Prayagraj Court Seeks Police Report Over Alleged Objectionable Social Media Posts Targeting Akhilesh Yadav’s Daughter

By Rajesh Pandey

The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in Prayagraj has sought a report from the police regarding the circulation of allegedly offensive and objectionable social media posts targeting the daughter of Akhilesh Yadav.

The court has scheduled June 18 as the next date of hearing in the matter.

The direction was issued after a petition was filed by Yogesh Chandra Yadav, a former district president of the Samajwadi Party.

In his plea, he requested the registration of an FIR against the individuals operating the social media accounts allegedly responsible for sharing the controversial content.

He also urged authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation through the cybercrime wing of the police.

According to the petitioner, the alleged posts appear to be part of a deliberate attempt to damage the personal, social and political reputation of Akhilesh Yadav, who currently serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.

The petition further claims that such activities could potentially disrupt social harmony and create unnecessary tensions within society.

The plea specifically highlights that Akhilesh Yadav’s daughter is a student and has no connection to any matter of public concern.

It argues that the posts circulating online are personal in nature and contain allegedly obscene and objectionable content intended solely to malign her image and dignity.

The petitioner has also pointed out that several social media posts use strikingly similar language and wording.

According to him, this suggests a coordinated effort and raises suspicion of a planned campaign rather than isolated acts by individual users.

The petition further states that the case involves cyber-related offences and digital evidence, making it essential for specialised cybercrime investigators to handle the inquiry.

It contends that only trained cyber experts can effectively trace electronic records, identify the associated mobile numbers, email addresses and other digital footprints of those responsible, and bring them within the ambit of the law.

Through the petition, the applicant has urged the court to take appropriate measures to curb the growing misuse of social media platforms for character assassination and the spread of defamatory content against individuals.

To substantiate his allegations, the petitioner has submitted screenshots of the disputed posts, social media links, and other relevant digital materials before the court as supporting evidence.
