NPPA Fixes Prices of 30 Essential Medicines, Bringing Relief to Patients with Bone, Heart and Diabetes Conditions

The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has announced retail price ceilings for 30 essential medicines, providing significant relief to patients suffering from bone disorders, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and other chronic health conditions.

The revised pricing also covers Vitamin D3 supplements, oral solutions, calcium formulations, nutritional supplements, anti-diabetic drugs, cardiac medications, and immunosuppressant medicines used after organ transplantation.

According to an official notification issued by the Department of Pharmaceuticals under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, the prices have been determined in accordance with the provisions of the Drug Price Control Order (DPCO), 2013.

The NPPA stated that several of the formulations included in the latest notification fall under the category of new drugs.

The pricing order applies specifically to the pharmaceutical manufacturers and marketing companies named in the notification.

The authority also clarified that Goods and Services Tax (GST) has not been included in the notified prices.

Bone Health Medicines Become More Affordable

Among the medicines covered under the new pricing framework is a Vitamin D3 oral solution containing Cholecalciferol 60,000 IU nano-droplets.

The retail price for this formulation has been fixed at ₹14.91 per unit. The regulator has also established prices for several formulations commonly prescribed for bone-related ailments, vitamin deficiencies, and neurological disorders.

These include combinations containing calcium, Vitamin D3, methylcobalamin, L-methyl folate calcium, and pyridoxal-5-phosphate.

Price Caps Announced for Heart and Allergy Treatments

For lipid management therapies, the combination of Atorvastatin and Fenofibrate has been assigned a retail price of ₹18.46 per tablet. Meanwhile, the anti-allergy combination of Bilastine and Montelukast has been priced at ₹21.22 per tablet.

In addition, the NPPA has fixed the price of the hypertension and cardiovascular medication combination containing Bisoprolol Fumarate and Amlodipine at ₹9.40 per tablet.

For organ transplant recipients, the price of Tacrolimus Prolonged Release 3 mg capsules, an essential immunosuppressive medication used to prevent organ rejection, has been capped at ₹127 per capsule.

The latest move is expected to improve the affordability and accessibility of critical medicines, helping patients manage long-term health conditions at a lower treatment cost.
