Twisha Sharma Death Case: CBI Says Probe at ‘Crucial Stage’, Awaits Forensic and AIIMS Reports
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has informed a court in Bhopal that its investigation into the death of actor and model Twisha Sharma is presently at a “crucial stage”, with several important aspects of the inquiry still pending.
The agency told the court that statements of key witnesses have yet to be recorded, forensic examination of electronic devices is continuing, and vital reports from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), Delhi, and a medical board constituted by AIIMS Delhi are still awaited.
The submission was made as the CBI sought an extension of the judicial custody of the accused, Giribala Singh, the mother-in-law of Twisha Sharma and a retired district judge.
Nearly three weeks after the investigation was transferred from the Madhya Pradesh Police to the CBI, the agency provided an update on the progress of the case.
After considering the CBI’s plea, Judicial Magistrate First Class Shobhana Bhalave extended Giribala Singh’s judicial custody until June 30.
Several Critical Leads Still Being Investigated
In its application filed before the court, CBI Deputy Superintendent of Police and Investigating Officer Nishu Kushwaha stated that the investigation had reached a highly sensitive and significant phase, with several important lines of inquiry remaining incomplete.
According to the agency, statements of several crucial witnesses are yet to be recorded.
These include members of Twisha Sharma’s family, relatives and friends of the deceased, as well as relatives of the accused.
The CBI said these individuals may possess important information that could help investigators reconstruct the events leading up to Sharma’s death and uncover additional facts relevant to the case.
Digital Evidence Under Detailed Examination
The agency also informed the court that forensic scrutiny of electronic evidence is continuing.
According to the application, cloned or imaged copies of various digital devices have already been obtained and are presently being analysed by investigators.
The examination of these devices could reveal important information and provide fresh leads in the case.
The investigation has witnessed a prolonged legal and investigative battle over electronic evidence, including mobile phones, CCTV footage, WhatsApp conversations, call detail records and audio recordings that have surfaced during the inquiry and subsequent court proceedings.
Investigators believe that digital evidence may play a crucial role in determining the sequence of events and establishing whether there were circumstances that contributed to Twisha Sharma’s death.
Crucial Forensic Reports Yet to Be Received
The CBI also told the court that several scientific reports central to the investigation have not yet been received.
According to the agency, reports from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in Delhi, particularly those relating to the recreation of the crime scene and forensic examination of exhibits collected during the investigation, are still pending.
These reports are expected to provide scientific insights into the circumstances surrounding the incident and could potentially influence the direction of the investigation.
AIIMS Delhi’s Second Postmortem Report Still Awaited
One of the most closely monitored aspects of the case remains the second postmortem examination that the Madhya Pradesh High Court ordered after repeated demands from Twisha Sharma’s family.
The CBI informed the court that the report prepared by the medical board at AIIMS Delhi, which conducted the second autopsy, has not yet been received.
The findings of the medical board are expected to be crucial in determining the exact cause and circumstances of Twisha Sharma’s death.
CBI Reserves Right to Seek Further Custodial Interrogation
The agency also reserved the option of seeking further custodial interrogation of accused Giribala Singh at a later stage if fresh evidence emerges during the ongoing investigation.
The CBI argued that continued judicial custody of the accused remains necessary because there are reasonable concerns that she could potentially interfere with the investigation if released.
In its submission, the agency stated that there are apprehensions that the accused may tamper with evidence, influence, intimidate or threaten witnesses, or attempt to evade the judicial process.
Investigators Piecing Together the Final Moments
The filing comes as CBI investigators continue to assemble evidence gathered from multiple sources, including digital devices, forensic examinations, witness testimonies and reconstruction of events that allegedly unfolded before Twisha Sharma’s death.
Twisha Sharma, an actor and model, had married Samarth Singh on December 9, 2025.
She died less than six months later at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12, triggering widespread public attention and raising several questions about the circumstances surrounding her death.
The case was subsequently transferred to the CBI following allegations by the deceased’s family that the initial investigation conducted by the Bhopal Police was inadequate and lacked thoroughness.
With key witness statements still pending and critical forensic reports yet to arrive, investigators maintain that the inquiry remains at a decisive stage, and the conclusions of the case will depend significantly on the scientific and testimonial evidence that is still being gathered.
