Lucknow University Assistant Professor Arrested Over Alleged Obscene Chats and Exam Paper Leak Promise
A Lucknow University assistant professor has been arrested after serious allegations emerged that he engaged in inappropriate conversations with a female student and allegedly offered to leak examination question papers in return for personal favours, police officials said.
The accused, identified as 35-year-old Paramjeet Singh, hails from Bijnor district and has been serving as an assistant professor at Lucknow University since 2022.
The controversy surfaced after purported audio and video clips of conversations between the teacher and the student began circulating widely on social media, triggering outrage and demands for strict action.
In one of the alleged audio recordings, the accused can reportedly be heard urging the student to meet him, saying he had already arranged two examination papers for her and asking her not to “ditch” him.
Another purported clip allegedly shows him addressing the student intimately and claiming that he had already “outed” two question papers ahead of the examinations.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Lucknow, Jitendra Kumar Dubey, confirmed the arrest of the assistant professor and said further investigation is underway.
According to officials, the university administration initiated a preliminary internal inquiry after the recordings came to light and later submitted a formal complaint at the Hasanganj police station.
Police said the written complaint was filed on Friday by the Controller of Examinations of Lucknow University.
The complaint stated that three audio recordings allegedly containing objectionable conversations between the professor and a female student had been received by the university authorities.
The university further alleged that the accused attempted to lure the student with promises of unfair academic advantage in exchange for inappropriate favours.
The complaint also accused him of referring to leaking two ongoing university examination papers, which authorities described as a grave violation of examination confidentiality and academic integrity.
Officials said the complaint highlighted that the alleged acts not only compromised the dignity and safety of the student but also amounted to serious criminal misconduct.
A pen drive containing the audio recordings was submitted to the police as evidence.
Following the complaint, police registered a case against the accused under Section 74 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), related to assault or use of criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty.
Charges were also filed under Sections 11 and 13(5) of the Uttar Pradesh Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act.
Meanwhile, the university administration has constituted a separate inquiry committee to conduct a detailed investigation into the allegations and examine all aspects of the matter.
The Lucknow unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) strongly condemned the alleged conduct of the professor, describing the conversations as obscene, degrading, and deeply disturbing.
In an official statement, ABVP Lucknow University Unit President Jai Srivastava said that such actions damage the sanctity of the teacher-student relationship and bring disrepute to a prestigious educational institution.
Hasanganj police station SHO Chitran Kumar said police are also in the process of recording the statement of the student as part of the ongoing investigation.
