Rajeev Krishna Appointed Uttar Pradesh DGP: State Gets Full-Time Police Chief After Four Years

After a four-year gap, Uttar Pradesh has finally appointed a full-time Director General of Police (DGP). Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has approved the appointment of Rajeev Krishna as the state’s permanent police chief.

Krishna had been serving as the acting DGP, and his elevation to the top post was widely anticipated.

The appointment order was issued by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Sanjay Prasad, officially designating him as the head of the Uttar Pradesh Police.

The appointment follows a meeting of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in New Delhi on Tuesday, where senior IPS officers were considered for the prestigious position.

Based on seniority and eligibility, the commission shortlisted a panel of three officers and forwarded their names to the state government for the final decision.

The panel included senior IPS officer Renuka Mishra, who ranked highest in seniority, along with 1991-batch IPS officers Piyush Anand and Rajeev Krishna.

Despite the presence of other senior officers in the panel, Rajeev Krishna was widely regarded as the frontrunner for the role, making his selection largely expected.

Before this appointment, the last officer to serve as Uttar Pradesh’s full-time DGP was Mukul Goel.

With Rajeev Krishna now taking charge permanently, the state police force enters a new phase of leadership at a time when law enforcement and public security remain key priorities for the government.
