Hyderabad Student Missing in Finland for 45 Days: Telangana High Court Directs Centre and State to Intensify Search Efforts

The Telangana High Court on Thursday directed both the Central and State governments to take urgent steps to ascertain the whereabouts of an 18-year-old engineering student from Hyderabad who has been missing in Finland for the past 45 days.

The development came after the student’s parents approached the court, alleging that their repeated efforts to secure assistance from Indian and Finnish authorities had yielded little progress.

The missing student, Gujja Manideep Reddy, had travelled to Finland in 2025 to pursue an engineering programme at the University of Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology (LUT). According to his father, G. Muthyam Reddy, the family last spoke to Manideep on May 5.

Recalling their final conversation, Muthyam Reddy said his son had stepped out to purchase snacks from a bakery and had requested some money.

His mother, Mamata, immediately transferred the amount online. However, after that brief interaction, all communication with him abruptly ceased.

“Since that day, we have not heard from him. Every attempt to contact him has been unsuccessful,” the distraught father told reporters.

Muthyam Reddy said he eventually approached the Telangana High Court after repeated representations to the Indian Embassy and the Finnish authorities allegedly failed to produce any substantial breakthrough in tracing his son.

Acting on the petition filed by the student’s parents, who reside in Vaidehi Nagar Colony in Vanasthalipuram on the outskirts of Hyderabad, Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy directed the Central government and Telangana Police to submit detailed reports outlining the measures taken so far to locate the missing student.

The court also issued notices to the Indian Embassy in Helsinki, its consular wing and other concerned authorities, seeking information on the diplomatic, administrative and investigative efforts undertaken to determine Manideep’s whereabouts.

The matter has been posted for further hearing on June 24.

Appearing on behalf of the Union Ministry of External Affairs, standing counsel N.V.R. Rajya Lakshmi informed the High Court that Finnish police had already registered a missing person’s case and that an investigation was currently underway.

She assured the court that the Ministry of External Affairs was closely monitoring the developments and maintaining regular follow-up on the matter.

According to information shared by Finnish investigators, Manideep had travelled nearly 100 kilometres away from the residence he shared with a friend before authorities lost track of his movements.

His last known location was reportedly at a K-Market store in Helsinki.

The student’s father said the family had reached out to his roommates, friends and university authorities in Finland.

Despite extensive inquiries, however, no credible information regarding his whereabouts has emerged so far.

Expressing concern over the lack of progress in the investigation, Muthyam Reddy requested that Finnish authorities examine all possible leads, including digital footprints, financial transactions, academic records, transportation data and surveillance footage that could potentially help trace his son.

He also sought regular updates on the status of the investigation.

The mysterious disappearance of the young engineering student has left his family in deep distress, with his parents continuing to hope that the coordinated efforts of Indian and Finnish authorities will soon provide answers and lead to his safe return.

तेलंगाना हाई कोर्ट ने गुरुवार को केंद्र और राज्य सरकार को निर्देश दिया कि वे हैदराबाद के 18 वर्षीय इंजीनियरिंग छात्र का पता लगाने के लिए तत्काल और प्रभावी कदम उठाएं, जो पिछले 45 दिनों से फिनलैंड में लापता है। अदालत का यह निर्देश छात्र के माता-पिता द्वारा दायर याचिका पर आया, जिसमें उन्होंने आरोप लगाया कि भारतीय और फिनलैंड की एजेंसियों से बार-बार संपर्क करने के बावजूद उनके बेटे का कोई सुराग नहीं मिल सका है।

लापता छात्र गुज्जा मनीदीप रेड्डी वर्ष 2025 में फिनलैंड के लप्पीनरांता-लाहती यूनिवर्सिटी ऑफ टेक्नोलॉजी (एलयूटी) में इंजीनियरिंग की पढ़ाई करने के लिए गया था। उसके पिता जी. मुथ्यम रेड्डी के अनुसार, परिवार की उससे आखिरी बार 5 मई को बात हुई थी।

अपने बेटे से हुई अंतिम बातचीत को याद करते हुए मुथ्यम रेड्डी ने बताया कि मनीदीप एक बेकरी से कुछ नाश्ता खरीदने के लिए बाहर गया था। उसने अपनी मां से कुछ पैसे मांगे थे, जिसके बाद उसकी मां ममता ने तुरंत ऑनलाइन पैसे भेज दिए। लेकिन इसके बाद उसका परिवार से संपर्क पूरी तरह टूट गया।

मुथ्यम रेड्डी ने कहा, “उस दिन के बाद से हमने उससे कोई बात नहीं की है। उससे संपर्क करने की हमारी हर कोशिश नाकाम रही है।”

उन्होंने बताया कि भारतीय दूतावास और फिनलैंड के अधिकारियों से लगातार संपर्क करने के बावजूद जब कोई ठोस प्रगति नहीं हुई, तब उन्होंने न्याय की गुहार लगाते हुए तेलंगाना हाई कोर्ट का दरवाजा खटखटाया।

हैदराबाद के बाहरी इलाके वनस्थलीपुरम स्थित वैदेही नगर कॉलोनी के निवासी मनीदीप के माता-पिता की याचिका पर सुनवाई करते हुए न्यायमूर्ति बी. विजयसेन रेड्डी ने केंद्र सरकार और तेलंगाना पुलिस को निर्देश दिया कि वे अब तक की गई कार्रवाई का विस्तृत ब्यौरा अदालत में पेश करें।

अदालत ने हेलसिंकी स्थित भारतीय दूतावास, उसके कांसुलर विभाग और अन्य संबंधित अधिकारियों को भी नोटिस जारी करते हुए पूछा है कि छात्र का पता लगाने के लिए अब तक कौन-कौन से राजनयिक, प्रशासनिक और अन्य प्रयास किए गए हैं। मामले की अगली सुनवाई 24 जून को निर्धारित की गई है।

केंद्रीय विदेश मंत्रालय की ओर से पेश हुई स्थायी अधिवक्ता एन.वी.आर. राज्य लक्ष्मी ने अदालत को बताया कि फिनलैंड की स्थानीय पुलिस ने गुमशुदगी का मामला दर्ज कर लिया है और मामले की जांच जारी है। उन्होंने आश्वासन दिया कि विदेश मंत्रालय इस मामले पर लगातार नजर बनाए हुए है और नियमित रूप से इसकी प्रगति की समीक्षा कर रहा है।

मुथ्यम रेड्डी ने बताया कि फिनलैंड पुलिस से मिली जानकारी के अनुसार, मनीदीप अपने मित्र के साथ साझा किए गए आवास से लगभग 100 किलोमीटर दूर चला गया था, जिसके बाद जांच एजेंसियां उसकी गतिविधियों का पता नहीं लगा सकीं। उसका अंतिम ज्ञात स्थान हेलसिंकी स्थित एक के-मार्केट स्टोर बताया गया है।

उन्होंने कहा कि परिवार ने मनीदीप के रूममेट्स, दोस्तों और विश्वविद्यालय प्रशासन से भी संपर्क किया है, लेकिन अब तक उसके बारे में कोई विश्वसनीय जानकारी सामने नहीं आई है।

अपने बेटे के लापता होने से बेहद व्यथित मुथ्यम रेड्डी ने फिनलैंड के अधिकारियों से अनुरोध किया है कि वे उसके डिजिटल रिकॉर्ड, वित्तीय लेन-देन, शैक्षणिक दस्तावेजों, यात्रा संबंधी विवरण और सीसीटीवी फुटेज समेत हर संभावित सुराग की जांच करें। उन्होंने मामले की जांच से संबंधित नियमित जानकारी भी परिवार को उपलब्ध कराने की मांग की है।

युवा इंजीनियरिंग छात्र का रहस्यमय ढंग से लापता होना उसके परिवार के लिए गहरी चिंता और पीड़ा का कारण बन गया है। उसके माता-पिता अब भी उम्मीद लगाए बैठे हैं कि भारतीय और फिनलैंड की एजेंसियों के संयुक्त प्रयास जल्द ही उनके बेटे तक पहुंचने में सफल होंगे और वह सुरक्षित घर लौट सकेगा।
