Lucknow Fire Tragedy: 15 Killed in Aliganj Building Blaze, Four Arrested; CM Yogi Announces ₹5 Lakh Ex-Gratia and SIT Probe

A devastating fire that engulfed a three-storey building in Lucknow’s Aliganj area on Monday claimed the lives of 15 people and left several others injured, prompting the Uttar Pradesh government to announce compensation for the victims’ families and order a high-level investigation into the tragedy.

The fire broke out in the building located on Usha Mehta Marg in Aliganj. Following the incident, police arrested four persons in connection with the case.

The accused have been identified as Ram Krishna Upadhyay, 43, Virendra Prasad Shukla, 62, Tushok Krishna Jaiswal, 31, and Suresh Kumar Sahu.

Authorities are investigating their roles and possible lapses that may have contributed to the tragedy.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the site of the fire and announced an ex gratia of ₹5 lakh each for the families of those who lost their lives.

He also announced financial assistance of ₹50,000 each for the injured. In addition, the Chief Minister constituted a two-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to thoroughly probe the circumstances that led to the devastating fire.

According to preliminary findings, the blaze may have originated in an air-conditioning duct inside the building.

Uttar Pradesh Urban Development and Energy Minister A.K. Sharma said thick smoke quickly spread through the structure, causing suffocation among those trapped inside.

He noted that the absence of an adequate emergency exit route may have worsened the situation. Authorities will also examine whether there were violations of building safety standards and fire safety regulations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed anguish over the loss of lives and announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased.

The injured will receive ₹50,000 each from the fund. The Prime Minister conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to those undergoing treatment, assuring that all possible assistance was being extended to the victims.

As rescue operations progressed and the fire was brought under control, emergency personnel adopted unconventional methods to reach those trapped inside.

Stretchers were taken into the affected building through a neighbouring structure after rescuers created an opening in a wall to facilitate movement.

Officials initially feared that four to five people could still be trapped inside the smoke-filled premises.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath cut short his visit to Aligarh, where he had travelled to launch development projects, and immediately returned to Lucknow after learning about the tragedy.

He visited the site and reviewed the rescue operations firsthand.

The Chief Minister directed senior officials to extend all possible support to the affected families and ensure that the injured receive the best available medical treatment.

He also instructed authorities to expedite rescue and relief efforts and leave no stone unturned in assisting those impacted by the tragedy.

Speaking to reporters at the site, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said the rescue operation was nearing completion and that the government’s immediate priority was the safe evacuation of everyone trapped inside the building.

He noted that most of the people, including children, had already been rescued.

Providing details of the operation, Pathak said firefighters had gained access to the building by breaking through a wall on the second floor of an adjoining house.

Because of the dense smoke inside the premises, exhaust fans were installed to improve visibility and ventilation.

Rescue teams then carried out a meticulous room-by-room search, checking every room and even washrooms to ensure that no one remained trapped inside.

The tragedy has plunged the city into mourning and once again highlighted the importance of strict adherence to building safety norms and effective fire prevention measures.

उत्तर प्रदेश की राजधानी लखनऊ के अलीगंज क्षेत्र में सोमवार को एक तीन मंजिला इमारत में लगी भीषण आग में 15 लोगों की दर्दनाक मौत हो गई, जबकि कई अन्य घायल हो गए। इस त्रासदी के बाद राज्य सरकार ने मृतकों के परिजनों के लिए आर्थिक सहायता की घोषणा की है और पूरे मामले की उच्चस्तरीय जांच के आदेश दिए हैं।

यह आग अलीगंज स्थित उषा मेहता मार्ग पर बनी इमारत में लगी थी। घटना के बाद पुलिस ने मामले में चार लोगों को गिरफ्तार किया है। आरोपियों की पहचान 43 वर्षीय राम कृष्ण उपाध्याय, 62 वर्षीय वीरेंद्र प्रसाद शुक्ला, 31 वर्षीय तुषोक कृष्ण जायसवाल और सुरेश कुमार साहू के रूप में हुई है। पुलिस इस बात की जांच कर रही है कि घटना में उनकी क्या भूमिका थी और क्या उनकी किसी लापरवाही ने इस हादसे को जन्म दिया।

मुख्यमंत्री योगी आदित्यनाथ ने घटनास्थल का दौरा कर मृतकों के परिजनों को ₹5 लाख की आर्थिक सहायता और घायलों को ₹50,000 की सहायता राशि देने की घोषणा की। इसके साथ ही उन्होंने हादसे की विस्तृत जांच के लिए दो सदस्यीय विशेष जांच दल (SIT) का गठन भी किया।

प्रारंभिक जांच में संकेत मिले हैं कि आग की शुरुआत इमारत के एयर कंडीशनिंग (एसी) डक्ट से हुई हो सकती है। उत्तर प्रदेश के नगर विकास एवं ऊर्जा मंत्री ए.के. शर्मा ने बताया कि आग लगने के बाद इमारत में तेजी से धुआं भर गया, जिससे कई लोग दम घुटने का शिकार हो गए। उन्होंने कहा कि पर्याप्त निकास मार्ग न होने के कारण स्थिति और गंभीर हो गई। साथ ही भवन निर्माण मानकों और अग्नि सुरक्षा नियमों के संभावित उल्लंघन की भी जांच की जाएगी।

प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने इस हादसे पर गहरा दुख व्यक्त करते हुए प्रधानमंत्री राष्ट्रीय राहत कोष (PMNRF) से मृतकों के परिजनों को ₹2 लाख और घायलों को ₹50,000 की सहायता राशि देने की घोषणा की। उन्होंने शोक संतप्त परिवारों के प्रति संवेदना व्यक्त की और घायलों के शीघ्र स्वस्थ होने की कामना करते हुए आश्वासन दिया कि प्रशासन की ओर से हर संभव सहायता उपलब्ध कराई जा रही है।

आग पर काबू पाने के बाद बचाव दल ने फंसे हुए लोगों तक पहुंचने के लिए विशेष रणनीति अपनाई। बचावकर्मियों ने एक पड़ोसी इमारत की दीवार में छेद कर स्ट्रेचर को अंदर पहुंचाया, जिससे राहत एवं बचाव कार्य को गति मिली। अधिकारियों को शुरुआती आशंका थी कि चार से पांच लोग अब भी इमारत के भीतर फंसे हो सकते हैं।

मुख्यमंत्री योगी आदित्यनाथ ने घटना की जानकारी मिलते ही अलीगढ़ का अपना दौरा बीच में ही छोड़ दिया, जहां वे विकास परियोजनाओं का उद्घाटन करने गए थे। वे तत्काल लखनऊ लौटे और घटनास्थल पहुंचकर राहत एवं बचाव कार्यों का जायजा लिया।

मुख्यमंत्री ने वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों को निर्देश दिया कि प्रभावित परिवारों तक तुरंत पहुंचकर हर संभव सहायता प्रदान की जाए और घायलों को सर्वोत्तम चिकित्सा सुविधाएं उपलब्ध कराई जाएं। उन्होंने राहत एवं बचाव कार्यों में किसी भी प्रकार की कमी न रहने देने के भी निर्देश दिए।

घटनास्थल पर पत्रकारों से बातचीत करते हुए उपमुख्यमंत्री ब्रजेश पाठक ने कहा कि बचाव अभियान अंतिम चरण में है और सरकार की पहली प्राथमिकता इमारत में फंसे सभी लोगों को सुरक्षित बाहर निकालना है। उन्होंने बताया कि अधिकांश लोगों, जिनमें बच्चे भी शामिल हैं, को सुरक्षित निकाल लिया गया है।

बचाव अभियान की जानकारी देते हुए पाठक ने कहा कि अग्निशमन कर्मियों ने पड़ोसी मकान की दूसरी मंजिल की दीवार तोड़कर इमारत में प्रवेश किया। घने धुएं के कारण अंदर निकासी और दृश्यता बढ़ाने के लिए एग्जॉस्ट फैन लगाए गए। इसके बाद बचाव दल ने कमरे-दर-कमरे तलाशी अभियान चलाया और यह सुनिश्चित करने के लिए हर कमरे और शौचालय की जांच की कि कोई भी व्यक्ति अंदर फंसा न रह जाए।

इस दर्दनाक हादसे ने पूरे शहर को शोक में डुबो दिया है और एक बार फिर भवन सुरक्षा मानकों तथा प्रभावी अग्नि सुरक्षा उपायों के कड़ाई से पालन की आवश्यकता को रेखांकित किया है।
