Indian Citizen Killed, Three Injured in Massive Ukrainian Drone Strike on Moscow Region

An Indian citizen lost his life while three others sustained injuries after a large-scale Ukrainian drone attack targeted Russia’s Moscow region on Sunday, according to a statement issued by the Indian Embassy in Moscow.

The incident occurred during one of the most intense drone offensives reported near the Russian capital since the Russia-Ukraine war began.

In its official statement, the Indian embassy confirmed that embassy officials immediately reached out to local authorities and visited the injured individuals at the hospital.

The mission also coordinated with the company where the Indian nationals were employed to ensure assistance and support for the victims.

The embassy expressed condolences over the death and said efforts were underway to help those affected.

Russian authorities reported that the drone strikes resulted in the deaths of four people in total.

Among the victims was a woman killed in Khimki, a town located near Moscow, while two other men died in the village of Pogorelki situated north of the capital.

Separately, another fatality was reported in Russia’s Belgorod region bordering Ukraine, where a drone allegedly struck a truck, according to local media reports.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated that several drones targeted areas close to the city’s oil refinery infrastructure. At least 12 people were reportedly injured in the attacks.

However, Sobyanin claimed that despite the strikes, the refinery’s critical technology and operations remained unaffected.

Russia’s busiest airport, Sheremetyevo International Airport, also reported drone-related debris falling within its premises.

Authorities said that despite the security concerns, flight operations continued normally and no major disruptions were recorded.

The scale of the overnight attack appeared significant, with Russia’s Defence Ministry announcing that its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 556 drones across various regions of the country.

Russian state news agency Tass reported that 81 of those drones were specifically headed toward Moscow before being shot down by defence systems.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy later addressed the strikes, describing them as a response to continued Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities and civilian communities.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine’s actions were aimed at pressuring Russia to end the war and claimed that the drone operations demonstrated Kyiv’s growing long-range strike capabilities.

“Our responses to Russia’s prolongation of the war and attacks on our cities and communities are entirely justified,” Zelenskyy said.

He further added that the Moscow region had now experienced the consequences of the conflict more directly, warning that Russia must bring the war to an end.
