SHUATS teachers Begin Fast Unto Death Over Non Payment Of Salaries
Angered by the continued delay in the release of their pending salaries, teachers at SHUATS began an indefinite hunger strike on Monday outside the Vice Chancellor’s office on the university campus.
The protesting faculty members alleged that the university administration has repeatedly assured them of payment, but no concrete action has been taken so far. As a result, many teachers say they are facing severe financial hardship.
The salary dispute has been ongoing for weeks. Since April 16, teachers and employees associated with the SHUATS Society have been staging protests and demonstrations demanding clearance of their dues.
Frustrated over the lack of progress, they had earlier approached the District Magistrate and sought administrative intervention in the matter.
Following the complaint, the District Magistrate directed that a committee be formed under the chairmanship of the Chief Development Officer (CDO) to investigate the issue and submit a report.
However, with no resolution yet in sight, the agitating teachers intensified their protest by launching a sit-in hunger strike at the university premises.
The protesting faculty members said they would continue their indefinite fast until their pending salaries are paid.
They have also formally informed the District Magistrate, Chief Development Officer, and City Magistrate about their ongoing protest and the circumstances leading to it.
