US Vice President JD Vance Begins First Official Visit to India
United States Vice President JD Vance is currently on a four-day official visit to India, marking his first trip to the country in this capacity.
Vance arrived in New Delhi on Monday morning, landing at the Palam airport after concluding an earlier visit to Italy. Accompanied by his wife, Usha Vance, and their three children — Ewan, Vivek, and Maribel — he was warmly welcomed by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw upon arrival.
The Vice President was also accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour.
Following his engagements in Delhi, Vance and his family travelled to Jaipur, Rajasthan. During their stay, they visited the iconic Amer Fort (also known as Amber Fort), where they were greeted by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari.
The Vance family is scheduled to depart for Agra on Wednesday morning, where they will visit the world-renowned Taj Mahal before concluding their India visit and returning to the United States on Thursday.
Upon arrival in Delhi on Monday at approximately 9:30 AM, Vice President Vance began his itinerary with a visit to the Akshardham Temple, accompanied by his family. Later that evening, he met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the latter’s official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg.
During their meeting, the two leaders held wide-ranging discussions focused on strengthening collaboration in energy, defence, and strategic technologies.
Both sides welcomed the progress in negotiations for a mutually advantageous India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement, emphasizing its potential to enhance the welfare of citizens in both nations.
Vance’s visit comes at a significant moment, as global economic tensions continue to mount following the United States’ decision to impose reciprocal tariffs on various countries, including India. Trade-related discussions were a key focus during his interaction with Prime Minister Modi.
This high-profile trip also follows a recent visit to India by US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who participated in a major geopolitical conference.
Speaking about the future of India-US relations, Vice President Vance reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
“President Trump wants America and India to grow together. I believe India and the US have much to offer each other,” Vance was quoted as saying by Reuters.
Throughout the visit, Vance is accompanied not only by his family but also by senior officials from the US administration.
