George Town Residents Furious After Hours-Long Power Cut Amid Scorching Heat in Prayagraj

A sudden power outage in Prayagraj’s George Town area on Monday night left residents battling intense heat and humidity, triggering widespread frustration among locals.

Electricity supply went off around 8 pm in the stretch between Van Vibhag Chauraha and George Town Police Station crossing, plunging the entire locality into darkness for hours.

As the disruption continued late into the night, residents said the situation became unbearable, especially in the middle of the ongoing summer heatwave.

With fans, coolers, and air conditioners rendered useless, many families stepped out onto the streets in search of relief from the suffocating weather conditions.

Locals alleged that repeated complaints to the electricity department failed to produce any response or action.

Many residents accused officials of ignoring consumer grievances despite regular power disruptions in the area.

Vandana Srivastava, a resident of the locality, said the outage began around 8 pm and made it impossible to stay indoors.

She said people, including children and elderly family members, were forced to spend time outside because of the extreme heat and humidity.

Vandana also shared that her daughter fell ill during the prolonged blackout and expressed disappointment that repeated complaints brought no solution.

K K Singh, a retired ITI officer, said the entire neighbourhood suffered through the night without electricity. He urged authorities to take the matter seriously and restore an uninterrupted power supply at the earliest.

According to him, residents are increasingly unhappy with the functioning of the electricity department and the indifferent attitude of officials.

Another consumer alleged that it has become nearly impossible to even speak with the area’s Junior Engineer (JE).

He said electricity is a basic necessity, yet consumers who regularly pay hefty bills are treated poorly whenever they report faults or seek help.

Residents claimed that while the government repeatedly talks about ensuring an uninterrupted electricity supply, ground-level officials have failed to implement those directives effectively.

Several residents warned that if the situation does not improve soon, people may be forced to launch protests on the streets.

Some consumers blamed the recurring outages on the use of poor-quality equipment in power lines, saying technical faults have become a routine problem in the area.

A visibly upset homemaker said she had to throw away food items stored in her refrigerator because of the extended power failure.

She added that summer afternoons have already become difficult to endure, and nights without electricity are making daily life even more agonizing for families across the locality.
