UP Polls Ahead: Yogi Adityanath Pushes Strict Deadlines, Quality Checks for Development Projects
With the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections approaching next year, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued a strong message to officials on Wednesday, directing them to maintain strict deadlines and high-quality standards in all development projects.
He also made it clear that elected representatives should not be blamed for delays or poor execution caused by departments or contractors.
During a video conference review meeting of the Public Works Department’s (PWD) 2026-27 action plan, the Chief Minister interacted with district magistrates, ministers and public representatives from across the state.
He instructed every district to submit its development proposals within a week so that the government can finalise and approve the action plan in the first week of June.
Adityanath stressed that all development proposals must be prepared according to local needs and after proper consultation with public representatives.
He also directed that foundation stone laying ceremonies and ‘bhoomi pujan’ events for projects should only be carried out by the public representatives concerned.
Sending a clear warning to officials ahead of the election season, the Chief Minister said departmental officers would be held accountable for both construction quality and timely completion of projects.
He remarked that public representatives cannot be made answerable for negligence by departments or mistakes committed by contractors.
Highlighting the importance of infrastructure, Adityanath said roads, bridges and connectivity projects are not just meant for transportation, but are directly linked to trade, employment opportunities and overall social progress.
He asked officials to avoid favouritism while selecting projects and ensure equal development across all districts of the state.
To improve monitoring, the CM instructed district magistrates and chief development officers to appoint nodal officers for every project.
These officers will oversee work progress and ensure that quality standards are maintained. He also ordered regular reviews of projects approved last year and directed departments to submit progress reports to the government on time.
Apart from departmental monitoring, separate PWD teams will conduct field inspections and independent assessments of development works in different districts to maintain transparency and accountability.
Focusing on disaster management and emergency preparedness, Adityanath directed officials to build helipads near every block, tehsil and district headquarters.
According to him, these facilities would prove useful during natural disasters, medical emergencies and other crises. He also asked the PWD to create a proper maintenance system and introduce a fixed-fee mechanism for helipad usage.
Referring to fluctuations in global fuel and bitumen supply, the Chief Minister advised the department to adopt modern road construction technologies.
He encouraged officials to prioritise cement-treated sub-base and cement-treated base techniques, which can reduce dependence on bitumen while making roads more durable.
He further instructed officials to construct concrete roads on rural stretches of up to two kilometres wherever necessary to improve rural connectivity and long-term road quality.
Praising the Urban Development Department’s ‘CM Grid’ initiative, Adityanath said the scheme has significantly improved urban connectivity.
He directed officials to speed up its implementation so that towns across Uttar Pradesh can benefit from better roads and smoother transportation networks.
Officials informed the Chief Minister during the meeting that over 30,000 proposals covering 17 departmental categories have already been received for the 2026-27 financial year.
Adityanath directed departments to prioritise the proposals carefully and ensure that projects are executed in a phased, transparent and time-bound manner.
