Uttar Pradesh Sees Sharp Decline in Dowry Deaths and Crimes Against Women, NCRB 2024 Report Shows
The changing law-and-order situation in Uttar Pradesh, often discussed even beyond the state’s borders, has now found support in the latest data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
According to the NCRB’s Crime in India 2024 report, the state has witnessed a steady decline in several serious categories of crime, including crimes against women, kidnapping, offences against Dalits, and other grave incidents.
The three-year comparative data points toward continuous improvement in policing and public safety across the state.
One of the most significant declines has been recorded in dowry death cases. In 2023, Uttar Pradesh registered 2,122 cases of dowry deaths.
In 2024, that number dropped sharply to 1,047 — a reduction of more than 50 percent. When compared with 2022 figures as well, the state has reported an overall decline of nearly 51 percent in such cases.
The report also highlights a decline in rape cases across the state.
Uttar Pradesh recorded 3,516 rape cases in 2023, while the number fell to 3,209 in 2024, marking a decrease of 8.7 percent. Compared to 2022, rape cases in the state have declined by around 13 percent.
The latest NCRB figures are being seen as a positive sign for the Uttar Pradesh Police and the state administration, as they reflect a sustained reduction in several major crimes over recent years.
