“Prayagraj Murder: Man Stabbed to Death Over Money Dispute Days After Returning from Mumbai, Five Named”
A quiet village night in Prayagraj turned into a scene of grief and shock after a 40-year-old man was brutally killed, allegedly over a financial dispute that had been simmering for days.
Raju Adivasi, a resident of Chand Khamariya village under the Kheri police station area, had returned home from Mumbai just a week earlier. Like many migrant workers, he had been working hard in the city to support his family back home.
His visit was meant to be brief — a few days with loved ones — but it ended in tragedy.
According to police and family members, Raju had an ongoing dispute with his relative, Krishnakant Adivasi, over money. The disagreement had reportedly intensified in recent days, with allegations of pressure and threats.
On Monday night, Raju was returning from a wedding procession in a nearby village along with two acquaintances. It was close to midnight when, near the SBI branch at Khunta, he was allegedly stopped by Krishnakant and several others.
What followed was swift and violent.
Raju was attacked with knives, sustaining multiple injuries, before the assailants fled the scene. Locals rushed him to the Community Health Centre in Meja, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
For his family, the loss is devastating.
His father, Parsnath Adivasi, has filed a complaint naming five accused in the case. He alleges that his son had already repaid ₹7,000, but was being pressured for an additional ₹2.15 lakh.
According to him, threats had been made earlier, but no one imagined the dispute would escalate to such brutality.
There are also claims that Raju had returned from Mumbai at the insistence of the accused — a detail that has added to the family’s anguish.
Back at home, the atmosphere is one of unbearable grief. His wife, Sukhshanti Devi, and children — Madhu, Rahul, and Rishi — are struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss.
Neighbours describe a household filled with cries, where just days ago there had been hope and normalcy.
Police have registered a case against the named accused and have taken them into custody for questioning.
Krishna Mohan Singh confirmed that further legal action will follow based on the investigation.
Meanwhile, tension continues to linger in the village, as authorities keep a close watch to prevent any escalation.
Beyond the facts of the case, the incident leaves behind a deeper reflection on how unresolved disputes, when mixed with anger and pressure, can spiral into irreversible loss.
For one family, a journey that began with hope has ended in heartbreak, leaving behind questions that no investigation can fully answer.
