Prayagraj Beli Hospital Death Sparks Row: Patient’s Brother Alleges Assault by Ward Boy, Five-Member Probe Ordered
A patient’s death at Beli Hospital in Prayagraj has triggered controversy after his family alleged that he was assaulted by a ward attendant during treatment. Acting on the complaint, the hospital administration has constituted a five-member inquiry committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The committee has been directed to submit its findings within four days, after which further action will be taken.
According to family members, the deceased, Manoj Kumar, 42, had been admitted to Beli Hospital after suffering from a stomach problem.
They claimed that while he was undergoing treatment, a dispute broke out with a ward boy, who allegedly assaulted him.
The family has accused the hospital of negligence and has also lodged a complaint with the police, demanding a fair investigation into the matter.
Hospital authorities have, however, denied the allegation that the patient died because of any assault.
Officials stated that Manoj Kumar was already in a critical condition when he was admitted following the ailment.
They maintained that the exact cause of death would become clear only after the inquiry committee submits its report and all medical records are examined.
The deceased has been identified as 42-year-old Manoj Kumar, a resident of Malakraj in Prayagraj.
His elder brother, Kaju, alleged that when he went to visit Manoj in the ward on Sunday night, he found a ward attendant arguing with him.
According to Kaju, he tried to calm the situation and asked the ward boy to step aside so the patient could receive proper treatment.
He alleged that the employee became aggressive, abused him, and then physically assaulted Manoj in front of family members.
The incident allegedly created panic inside the ward, leaving relatives and other attendants shocked.
The family further claimed that the injured patient was later shifted out of the ward, and on Monday morning, they were informed that Manoj had died.
They alleged that they found his body near the hospital gate and accused the hospital management of attempting to conceal the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The relatives have demanded strict legal action against those responsible.
Responding to the allegations, Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. Bhavna Sharma said the hospital administration had taken the matter seriously and immediately ordered a five-member investigation committee.
He said the panel would independently examine all aspects of the case, including statements from staff members, CCTV footage and medical records, before submitting its report within four days.
Dr. Sharma added that if the inquiry establishes any negligence or misconduct on the part of hospital staff, appropriate disciplinary and legal action will be initiated without delay.
She also said the hospital would fully cooperate with the police investigation.
Police officials confirmed that they have received a complaint from the deceased’s family.
They said further action will be taken after examining the inquiry report, post-mortem findings, and other available evidence. Investigators have assured the family that the case will be handled impartially.
