Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India, has passed away at 92, as confirmed by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. Following the Congress leader’s demise, the government has announced the cancellation of all scheduled events tomorrow and declared seven days of national mourning.

The Union Cabinet will meet tomorrow, 27 December, at 11 a.m. to discuss further arrangements. Dr. Singh’s last rites will be conducted with full state honors.

Singh served as Prime Minister for two consecutive terms from 2004 to 2014, leading the Congress-led UPA government. He was India’s finance minister from 1991 to 1996 under Prime Minister Narasimha Rao.

Despite his prominent political career, Singh never contested Lok Sabha elections. Instead, the Congress party first nominated him to the Rajya Sabha in October 1991, shortly after becoming Finance Minister. Representing Assam for five terms in the Rajya Sabha, he shifted to Rajasthan in 2019, with his final term concluding in April this year.
