India has strongly objected to Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s comment on the condition of the Muslim community in India.
The Ministry of External Affairs has described the remark as ” misinformed and unacceptable “.
The Iranian Supreme leader Khamenei had on Monday included India alongside Gaza and Myanmar as places where Muslims were suffering.
While lamenting the comments on minorities in India the MEA has said, that countries making such comments are advised to look at their record before making any observation about others.
Interestingly, the Iranian supreme leader’s remarks come at a time when women in that country have started defying hijab openly on the streets.
They could also be seen in videos on the U tube in which they danced without the hijab with open hair and faces.
“We cannot consider ourselves to be Muslims if we are oblivious to the suffering that a Muslim is enduring in Myanmar, Gaza, India or any other place”, Khamenei had said in a message posted on social media that was translated to Bengali.
“The concept of an ‘Islamic Ummah’ must never be forgotten”, he said, speaking for unity between the Shia and Sunni sects of Islam on the occasion of the Islamic Unity Week, when he met leaders of Iran’s Sunni Community and praised their contribution to Iranian society.
