Three Killed, Two Critically Injured in Horrific Ganga Expressway Accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur
A devastating road accident on the Ganga Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district claimed the lives of three people, including two women and an infant, while leaving two others critically injured.
The tragic crash once again raised concerns over overspeeding and safety on the newly developed expressway.
According to police officials, the accident occurred near the Bahadurgarh area of Hapur district late at night.
A speeding Canter truck carrying five passengers was travelling from Bareilly towards Ludhiana in Punjab when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle.
The truck rammed into the divider with tremendous force before overturning multiple times on the expressway.
The impact of the collision was so severe that the vehicle was badly mangled, trapping several passengers underneath.
Two women and a 10-month-old child died on the spot after being crushed beneath the overturned canter. The deceased were identified as Sridevi, Savitri, and infant Abhijeet.
Two other occupants, identified as Lalaram and Abhishek, sustained serious injuries in the crash.
Residents, along with police and emergency response teams, rushed to the scene and carried out a rescue operation.
The injured were pulled out of the wreckage and shifted to a nearby hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
Eyewitnesses said the vehicle appeared to be moving at a very high speed moments before the accident.
Preliminary investigations suggest that either driver fatigue, possible drowsiness, or loss of control due to overspeeding may have caused the crash. Police officials stated that the exact cause of the accident is being investigated.
The accident triggered panic and chaos on the expressway, with traffic movement disrupted for a considerable time.
Authorities used cranes to remove the overturned vehicle and clear the highway for traffic restoration.
Police later took custody of the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination. Officials said a detailed inquiry has been initiated, though overspeeding is currently being considered the primary reason behind the fatal accident.
The incident has once again highlighted growing concerns over road safety on the Ganga Expressway, where several serious accidents have been reported in recent months.
The ambitious expressway project, connecting Meerut to Prayagraj through multiple districts of Uttar Pradesh, is among the country’s longest expressway corridors and has witnessed increasing traffic movement since becoming operational.
