Yogi Adityanath Hits Back at Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav Over Jobs and Education
UP Chief Minister cites rise in IITs, IIMs and skill centres as Opposition intensifies criticism of BJP government over unemployment and education
Sant Kabir Nagar: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday launched a sharp counterattack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav over their criticism of the BJP-led government on education and employment, arguing that government data tells a different story.
Addressing a public function in Sant Kabir Nagar, Adityanath questioned the Opposition leaders’ assessment of the country’s education system and pointed to the expansion of higher-education and skill-development institutions since 2014.
His remarks came amid an intensifying political battle over examination irregularities, paper leaks, unemployment and the prospects facing India’s youth.
Yogi cites expansion of higher education
Adityanath said the number of Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) had increased from 16 before 2014 to 23 under the Narendra Modi government, which he described as an increase of about 40 per cent.
He also cited an increase in Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), from 13 to 22, and referred to the expansion of the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, saying hundreds of skill-development centres are now operating across the country.
Taking a direct swipe at Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav, the chief minister accused them of engaging in political rhetoric rather than examining the figures.
He questioned whether their criticism reflected a lack of understanding of the data, saying their statements themselves raised questions about the basis of their arguments.
‘Faith and development’ linked in Yogi’s address
At the government programme, where he inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 201 development projects worth more than ₹684 crore, Adityanath linked development with a government’s approach towards people’s faith.
He argued that a government which respects citizens’ religious beliefs can pursue development while retaining public trust.
He also accused previous governments of corruption in areas such as scholarships, development projects and recruitment.
Adityanath said political will was essential for expanding development and cited the establishment of medical colleges in several districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh, including Amethi, Rae Bareli, Sultanpur and Ayodhya.
He further warned that his government would maintain a “zero tolerance” approach towards anyone who, he alleged, attempted to compromise the future of young people.
He said those found guilty of such wrongdoing would face stringent action, including property confiscation and, where legally applicable, life imprisonment.
Akhilesh, Rahul have targeted BJP over education
The chief minister’s remarks come after sustained criticism from the Opposition over the education and recruitment system.
Akhilesh Yadav has repeatedly accused the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh of weakening the education and examination framework and putting students’ futures at risk.
His criticism intensified following protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar over alleged examination irregularities, amid a wider political controversy that also led to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation.
Yadav has argued that education and employment have not received adequate priority under the BJP government and has accused it of implementing policies that have increased students’ uncertainty.
Rahul Gandhi, meanwhile, recently addressed a student-focused programme in Prayagraj, where he attacked the government over unemployment, examination paper leaks, the cost of education and limited employment opportunities.
Gandhi told students that obtaining educational qualifications was becoming increasingly disconnected from finding work.
He also pointed to concerns over manufacturing, access to loans and the potential impact of artificial intelligence on employment.
Yogi invokes Sant Kabir
During his Sant Kabir Nagar address, Adityanath also spoke at length about Sant Kabir and his teachings.
He described Kabir as a critic of social divisions and religious hypocrisy and said the saint challenged practices associated with both Hindu and Muslim orthodoxy.
Referring to Kabir’s association with Maghar, Adityanath said the saint rejected the belief that dying there would lead a person to hell.
He said Kabir instead emphasised that a person’s conduct and deeds, rather than a particular place of death, determine the moral value of one’s life.
The chief minister also credited Kabir with challenging caste-based discrimination and warning society against forces that seek to divide people.
Political contest over youth issues intensifies
The exchange reflects a broader political contest over the concerns of India’s younger population, with the BJP highlighting institutional expansion and skill development while the Opposition is focusing on unemployment, examination integrity and access to quality education.
For the BJP, the growth in educational institutions and government-backed skill programmes is evidence of expanded opportunity.
The Congress and Samajwadi Party, however, argue that these measures have not adequately addressed the difficulties faced by students seeking affordable education, secure examinations and jobs.
With both sides increasingly making youth issues central to their political messaging, education, recruitment and employment are likely to remain major points of confrontation between the BJP and Opposition parties.

उन्होंने कहा कि देश में शिक्षा और कौशल विकास से जुड़े संस्थानों के विस्तार के आंकड़े विपक्ष के दावों से अलग तस्वीर पेश करते हैं।
संत कबीर नगर में एक सरकारी कार्यक्रम को संबोधित करते हुए मुख्यमंत्री ने राहुल गांधी और अखिलेश यादव पर तथ्यों और आंकड़ों को नजरअंदाज कर राजनीतिक बयानबाजी करने का आरोप लगाया।
यह कार्यक्रम ऐसे समय हुआ है जब पेपर लीक, भर्ती परीक्षाओं की विश्वसनीयता, बेरोजगारी और युवाओं के भविष्य को लेकर केंद्र और राज्य सरकारों पर विपक्ष का दबाव बढ़ रहा है।
योगी ने गिनाए IIT और IIM के आंकड़े
मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा कि 2014 से पहले देश में 16 IIT थे, जबकि नरेंद्र मोदी सरकार के कार्यकाल में इनकी संख्या बढ़कर 23 हो गई है। उन्होंने इसे करीब 40 प्रतिशत की वृद्धि बताया।
इसी तरह उन्होंने IIM की संख्या 13 से बढ़कर 22 होने का दावा किया। योगी ने प्रधानमंत्री कौशल विकास योजना का भी उल्लेख करते हुए कहा कि देशभर में इसके तहत सैकड़ों कौशल विकास केंद्र संचालित किए जा रहे हैं।
राहुल गांधी और अखिलेश यादव पर निशाना साधते हुए मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा कि उन्हें राजनीतिक बयान देने के बजाय उपलब्ध आंकड़ों पर ध्यान देना चाहिए।
उन्होंने विपक्षी नेताओं के बयानों की तथ्यात्मक समझ पर भी सवाल उठाया।
‘आस्था का सम्मान करने वाली सरकार ही विकास करा सकती है’
संत कबीर नगर में आयोजित कार्यक्रम में योगी आदित्यनाथ ने आस्था और विकास के बीच संबंध पर भी जोर दिया।
उन्होंने कहा कि जो सरकार लोगों की आस्था का सम्मान करती है, वह विकास के लिए जनता का विश्वास हासिल कर सकती है।
इसके साथ ही उन्होंने पिछली सरकारों पर छात्रवृत्ति, विकास कार्यों और युवाओं की नौकरियों में कथित भ्रष्टाचार के आरोप लगाए।
मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा कि विकास के लिए राजनीतिक इच्छाशक्ति जरूरी है।
उन्होंने पूर्वी उत्तर प्रदेश में मेडिकल कॉलेजों के विस्तार का उल्लेख करते हुए अमेठी, रायबरेली, सुल्तानपुर और अयोध्या जैसे जिलों में स्थापित किए गए चिकित्सा संस्थानों का हवाला दिया।
युवाओं के भविष्य से खिलवाड़ करने वालों के खिलाफ कड़ी कार्रवाई की चेतावनी देते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि उनकी सरकार की नीति ऐसे मामलों में ‘जीरो टॉलरेंस’ की है।
उन्होंने संपत्ति की जब्ती और कानून के तहत लागू होने वाली कड़ी सजा का भी उल्लेख किया।
शिक्षा और रोजगार पर अखिलेश-राहुल का BJP पर हमला
योगी का बयान विपक्ष की ओर से लगातार हो रही आलोचना के जवाब में आया है।
अखिलेश यादव पिछले कुछ समय से उत्तर प्रदेश की शिक्षा और परीक्षा व्यवस्था को लेकर भाजपा सरकार पर हमलावर हैं।
उनका आरोप है कि सरकारी नीतियों के कारण छात्रों और युवाओं के सामने भविष्य को लेकर असुरक्षा बढ़ी है।
दिल्ली के जंतर-मंतर पर परीक्षा संबंधी अनियमितताओं को लेकर हुए विरोध-प्रदर्शनों के बाद यह मुद्दा और राजनीतिक रूप से मुखर हुआ।
इन घटनाक्रमों के बीच तत्कालीन केंद्रीय शिक्षा मंत्री धर्मेंद्र प्रधान के इस्तीफे ने भी विवाद को राजनीतिक महत्व दिया।
राहुल गांधी ने हाल में प्रयागराज में छात्रों से जुड़े एक कार्यक्रम में शिक्षा, बेरोजगारी, पेपर लीक और रोजगार के अवसरों को लेकर केंद्र सरकार पर निशाना साधा था।
उन्होंने कहा था कि महंगी शिक्षा हासिल करने और कड़ी मेहनत के बावजूद युवाओं के सामने रोजगार के अवसर सीमित हैं।
गांधी ने पेपर लीक, विनिर्माण क्षेत्र की स्थिति, ऋण हासिल करने में मुश्किलों और कृत्रिम बुद्धिमत्ता (AI) के कारण नौकरियों पर संभावित असर को भी युवाओं की चिंताओं से जोड़ा।
संत कबीर के विचारों का भी किया उल्लेख
संत कबीर नगर में मुख्यमंत्री ने संत कबीर की शिक्षाओं और सामाजिक संदेश का भी उल्लेख किया।
उन्होंने कबीर को धार्मिक आडंबर, सामाजिक विभाजन और जातिगत भेदभाव के खिलाफ आवाज उठाने वाला संत बताया।
योगी ने कहा कि कबीर ने धार्मिक कट्टरता और समाज को बांटने वाली प्रवृत्तियों की आलोचना की थी।
मगहर से जुड़े उस समय के प्रचलित विश्वास का उल्लेख करते हुए मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा कि कबीर ने इस धारणा को चुनौती दी थी कि वहां मृत्यु होने पर व्यक्ति को नरक मिलता है।
उनके अनुसार, कबीर का संदेश था कि मनुष्य के कर्म और आचरण ही उसके जीवन के नैतिक मूल्य को निर्धारित करते हैं।
युवाओं के मुद्दे पर बढ़ रही राजनीतिक टक्कर
राहुल गांधी, अखिलेश यादव और योगी आदित्यनाथ के बयानों से स्पष्ट है कि शिक्षा, परीक्षा प्रणाली और रोजगार अब राजनीतिक बहस के प्रमुख मुद्दों में शामिल हो चुके हैं।
भाजपा जहां शैक्षणिक संस्थानों के विस्तार, कौशल विकास और सरकारी योजनाओं को अपनी उपलब्धियों के रूप में पेश कर रही है, वहीं विपक्ष रोजगार की कमी, परीक्षा में अनियमितताओं और छात्रों पर बढ़ते आर्थिक दबाव को लेकर सरकार को घेर रहा है।
युवाओं से जुड़े ये मुद्दे आने वाले समय में भाजपा और विपक्ष के बीच राजनीतिक टकराव का एक अहम केंद्र बने रहने की संभावना है।
