UP Health Minister Brajesh Pathak Orders Action Against Doctors Over Negligence, Five Face Dismissal
In a major crackdown on alleged negligence and administrative irregularities in the healthcare system, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Brajesh Pathak on Friday ordered strict disciplinary action against several government doctors and health officials across the state.
The action includes the dismissal of five doctors accused of remaining absent from duty for a prolonged period, while disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against 16 other medical officers, including a Chief Medical Officer (CMO).
Officials said the state government has also sought an explanation from one CMO over administrative lapses, while two doctors have been awarded “censure punishment” for negligence.
In another case, the deputation of a medical officer has been cancelled, and departmental proceedings have been initiated against the official concerned.
Additionally, salary increments of several doctors have been withheld as part of disciplinary measures.
Five doctors to be dismissed over prolonged absence
The state health department has decided to terminate the services of five doctors who were allegedly absent from duty for an extended period without authorization.
Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak directed Additional Chief Secretary Amit Ghosh to initiate formal dismissal proceedings against them.
The doctors facing termination include:
- Dr Alaknanda from the district hospital in Gorakhpur,
- Dr Ramji from Kushinagar,
- Dr Saurabh Singh from Balrampur,
- Dr Viklesh Sharma from Jagdishpur Community Health Centre in Amethi,
- and Dr Monica Verma from Dibiyapur Community Health Centre.
According to officials, repeated complaints regarding absenteeism and negligence had been received against these doctors, prompting the department to take strict action.
Irregularities in private hospital registrations
Serious allegations have also emerged against senior health officials in Ambedkar Nagar district.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Sanjay Shaival and Deputy CMO Dr Sanjay Verma have been found prima facie guilty of alleged irregularities in the registration and renewal process of private hospitals.
Officials said the two officers were also accused of misusing their official positions.
Following complaints, a three-member inquiry committee led by an Additional District Magistrate (ADM) conducted an investigation, during which the allegations were reportedly found to be substantiated.
After reviewing the findings, Brajesh Pathak directed the Additional Chief Secretary to initiate disciplinary proceedings against both officials.
Action over illegal private hospitals
In another case, Sandila Medical Superintendent Dr Manoj Singh from Hardoi district has been accused of failing to take action against illegally operating private hospitals in the area.
The health department has ordered a departmental inquiry against him, and further disciplinary proceedings are expected based on the investigation report.
Questions raised over administrative functioning
The state government has also raised concerns over administrative practices in certain districts where junior medical officers were allegedly assigned responsibilities meant for senior officials despite the availability of senior doctors.
Officials said explanations have been sought from the concerned CMOs regarding these decisions.
The latest action reflects the Uttar Pradesh government’s attempt to tighten accountability within the public healthcare system amid repeated complaints of negligence, absenteeism, and irregularities in administration.
Brajesh Pathak has repeatedly stressed the need for strict monitoring of government hospitals and healthcare institutions, warning officials that negligence affecting public health services will not be tolerated.
The disciplinary measures are being viewed as part of a broader effort by the state government to improve functioning in government hospitals and ensure greater transparency and accountability within the health department.
