी एजेंसियां एक साथ जुट गईं। दिल्ली पुलिस और दमकल विभाग के अलावा एनडीआरएफ, दिल्ली आपदा प्रबंधन प्राधिकरण, एमसीडी, कैट्स और सिविल डिफेंस के दल भी मौके पर काम कर रहे थे।
मुख्यमंत्री रेखा गुप्ता ने बताया कि बचाव अभियान को प्राथमिकता दी जा रही है। संभावित खतरे को देखते हुए प्रशासन ने इमारत से सटी दूसरी इमारत को भी खाली करा लिया, ताकि किसी और अप्रिय घटना की स्थिति में लोगों की सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित की जा सके।
मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा कि घटनास्थल की स्थिति पर लगातार नजर रखी जा रही है और संबंधित एजेंसियां आपसी समन्वय से काम कर रही हैं। प्रभावित परिवारों को तत्काल सहायता उपलब्ध कराने के निर्देश भी दिए गए हैं।
घटना पर प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय ने भी दुख जताया। पीएमओ ने मृतकों के परिवारों के प्रति संवेदना व्यक्त करते हुए घायलों के जल्द स्वस्थ होने की कामना की।
केंद्र की ओर से कहा गया कि मौके पर मौजूद एजेंसियां राहत और बचाव कार्य में जुटी हैं तथा प्रभावित लोगों की मदद की जा रही है।
केंद्रीय गृह मंत्री अमित शाह ने भी हादसे की स्थिति की जानकारी ली।
उन्होंने दिल्ली की मुख्यमंत्री, दिल्ली पुलिस आयुक्त और एनडीआरएफ के महानिदेशक से बातचीत कर राहत अभियान का जायजा लिया।
शाह ने कहा कि स्थानीय प्रशासन और एनडीआरएफ मिलकर व्यापक स्तर पर बचाव कार्य चला रहे हैं तथा घायलों को आवश्यक चिकित्सा सुविधा दी जा रही है।
भाजपा विधायक अनिल शर्मा ने भी दावा किया कि मलबे के भीतर से कुछ छात्रों के फोन करने की जानकारी मिली है।
इससे आशंका और बढ़ गई कि हादसे के वक्त छात्रावास में मौजूद कुछ लोग अब भी ढही हुई इमारत के नीचे फंसे हो सकते हैं।
सत्या निकेतन में यह पहली ऐसी घटना नहीं है। वर्ष 2022 में भी इसी इलाके में मरम्मत के दौरान एक तीन मंजिला मकान की छत का हिस्सा गिर गया था।
उस हादसे में छह मजदूर मलबे में फंस गए थे, जबकि दो लोगों की मौत हुई थी और कई अन्य घायल हुए थे। उस समय दिल्ली पुलिस, दमकल विभाग और एनडीआरएफ ने कई घंटे तक बचाव अभियान चलाया था।
फिलहाल प्रशासन के सामने सबसे बड़ी चुनौती मलबे के नीचे फंसे संभावित लोगों का पता लगाना है।
इसके साथ ही जांच एजेंसियां इमारत की संरचनात्मक स्थिति, चल रहे निर्माण या मरम्मत कार्य और बेसमेंट की खुदाई समेत उन सभी पहलुओं की जांच कर रही हैं, जिनका इमारत के ढहने से संबंध हो सकता है।
